  1. Wayne Pallet doing the robot
  2. Interesting one - according to Uncle Rae who had a friend who worked at Stateside in the 60s - the MINIMUM run of every red and white demo was 500! Dx
  3. A much under-rated 'floater'. Dx
  4. Think you'll find I sold you 'All Kinds of Everything' as an unknown Dana Valery track. By the way, anyone remember when Roger Banks played Andy Stewart at Shotts? Dx
  5. Never seen him referred to as BILL 'Smokey' Robinson before (reminds me of a certain Carlisle Motown collector 'expertly' referring to PATRICIA Holloway on Richard's show - he obviously knew her better than her sister who mistakenly told us she was christened Patrice). Given the profit driven nature of all supermarkets perhaps First I Look At The Purse would've been better. Dx
  6. People seem to be thinking I think they're Northern!... I was pointing out the joke of it, but you could see them trying to cash in given the sound of something like Debbie Fleming and The Street People - You're My One Weakness. Dx
  7. Does anyone else remember The Dooleys being launched on Nationwide (I guess about 1976) as the UK's first 'home grown' Northern Soul group? There was footage of them dancing on what I think was an empty Wigan floor - wasn't long after Nationwide did a feature on the Casino. Funnily enough if you think about Love of My Life and the cheesier end some of the pop-disco sounds around in that period... Long Gone etc. Dx
  8. There were LOTS of Stronger than Me's about like that. Dx
  9. At least they're not taking drugs and wetting themselves As I said on the other thread - as far as I'm concerned the widespread licensing and late night licensing of venues is the worst thing to happen to it in recent years IMO. Dx
  10. Their version of Just Walk In My Shoes is simply fabulous... Though the version on YuoTube isn't the right one. Dx
  11. That'll be the effect of the speed then - according to Gene Robertson. Dx
  12. Has he got a slot in the top of his head to put money in? Of course this is just a copy - the original issues had B-A-R-N-A-D-O-E-S in the run out groove round the base. Dx
  13. That other bit of tosh you turned up Carla Thomas vies with it probably. Dx
  14. Had my newly purchased mint George Smith crack from heat shock taking it out for 'safe keeping' to the Crewe minibus in about -5C from Shotts in full steam. Les Cokell stood on my Luther Ingram at his flat when he was ill - cracked right across one side, but still plays cleanly. Dx
  15. Memberships can be of use as a vehicle for keeping out pissheads/trouble - ie 'sorry strict policy you can't come in without one' to anyone you don't like the look of. Be a little wary of getting too 'something for everyone' as you'll end up inundated with people wanting to hear Babylove etc if you're not careful which will tend to drive away those with a more serious passion for the music. Where in SW Scotland - we're in Carlisle. Keep the venue small (at least initially) as a packed small venue is much, much better than a half empty medium-large venue and of course the overheads are less precarious, attached parking is also very useful as people get nervous leaving their cars late in the evening somewhere they don't know. Best of luck. Dx
  16. Still have a massive soft spot for Your Hit Me Like TNT. Dx
  17. The Ike & Tina album produced by Phil Spector (River Deep??- can't remember) and Two for the Price of One - see avatar... Dx
  18. Save yourselves, save yourselves - it'll put you off Northern for life! The best bit is when the girl overdoses on one black and white - a pill that is SO ridiculously huge I reckon she actually choked on it. I'm afraid a lot of it makes us look ridiculous - specially the Saturday Night Fever meets Jackie Chan 'dance off' with the evil drug dealer (who even has a Dick Dastardly moustache - though I can talk on that one!). Dx
  19. Carl from Hull had that light blue vespa by 83, always loved Lil' Deuce Scoot - remember it was on the cover of one of the original Scootermanias - Hull was still full of some superb AFs when I was there at college 83-86 - Ace of Clubs and Masterblaster being my favourites (back then I always went to nighters on a scooter - unfortunately being skint so I could only afford one a month it was almost always just Peterborough along with Martin Midgley from Bradford and Striker) - I was in the Drifters for a short while before it finally broke up and went down to the mini rallies in the Castle Car Park in York - but was always, and always will be an Oxford Roadrunner at heart. Dx
  20. There's Ian's video of him on youtube - but he also turned up at King's Hall, Blackburn - nice bloke - fabulous record of course.
  21. Surely it's GOTTA be the Dixie Cups - Chapel of Love. For me though - Gladys doing He's My Kinda Fella, the Originals Baby I'm For Real or Bobby Taylor Does your mamma know about me - all intensely personal. Dx
  22. Probably missing the boat here, but apparently Sky Saxon (nutty lead singer of the Seeds - Pushin Too Hard etc) toured the Southern States doing the white RnB thing calling himself 'Little Richie' in the mid 60s (according to the California Dreaming book - which I sadly got knicked/willfully unreturned) - no definitive link of course. Dusty Springfield - Live It Up - now THERE'S a great underplayed white track! From what I remember of seeing pictures of them the Velours were hispanic rather than white - didn't they tour Britain as the Fantastics? Doesn't get any better than Stronger Than Me - always had a major soft spot for Evie Sands too. Dx PS Bricks Broken Bottle and Sticks - total load of crap - there were SIX white demos at £1.50 each in a record shop round the corner from Sid Scarborough's in in Hull in the mid 80s (I guess about 85 - I left Hull Art College in 86) - anyway we all knew they were there and thought it SUCH garbage that they couldn't sell any of them - however wish I knew then what I know now about records coz the numerous second hand record shops in Hull (about 10) were stuffed with some great US 70s soul - plus of course Paul Madden in the covered market still had a lot of his really good stuff.
  23. Selling a proper pair of Bass Weejuns on ebay size 7 - hardly worn - too narrow for me. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190690600510?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649#ht_189wt_49 Dave
  24. Ashford and Simpson - It Seems To Hang On - doesn't get more 'bedroom' than that and it's a fabulous record. Dx
