  1. Did a nice circular walk round Grasmere and Rydal water today - only about 7 or 8 miles. Dx
  2. Sunrise this morning from the battlements. Merry Christmas everyone. Dx
  3. Seathwaite at the head of Borrowdale today - officially rainiest place in Britain (at 3.5 metres annually more than most rain forests) I got soaked to the skin! Dx
  4. Indeed you will once we're allowed - been very thin on the ground for a few years due to Pete's failing health meaning we couldn't go. Hope you and your's are doing great AS. Dx
  5. I'm sure I'll look dumb and everyone will know this site but, having started collecting frantically again to keep me out of mischief since Pete passed away I've been tending to want the original sleeves, where available, to go with my new toys - at least for my favourite purchases. Lots on eBay of course, but I came across this site which is really excellent for checking what is the exactly correct sleeve for a given label in a given period. There is a spectacular number of labels on here - not just US, but UK, European and Australian: https://45-sleeves.co.uk/index.html
  6. I'll take the Dorothy Morrison - I Can't Go Without You. Dx
  7. Poppy as hell, but I still have a soft spot for it - was the first 'Northern' record (on Axe reissue in 82) I ever bought (at least apart from Motown) and one of the few earliest buys (along with Barnaby Bye and Alfie Khan) that I still have. Dx
  8. There were others - he reckoned there were about half a dozen different names but he just couldn't remember what they were. Dx
  9. Funny I wrote my dissertation on Mod, Skinhead and Northern Soul culture and was thought daft to do it (and suffered from the extreme lack of published material about back in 85/6 - about the only relevant book at the time was George Melly's tedious 'Revolt Into Style') - strange how youth culture is suddenly a legitimate target for academic study. Dx
  10. Yes I know Dave and Denise - I've defo seen plain yellow labelled copies. I have the album - bought because of its historical significance. Dx
  11. The weather was gorgeous this morning so I went down to St Bees for a wander about. Dx
  12. No there are FOUR issues and one demo (I just screen shotted that group to show the 'Unavailable in the UK').
  13. Was just browsing Discogs and found a daft new one on me - British sellers that won't ship to the UK! On a side note given how expensive it is there's an awful lot of HMV copies (7) of Evil One on there. Dx
  14. Zan (Jonathon Sneddon) was the manager at Ralph's when Pete & Richard worked there as Saturday boys for a while (they actually met outside Ralph's the week after the Wheel closed). Jon and Pete were great friends and he often came out to Wheel revivals, other nighters and even a weekender with us. The B&S article referencing him is DG's 1970 review of the Wheel. Dx PS Ralph was Ralph Mendleson - obviously, being nought but a young pup of 56, a long while before my time, but I actually met him once at Droylesdon in about 1989 when he popped in briefly to see Brian Rae and he introduced me to him. PPS Was the plain yellow label 'reissue' of the Dynatones' album track not down to a certain Mr 45?
  15. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rare-Original-USA-Brunswick-Record-Sleeve-45rpm-7inch-Mid-Sixties-Vintage/402502219577?hash=item5db7007739:g:8J4AAOSwyfpfjax1
  16. The Four Tracks looks pretty cheap - mind you I bought it Arthur Fenn for £20 in the 80s - gave it to Kath Jenkins from Gloucester as a birthday present. Dx
  17. We have friends down there (Saundersfoot) - we went to stay and I was bowled over by what a fantastic place it is (and all the slow worms) - I can't understand why anyone would mess around taking kids abroad with such a brilliant place as this on the doorstep. Dx
  18. Wasn't there a song about 'The Dayer we went to in Bangor' - all for under a pound?
  19. It IS the Chiffons backing track - possibly one of those bad stereo jobs where you could lose the vocal by making it mono - used to have an EMI of it. Dx
  20. Went for a walk on the mosses this lunchtime - a bloody chilly wind blowing off the Solway. Dx
  21. Eden Otters get very tame - I was once thigh deep in a pool fishing and a young Otter popped up between me and the bank (which was less than 10 feet away) and spent a minute or so propped up on its back paws watching me. There are certain pools on the lower Eden (even right in the centre of Carlisle) where you can almost guarantee to see one at certain times of the year. Dx
  22. Done by Kev Roberts - legally as far as I know - I did the labels for it. Dx
  23. I went hunting for Otters this evening - pics below - lots of tracks but didn't see any - haven't seen one on our local river (the splendidly named Wampool close to our home) for about a year - and as I'm not fishing at the mo I haven't seen one on the Eden since spring. The billiard table field is 'Solway Salt Washed Turf' - as seen on a cricket pitch near you. Dx
