The lyrics to wade in the water are about being a runaway slave.

Sounds very reminiscent to Paramount Four 'You Don't Know Til It Happens To You' on Southern Sounds.

Sure Dave said 180 (weird number I know) - anyway he gave us one when he came to stay once.

There's an engraved stone marking the entrance.

In the 80s the Modern Allnighters at the Polish Club were great.

The bad silhouette on the dancer doing a swallow dive, plus all the others of the same ilk.

More versions of this than you can shake a stick at.

I realise that this thread is primarilly about her 'soulfullness' rather than merely the big sounds, but anyway... I got pig sick of the two well known jobbies - Just Can't Live and My Heart - flogged a white demo of IJK for £20 and gave MHNB away - I like I'm so glad i found you - though she does lay it on a bit thick - but Your Love Hit Me Like TNT - now I adore that, such a headbanger stomper and what a set of pipes on her, wasn't she supposed to have been about 16 when she did it?

Good Night Irene - well known Wheel sound by the Originals was being performed in 1908, according to Wikapedia an early version was around in 1886.

Asked the boys when we were looking after them for Richard's do - it ISN'T speeded up and was CP Spencer.
By the way as an aside they also sang backing on All I Do by Tammi.

It ain't easy to track down - the 12" cost me£40 as I remember (beautifully designed package by the way)

Does this mean that John Harris and the Soul Sayers is a made to measure?

Always used lighter fluid - back in the day when we still did graphic design on drawing boards it was the universal degreaser and glue remover (also good for doing tricks when doing magic marker visuals).
Never had any problem with lighter fluid on vinyl - EXCEPT on emidiscs. Do also be aware that lighter fluid won't work for removing water marks etc - only spirit based glues and grease/fingers marks.

This one really does 'it' for me - if you don't know it you need to let it get going - the sample is Ultra High Frequency 'We're on the right track'.

PS Forgot - it's Deep Sensation with Somehow Somewhere (I know there's a soul heaven)

Stop playing it and play The Four Seasons instead - Far superior Vocals etc etc etc ......
Was about to say exactly the same thing.

Paid about £2 for mine - don't know what it is now. Brilliant record.
In fact I just looked up on Discogs - eight for sale from £2.49
Lou Courtney - What do you want me to do - Rags

Funnily enough I was dreaming about dancing to What Kind of Lady last night - for a change my feet didn't get tied in knots like they usually do in my nighter dreams.

Strenuously avoid trying to do a spot just made up of current popular sounds - the last thing the scene needs is ANOTHER 'me too' DJ - aim to play stuff that:
A] is DANCEABLE
B] marks you out as different and original (also usually means you have to spend less)
C] offer variation and texture in the spot (smooth transitions between slower stuff and fast peaks, dotted with male/female/instrumentals/older/newer etc etc)
D] Think about what you are playing - decide a musical start point and where you want to finish (I always used to pre-select my key records through a spot - though adjusted it in reaction to the crowd as I went along - and then fill in the gaps like stepping stones, slotting in requests WHEN they fit in musically within the wider spot, rather than immediately playing them - also goes down well because they think you forgot them and then get a pleasant surprise)
E] 'read' the dancefloor - don't go for lowest common denominator records simply to fill it, but recognise what's going down well, this also helps if you clear it (don't panic and just play an automatic floorppacker in reaction - they'll smell blood!)
F] Learn to appear convincingly deaf when someone want you to play Diana Ross
I always looked upon DJing as musical evangelism - 'if you liked that one you already know - you'll love this one you don't know'.

Can anyone remember that God awful cafe in Carnaby St we all used to go to afterwards? Sold the worst sausage in a bap I've ever had - stone cold and sliced up to look posh
Ion always used to take great delight in having and runny egg sandwich there much afterwards to everyone's disgust.

PS I used to wear KF slippers - they were great when you could still get the cotton only soles, nice and slippery - but then all you could get was the rubberised ones which were useless.

Sure it says inside - I designed the package anyway and it's Cody Black on the right, think the other one's Shirley Wahls.

Seem to remember Ted Taylor 'Somebody's Always Trying' originally being covered up as Cookie Jackson.

Notice mention of Mark Lamarr on the other thread - he used to come to all the Swindon football club soul nights that Scouse ran in the mid 80s, he shared a house with Muff, she was a nighter regular at the time.

In the late 50's, Pye invented a record player which not only played records but also recorded on blank discs!
Looks like you just changed the headshell and recorded into it using a microphone and you could record onto blank 'magnetic' discs.
Whether you could play these on other players, I don't know.
Has anyone ever seen one of these in action or even heard of them?
Amazing, I never knew these existed.
If you shout at a discotron loud enough I'm sure that'll cut the sound of your voice onto your rarest vinyl.

Great job - would be nice to hear more 'meat' and oomph in the bass beat perhaps - this is certainly what we go for over here and something that is lacking in most modern Northern Soul soundalikes. Best of luck.
