  1. Eleanor Rigby on the other side - lovely : ) - I had it for probably 25 years before I flogged it earlier this year, certainly pretty well known amongst Northern instrumental collectors (me as was). Dx
  2. Used to collect the awful Soul Galore instrumentals as a joke. Dx
  3. What utter shite - things like this make me glad I'm a mere pup of 50 and missed out on the mindless pop drivel of the mid-late 70s. As an aside, a source of great piss taking of my little brother who is a 'super fan' of the Stranglers (he's seen them over 400 times and manages their website etc etc) is the fact that the only other group Coursegood Music manage are the Worzels - he doesn't take kindly to suggestions they should do a double header tour together. Dx
  4. One Man and His Dog... I'll say no more than DJ, wife, sheep and dance floor. Dx
  5. As it happens we saw them perform that live for the first time at a Coca Cola/Eddie Stobart junket a few years ago - despite being very drunk we immediately turned to each other and went 'LANDSLIDE' - it was also much more apparent in the backing in the live delivery. They CAN actually sing REALLY well. Dx
  6. Brilliant records - proper stuff. Dx
  7. Remember a little second hand record shop round the corner from Sid Scarborough's in Hull opened up briefly early in 86 - they had six mint white demos of 'Bricks, Broken Bottles and Sticks' at £1.50 each - I detested it, so despite it already being popular and rapidly rising in value, I chose not to buy any (even to sell - didn't want to encourage people's interest in this drivel). Dx
  8. I was told that Rob Smith ran the record department in Woolworth's in Nottingham at one point - don't know if it's true. Dx
  9. An awful lot of these WERE played - Los Bravos at Peterborough Fleet early 80s, Len Barry certainly at The Scene and therefore almost certainly at the Wheel (a guy on here posted his memories a while back and made a point of saying his tracks were massive), Holland & Dozier - Pete told me the instrumental was played (I'm presuming the Mecca or Ritz - anyway he bought it back then and we still have it), Fontella Bass and Spencer Davis both played the Wheel frequently so would have been played (if only live), Lou Christie (Wheel mid 60s according to the Abardie's website and by Dave Evison in Ms), heard all the Detroit Emeralds tracks played at some time myself (specially their version of Do Me Right at the Unicorn), Backfield in Motion - Wheel. Believe Mr Bloe was played in Ms - certainly Electric Indian's version, bought it because I'd heard it and was collecting instrumentals at the time. As for the Showstoppers well... It was SO big over here when first released that it got reissued in the states being promoted as the big Mod sound in the UK, following a brief flush of fashionable interest in mods in New York after an article about them in US Vogue (65 from memory). Dx
  10. Gene Diamond on Mothers Records - owned by Frank Zappa I believe (?). Got a copy somewhere in the boxes upstairs. Dx
  11. Tarpon (A Love Reputation - Denise LeSalle) has got to rank high - a Tarpon is a very famous big game angling fish which is actually a giant (up to 300lb) herring. Sassy Kitten is great looking and weird. Dx
  12. Found a mint issue of the Valentines at Merton Abbey Mills market - it was the only US record on the stall. Dx
  13. What about the rules of honesty and honour - it's these sort of blood sucking scumbag tossers who poison the scene as a whole - whatever happened to welcoming and supporting newbies to Northern? Dx
  14. Just listened to it on youtube - it's the instrumental of Karate Boogalloo by Jerryo. Dx
  15. Sounds like they're taking the piss to me. Dx
  16. Remember back when I was at art college and Paul Madden had a stall in the covered market in Hull that he had dreadful problems with the taxman trying to differentiate between personal collection sales and 'record dealing'. Dx
  17. I really cried first time I heard her version of 'All I Do'. Lots of Margie Joseph things and Bobby Taylor's 'Does Your Mamma Know About Me?' - fits my life situation the way it fits interracial love. Dx
  18. 'I'll Never Need More Than This' and 'Lord If You're A Woman' are two that have been big spins in their time that I just love. Dx
  19. I see Wayne Pallett in the background which means I'll be in there somewhere - it's where I met Pete (Brian Rae sent him my way to get sorted). Used to be a great warmup - some really good stuff being played. Looks like the back of Richard Franklin or possibly Steve Smith on the left. Dx
  20. Mary Love was booted on an emerald green Modern with the instrumental on the reverse. Dx
  21. BTW this was first played by Les Cokell at the Mecca in 1974. Dx
