  1. I appreciate your comments Chalkie but nowhere in my post did I describe them as you say.
  2. Compare Jackie Wilson a legend of the scene "It only happens",which is currently being auctioned . I would say that is as much of a pop record as Billy Ocean .written by two highly regarded British writers of pop music but is very highly rated on the scene. There is no right or wrong it's all a matter of opinion. Just enjoy what you like and dont worry what other people think.
  3. If it had just been discovered on a rare Detroit label with half a dozen copies............it would be on a famous auction site fetching thousands
  4. Could be by Orlando came out here on nems iirc.
  5. You could find someone to have that opinion about every record ever made. I like it!
  6. The platinum pageant. Frank Wilson and Gloria Jones being danced to down the Mall.....most unexpected
  7. Reperata and the Delrons expensive Ray Pollard reasonable
  8. Some do go for more than they are probably worth, but there are the odd bargains.Someone got a good deal with the Manchester Playboys which is as rare as Kiki Dee but a quarter of the price.
  9. I also paid in October last year and then forgot all about it. Record arrived yesterday.. Hopefully yours is also on it's way.
  10. Did anyone find out what happened to the Nolan Porter Probe Demo?
  11. Someone I've always admired lots of fantastic song lyrics. My favourite of his Persians "I just cant take it anymore" GWP. Superb lyrics and so soulful.rip
  12. It was over £550 last time I looked . Went back 1 minute later............Gone!
  13. Would like a copy of the above ex or better with clean labels.
  14. Just received the above tome. After helping the delivery driver recover from the exertion of carrying it to the door(it weighs a ton) I am now beginning to make my way through it. It is a fantastic piece of work. I just hope I'm about long enough to get to the end of it.There are over 700 pages crammed with information and photos. It is a must have for any soul enthusiast with an interest in British soul. A well done to John and all the contributors.
  15. I have to agree with you.The wife and I saw her at the London Victoria Apollo in the early eighties when she was at her most soulful. I've seen quite a few live soul acts most have been excellent but Millie's the best
  16. One of the most covered/recorded songs ever.."STAG-O-LEE". I'd go for Lloyd Price or Pacific Gas &Electric
  17. Of the three UK issues imo 2 were reasonable/bargains.The third a bit over priced.
  18. That's a strange way for a record company to operate. How would they expect the product to be heard in th first place. It's not surprising they didn't have many soul hit singles
  19. I would have thought Polydor and other record labels would have pressed the same number of demo copies of every record they released and then forwarded them on to the same people/ radio stations every time. Therefore the only reason Jamo Thomas, Edwin Starr etc are "rare" is because they are tucked away in collections never to be seen rather than the number available.
  20. Sweet Thing by the Spinners tmg514 demo £1215 on manships auction tonight and not in the best condition.Dont see many though.
