  1. How good were they! Their version of Ike and Tina Turners "a Love Like Yours is superb. Were they the most soul/R&b influenced of the 60s british groups? Or maybe 2nd to Georgie Fame
  2. Hi Mal That would be Lester Tipton This wont change/ Masqueraders How
  3. I saw it Saturday, and found it well acted and following closely to books ive read about his life. The play seemed to concentrate on his strange relationship with his mother and his violent relationship with his father which ultimately led to his untimely demise. The one mistake was tammi Terrell singing "You are everything" and "Stop Look Listen to your Heart" which were recorded years after her death with Diana Ross. All in all I enjoyed the show. Although there were a few empty seats
  4. Ive got tickets for the Derngate on Saturday. ill let you know what I think.
  5. Tams "Hey girl don't bother me" must have been one of the first, July 71 and that would have been down to demand due to the Northern scene
  6. Yes another £10 record.
  7. For a short period of time they were as good if not better than any of the 70s groups. Must have been about 72 and id just started buying Blues and Soul (which wasn't easy to find where I lived . you had to order it from your local newsagent) and John Abbey was raving on about "Just as long as you need me" which had just been released on wand ( same problem as blues and soul having to order from local record shop no chance of getting it off the shelf). It was well worth the effort being so different to what else was around pop or soul at the time
  8. do you think it will get a mention in Record collector magazine, the bit where they show the months top e bay sales?

  20. Was that "Come spy with me" there was also a marvalettes "b side demo that played My baby must be a magician but is titled" Here I am baby"
  21. .Love the major too. Many many great sides, I particularly liked his volt output but my favourite was the contempo remake of" Dark and lonely"which is odd for me because 9 times out of 10 I prefer the original. I must add that his album that came out on soul was in my opinion very poor. Id be interested if anyone knows how this came out on Soul? as no one on motown seems to have been involved.
  22. "Gotta find a way" Cheesey but great intro. then a soul classic
