JIMMY DELPHS 'The flip side' b/w 'BAND TRACK 'Don't tell me maybe' (Backing track to Capitols Don't say maybe baby) - Hayley Records HR 023 Hayley Records is proud to announce the release of yet another previously unreleased slice of Detroit soul in the form of the immaculate Jimmy Delphs 'The flip side' b/w Band track 'Don't tell me maybe'. The flip side' is the third unreleased track by Jimmy Delphs to be made available by Hayley Records, following the sublime 'Where there is love' and 'Our last goodbye'. All three were recorded at United Sound Systems in Detroit under the supervision of producer Ollie McLaughlin and arranger Andrew 'Mike' Terry and were scheduled to be released on McLaughlin's Karen label. 'The flip side' only came to light on an Atlantic acetate that was discovered in the Lo and Behold record store in Hamtramck, a suburb of Detroit, several years ago. JIMMY DELPHS 'The flip side' All three songs featured members the legendary Funk Brothers band, including drummer George McGregor, bassist Bob Babbitt, guitarists Don Davis, Eddie Willis, Dennis Coffey, keyboardist Johnny Griffith and vibes supremo Jack Brokensha along with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. As usual with Hayley Records' releases, the second side is also a blockbuster that will not disappoint. Released under it's original title 'Don't tell me maybe', complete with sound engineer's lead in call, this stomping instrumental is actually the extended backing track of The Capitols' 'Don't say maybe baby' replete with two...count them...two storming tenor sax. solos! BAND TRACK 'Don't tell me maybe' The Jimmy Delphs release is only the tip of a Hayley Records avalanche of unreleased gems that will be issued in the coming months and years. Watch out for Bobby Sheppard 'Surely', Tony Hestor 'Keep a hold on me', JJ Barnes' alternate take of 'Deeper in love', Jimmy Gilford 'All over and done', and releases from The Golden World Band, Pat Lewis, Steve Mancha, Andrea Henry, The Perfections, Terri Bryant and many more.
