HOT BUTTERED SOUL LEGENDS OF THE UNDERGROUND SATURDAY APRIL 6 2013 9PM - 2AM FREE ENTRY ALL NIGHT THE GALLIMAUFRY 26-28 THE PROMENADE GLOUCESTER RD BRISTOL BS7 8AL NICK THE RECORD (DJ FRIENDLY RECORDS / LIFEFORCE JAPAN) ANDRES 'DREAMBOAT' CERVERO (FEEL THE REAL SOUNDSYSTEM) MIKE SHAWE ALEX SEAL SOUL / BOOGIE / DISCO / HOUSE The Hot Buttered Soul family are so excited to have NICK THE RECORD playing at our next party, plus, the welcome return of the 'Dreamboat' himself ... ANDRES CERVERO We can't wait for this party to drop x Nick is a Brighton-based record dealer specialising in rare Soul / Funk / Jazz / Disco / Boogie and Hip Hop ... and he probably has one of the largest collections of Rare 12 Inches Singles in the UK. Check his website: http://www.djfriendly.co.uk/ Quote from Nick’s mum “he was ever such a good boy, we never used to hear a peep out of him, he would just sit in his room for hours on end listening to records on his old record player". As a boy growing up in the 70’s Nick was always listening to music, he dug the funky soundtrack, skits & musical guests on Sesame Street, he liked two tone bands like The Specials & Madness. His two older sisters were into what they called disco which had by that time, reached the popular masses, people like Michael Jackson & Change. Bring on the 80’s and Nick would save up his pocket money so he could buy one 12 Inch every two weeks. In 1983 at the age of 13 he came across the 1st in the series of Streetsounds Electro compilations, this was a revelation for Nick who suddenly had a name for, and access to more of this new music he had been feeling so much. For a teenage kid growing up in the 80’s Electro was the perfect underground music with it’s associations to space travel and video games & Nick formed a breaking crew with some local friends. In 1986 nick got his first pair of decks and started to play with the local soundsystem in St.Albans where he grew up playing Rap, Electro, Soul and all the modern dance records that we’re coming out. He didn’t know it at the time but he was already buying early house records like Adonis-No Way Back & T-Coy-Carino — in an era when genres seemed less important, to Nick these we’re just good dance records. His interest in Hip Hop led nick to start looking back in musical time and start exploring the breaks, then the rare groove scene kicked off and this exposed him to even more musical styles and he started digging Funk & Jazz which then led to an interest in Boogie and Disco. In 1988 nick moved to London and worked in QUAFF records in Ladbroke Grove who specialised in Rare Groove, and later in RED records who sold all the new House & Hip Hop Imports, this all helped with Nick's crash course musical education and expanding record collection. In the early 90’s nick started to play at lots of underground parties in the thriving wharehouse party scene and also during the summer at many outside parties and music festivals as well as guesting at DJ Harvey’s legendary MOIST club and being resident DJ at QUIRKY at the Vox. In 93 Nick’s love affair with Japan started when he went over and got together with a crew of friends and formed LIFEFORCE, who’s legendary parties are still going strong today, with nick as the resident DJ visiting 3 or 4 times a year. In 2000 Nick’s musical knowledge was called upon by Counterpoint records who asked him to compile 'Disco Juice', a collection of rare Funky Disco, Boogie and Soul from the P&P & associated labels. Nick has also released 2 official mix CD’s in Japan on Lastrum & Avex (Japan’s biggest record label). Nick's recent Guest DJ spots include: STUDIO 9 (New Zealand) FUSION (Stockholm) RAINER TRUBY’s ROOTDOWN (Frieburg) MONDO (Madrid) LARGER THAN LIFE (London) PERVERTED SCIENCE (London) RIGHT AREA(London) JAZZ CAFÉ( London) KERMA (Helsinki) QUART FESTIVAL (Norway) GLOBAL BEETS (Brighton) E.S.P. (Brighton) RUSS DEWBURY’S JAZZ ROOMS LOOP (Tokyo) UNIT (Tokyo) WOMB (Tokyo) TAICO CLUB (Nagano) AGEHA (Tokyo) and LIFEFORCE-Tokyo / every 3 months) ..plus many, many more! http://www.djfriendly.co.uk/ Peace and Love ♥ HBS Family A shout out to FEEL THE REAL SOUNDSYTEM, THE GALLIMAUFRY and the BRISTOL MASSIVE X https://www.facebook.com/events/121775191341059/

Amazing!
-
All these are great, this is so helfful, thanks to everyone who has posted suggestions. I have lots of work to do I, hopefully sending YouTube links to the happy couple will suffice until a decision is made.
-
Will do some more research and let you guys know the date. They really don't have much of an idea what to chose, so the most fitting tune will be fine it seems, doing a favour for a work colleague, it's his wedding
-
Great suggestions guys, keep 'em coming!
-
I should maybe enquire as to what type of dance they require, they are not connoisseurs but are both musically linked by soul
-
A friend has asked me for help in choosing a soul track as a first dance at their wedding, if anyone has any bright ideas please post something up, thanks. I was thinking: The Joytones 'This Love'

Mike Shawe replied to Mike Shawe's topic in Record Wants
Off topic, but there was the famous 'bootleg' with Your Love by Frankie Knuckles, the remixes came later, possibly on React, maybe '96? Anyway, '86 version only please -
