  1. Was big into gog go back in the day, which I'd seen this guy he was the king of go go.
  2. Jez has a similar Saxie Russell acetate, is the solid centre right? most us acetate's I've come across havelarge holes.
  3. if only people had the balls to do that nowadays, I just hear peop[le slagging off 'across the board' all the time.
  4. It did come out on US columbia eventually, Ive got one, but that booty's the one to have, I remember the tale from the time, Parksey Hammered too @ the Hac, summer 91, class year for house tunes.
  5. Mass order is an imense tune and at that time seriously hard to get, I wnet to one, just one, nighter around that time at congleton, run by the irepressible Mr Beggs I believe, and the scotts crew were there spinning soulsful garage, including a track by Martelle on clubhouse records.
  6. I met loads of characters I knew of the northern scene @ the Hac and assorted clubs around the north west, it was hard to resist really. Geoff Oakes, who's mentioned extensively in Dave Shaw's 'cassino', seemed to be like sting's 'Ace face' from quad in there, cept the Mohair suit was a Leather Chevy jacket and the lambretta exchanged for a white astra G.T.I. He went onto run start 'renaissance'. I always went for the more soulful end though and got into seriosly spinning garage around 92, I still adore 'the Jersey sound' as well as ancient chicago jacks. In fact I'm having a great time going back through that stuff, obscure labels like 'on the move', 'high Bias' 'smoking', 'tuff' ect have some real gems if you really dig. One day, you never know, the soul crowd may truely embrace it as, uptempo, soulfull dance music. Hmmmh, wonder how many 'smoking pressed of each issue????????
  7. In the 8ts, when flare groove was at it height and the 70's seemed to have a peverse apeal to rail against the ubercool look of , 2nd hand 501's, capper DM's, and MA1's, the 'wigan look' had its appeal. For me now it just reveals an anti fashion aproach, of many who clearly just wish it was 1975 again, some 7ts clothes look great and for me it was an era of great style for a few and ugly lumpen garments for the many, the Wigan vest's bags and hoop skirts is defiatly part of the later.

He was certainly a genius, and one of the most influencial basists ever!
  9. good, interesting thread this, I've wondered about the majors too, I think we have to separate the wheat from the chaff though, or the desirable and pricey from the proper rare. I also wonder what sort of quantity the flops in general were pressed in, Say for a disc that sells for around £100, Bobby Sheen, Patrice Hollaway on Capitol or a cavilers on rca, 5000? 10,000 or more?
  10. Setpember 1989, Rob Mariot was the man, Blackburn, 100 club Keele, Dave Charles, Ruby, Walkover brouges, Baggy white shirt and braces, Smiggy from Leicster, you know the drill. Then a freind from the ns scene I insists I come to this club in Manchester, its the future, a natural progression from Northern soul he says. I was hardcore, had done a nighter a week, on average for the last 18mths, how could I give it all up. December 89, Graeme Park, Mike pickering, Nude night, Mister B, Bizz Nizz, anything on Chicago tracks, Love on Love, Stearling void, joe Smooth, Joe Bloggs 22 inch bottoms, gazelle's, New yorkers, how could I resist? took about 5 years befors I listened to northern again
  11. That why i gave up collecting about 10 years ago, everthing top dollar, more than in the, then new, book and rising all the time, it no fun skinning yourself to but a couple of tunes a month. Feel like I'm getting to the same stage again, its not great value for money in collecting terms, this soul lark!
  12. that the one you played sat Kev?
  13. Joe dunlop had a copy of the spontaines a while back, maybe worth cxhecking, he's on here.
  14. I certainly would and I'm looking forwards to the next, having missed out due to here inddor gooing out twice a year, the bleedin cheek!
  15. thyanks for that, I must revisiti it sometime.
  16. I used to play both mixes in clubs as a new release, and was well into sanchez's sound at the time, but I dont think its dated as well as other mixes from the time.
  17. I bought one of these blind in the 8ts from camden record exchange, and there must of been another 30ish copies in there, wonder who eventually had them all?
  18. i did hear there was a buch of four tracks found too.
  19. Here you go, my choice, is first choice, Rochelle flemming has an unsurpassable voice for me, probably one of the most sampled tracks of all time too!
  20. it would just have to be First choice- let no man put assunder, closley followed by 'doctor love'. There's loads of great disco Acca's on the 'anonomous' series, always loved the 'you aint really down' track, but cant remeber the artist, Ian? anyone? there not credited on the LP's.
  21. Well said. and sadly the upfront scene is follwong the trend that the rare and oldies scenes started, everyone chasing the same tunes, anyone got a gey Imprint,LOL.
  22. God I miss shades, nothing on the net thrills me as much as settling back with a brew and Dekka' s fanzine.
  23. True, 60's lp's are as good as 7ts 12's in some cases, mono seems to work better as early stereo separation can be very ropey
