danny rampling said he did it in the early days of shoom, with Italo house records, soundsystems did it in the the yard. Its often used to give focus and attention to a tune that might be ignored due to its lack of credibility, ie the paul anka, J casewewell.
cant believe this, so sorry, hope he gets better real soon, saw Dave, return to his car as we were finishing packing up change, said he felt a bit hot, and was having a rest in his car.
Interestingly no one seems to have picked up on the fact that the politeness and respect element thaty used to exist in alco free nighter seems to have, to a certain extent, extended out into soul nights where carling plays a greater role than sknf. your certaily a lot less likely to end up in 'mayther' @ a soul event than you would at any other kind of mainstream music event.
nearly worn my copy out, the chapters on the warehouse , the paradise garage and sanctuary are pretty much definative, but you may want to skip the jimmy saville bit.
just re reading peter shaprio's 'turn the beat around' the best book on the subject imho, really a great read, specifically the chapter about philly where he describes how salsoul nicked the best musicains from philly and toughned up the sound to take the rhythm sections to another level.
love it love it, I have more salsoul and philly than any other sub genre. like virtually everything posted, trouble is an awful lot of NS fans ain't music fans, just collectors that like specific records, and as such will hate everything that varries from there rigid scope of dancefloor fodder.
in the top 3 books ever! like with the bible and war and peace, or maybe shakespear's collected works and Dicken's Great expectations maybe. I hear it maybe on the gcse english cannon soon.
I'm sure they are, I have some great audio file jazz albums but they have to be absolutly mint to to get the best, Vinyl is debatably less durable that other formats.
do you think its a matter of horses for courses? The few folky bits I have, fleet foxes ect, and Jazz for example might fair a little better all in all from digi because of the issues you can with quiet passages, where as music of a dynamic nature, black music for example may bennifit from analogue?
