  1. Yep but he also said that northern soul and funk, for that matter, is far too serious, he's not wrong there. but old folks having a knees up to youthclub tunes aint what he was thinking of when he talks about enjoying it either!
  2. nay bad at all, production needs work though, sounds like his voice is too high in the mix, imho
  3. thought is was Mill edwards? same guy I know but I'm ever the pedant.
  4. come on then enlighten us???.............
  5. fair point Graham.
  6. to be quite honest, these aged, youth clubbers, getting together to listen to a bunch of shite oldies, is akin to pissing on the real scene's grave and if you dont get that, you never got it in the first place. imho of course
  7. just rembered this is a 'kalimba' production, did he do much else for other acts around this time?
  8. I've got tht album, but missed that one.
  9. fair Do's there some grt soundalikes but even this could have done with a little more major label cash spending on it, productions good but the mastering aint what you'd get from the big boys.
  10. hoped someone would put soemthing on about there early incarnations, I have an early single on WB? but its not grt to my memory and I've heard the amazing 'sweetback' soundtrack but thats as far as I've gone into their early history.
  11. how many super obscure groups 70's and 80's took there cue from this act. So many rare modern tracks are just a pale imitation of EWF's blueprint sound.
  12. Really glad I posted this thread, grt to here some of the anecdotes and picks from you guys, hope some younger/ unenlightened soulsourcers pick it up and get turned onto what is as someone else put it the original soul supergroup.
  13. I think thats the Key listening to EWF is like listening to about 10 other bands at the same time, i9f that makes any sense, LOL.
  14. have to say thats brilliant, listened to it last night, one of those tracks that really comes alive on vinyl through a nice warm old system, analouge rules.
  15. This spell of fine weather got me playing through my earth wind and fire albums, highlights, so far, for me are 'cant hide your love' and 'evil', 'Zanzibar' just wondered if there any other fans on here? what are your personal favorite tracks/ albums.
  16. as much respect as for him as an artist and songwriter, the guy just cant sing anymore, imho, I saw him around 10 years ago and he could'nt then, I was really disapointed. And some of the new material is great but capturing it live isnt like cutting it in a studio. As for the stones, again mucho respect but I find it all a little desperrate really. I'd sooner be catching some new talent.
  17. class album, and what a way to own it, if it exists, where did the snap of the cover come from?
  18. is that the one with 'ooh ooh mr peavly' in it?
  19. why on earth would they want to ruin it by doing that!
  20. found the same thing with ogs myself, uk always very pricey
  21. what a voice, a true king of blues and soul.
  22. I'll vouch for that, bidds is proper bugsy!
  23. Spiders hard to beat, but this tops it, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2im2HDJtgc
