  1. why would anyone book someone in a modern room that couldnt use the equipment?
  2. from a DJ's perspective you should frig about with the eq, gain and volume at every possible opportunity, you cant call yourself a dj if you dont, its your job!
  3. Sure I can remember the original owner talking about planning the building out by placing toy soldiers in a scale model to check capacity. It was on Evisons show years ago when he did a torch special.
  4. over the last 10 years fpr me its questionable if any dj has really shaped the scene, records have by and large stopped crossing over into the mainstream. there have been influencial dj's, carl heard's name is notable but the real influence comes from the promoters with the ever growing insidious creep of commerciality.
  5. borrowed this recently, having read oodles on the subject, tis a good insightful read form a culture veiwpoint, not a great deal about the music in it tho.
  6. not often enough to be honest.
  7. 'you arent down for that thing' then 'what do I pay for that spot' could of been a board game maybe be like ' what do I pay for old kent rd' long shot but its hard to hear that single voice clearly.
  8. I can remember watchin Njoi's Saffron mining miming to anthem, thinking, this isnt right, I know that 'im in love with you' is just a sample from an old disco tune, there loads of others, there was an act on totp that ripped off that ' reach up' acca and some guy mimed it.
  9. I can remember going to keele around summer 90 and loads saying 'where you been? dont tell me, you've gone raving'
  10. We get a mix of classics followers and guys who want quality deep house, we try to strike a balance but there's more tolerance and less built up predudice to others peeps tastes
  11. I got one of them and wondered the same, looks pretty obscure, fantastic track too, that sax break is wild.
  12. after having a discussion about sasha ripping off Graeme Park with his landlord vs nicole mix recently, I had to titter, its already happening, check out the track ID's on various oldskool sites or maybe shine in leeds, or, blatant plug, lovehouse in cheshire. I even play original 12's only.
  13. my first all nighter, thanks for putting these up Chalky, a real blast from the past.
  14. I nearly fliped when I heard the longer cut of this, awsome.
  15. very well put sean, trouble is one of those scene's is thriving the other dying on its arse or at least so small as to be pretty much insignifigant to the other. Northern soul is now the nostalgia scene, a complete bastardisation of the scene's origianal ethics, I for one cant help but feel passionate about a bunch of 'divs' taking over the name at least and believing they know what its all about. I understand anyone who passionatly defends what they believe is right, even if they know the outcome is inevitable. Unfortunatly the progressive side of the scene is far from united with various factions within it thus disminishing the little influence it has. The family ties Sean speaks of have been severed forever, both pretty much isolated from one and other in the main, that IMHO is the saddest and real change in the last 5 years.
  16. bring back the moderns rooms!
  17. all quality.
  18. just, finally got the white booty, and I'm chuffed to deaf, subtly different than the released version, and far better mastering imho, one to grab now while there still around
  19. too many to include all my faves but here some for starters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U95wtChb9wM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noGMDDiUPRA and this, I have it about 5 times on different formats/ mixes but just had to get a proper bootleg mix, the boot is just the only one to really have https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zh7frsXNWlo
  20. that will have its day
  21. patti day tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also have 'drive me' which is also stupendous.
  22. good post,m kinda of confirms my thoughts but I'm sure this will be circular, kids will rediscover music, games are shite, lack depth anbd any really positive emotional experience, imho. Noticed another forum I use' oldskoolanthemz' has declined considerably, odd really given that, like northern, the actual demographic for this style of music is still growing. more people listening to more music but carinjg about it less and less, strange.
  23. inverted facism that, I'd be pretty proud right now of not looking like a soulie!
  24. favorite quote from this was, 'none of that funk shite, its gotta be the real deal from the 1960's', boy how times and personal perceptions have changed.
