  1. another top set, stoke (and south cheshire) certainly has talent, thanks for one and all who posted, seriously good tunes at this event, roll on the next in october. coupl more added from my too.
  2. on thge contrary my friend, life's far too short to have no passion or conviction.
  3. Seemed to stay quite busy till the end, this one. I took over from Nick at around 10.45 and played till around 11.20, when there were still quite a few changettes in attendance. Anyhow's here goes for my set, as always a blend of latin, r and b, funk and straight ahead northern, stopping at a few ports in between the afore mentioned styles. Black Sugar- Too late Royal Jesters- That girl Romeos- Mon petite chow Stone Fox band- Down in a hole Magnificent men- I got news fidels- What is soul? Louis Curry- I'll try again tommorow Earl Gaines- For what its worth Fats Domino- Sick and tired PW Canno- Hey hey Mel Houston- Ball of confusion Frankie Dante- Do you thang Shirley Brown- Yes sir brother Point Dume Boys- Hey, in the water
  4. think its a common misconception there's loads going on in stoke, several, local stokal's have stuggled to sustain any momentum in the last couple of tears. basically there's shite all work and money in this once industious city. not knocking anyone who does try, its just as mr neville put it, 'a hard nut to crack'.
  5. nick that set could be called, 'now thats what I call underplayed vol 1'
  6. top notch thanks guys, thought this was worthwhile as I know there werew a lot of requests as to what was played during thenight, will post my set later. thanks once again, this really was one of the best 'change's in terms of music.
  7. Yep but he also said that northern soul and funk, for that matter, is far too serious, he's not wrong there. but old folks having a knees up to youthclub tunes aint what he was thinking of when he talks about enjoying it either!
  8. nay bad at all, production needs work though, sounds like his voice is too high in the mix, imho
  9. thought is was Mill edwards? same guy I know but I'm ever the pedant.
  10. to be quite honest, these aged, youth clubbers, getting together to listen to a bunch of shite oldies, is akin to pissing on the real scene's grave and if you dont get that, you never got it in the first place. imho of course
  11. just rembered this is a 'kalimba' production, did he do much else for other acts around this time?
  12. I've got tht album, but missed that one.
  13. fair Do's there some grt soundalikes but even this could have done with a little more major label cash spending on it, productions good but the mastering aint what you'd get from the big boys.
  14. hoped someone would put soemthing on about there early incarnations, I have an early single on WB? but its not grt to my memory and I've heard the amazing 'sweetback' soundtrack but thats as far as I've gone into their early history.
  15. how many super obscure groups 70's and 80's took there cue from this act. So many rare modern tracks are just a pale imitation of EWF's blueprint sound.
  16. Really glad I posted this thread, grt to here some of the anecdotes and picks from you guys, hope some younger/ unenlightened soulsourcers pick it up and get turned onto what is as someone else put it the original soul supergroup.
  17. I think thats the Key listening to EWF is like listening to about 10 other bands at the same time, i9f that makes any sense, LOL.
  18. have to say thats brilliant, listened to it last night, one of those tracks that really comes alive on vinyl through a nice warm old system, analouge rules.
  19. This spell of fine weather got me playing through my earth wind and fire albums, highlights, so far, for me are 'cant hide your love' and 'evil', 'Zanzibar' just wondered if there any other fans on here? what are your personal favorite tracks/ albums.
  20. as much respect as for him as an artist and songwriter, the guy just cant sing anymore, imho, I saw him around 10 years ago and he could'nt then, I was really disapointed. And some of the new material is great but capturing it live isnt like cutting it in a studio. As for the stones, again mucho respect but I find it all a little desperrate really. I'd sooner be catching some new talent.
  21. class album, and what a way to own it, if it exists, where did the snap of the cover come from?
