  1. I read Frankie knuckles say that its all in the sequence, whatever the musical style, heard so many northern jocks get this wrong over the years, and i'm anal enough to apply it at home too.
  2. think I've got something similar going on at the moment with a sale
  3. have to agree with the 6ts/ 7ts call Ian, its not historic prejudice, but you just have a lot less to work with, 6ts songs tend to be shorter anyway with a tighter song structure, and edits tend to seem very obvious and a little cheesy, I'm sure there's plenty that break that rule though .
  4. yes, totally agree on this one, reminds me of ashford and simpson- seems to hang on, which does benefit from a longer mix.
  5. some don't, some do, at least that's what tom moulton thought anyway, its been going on a long time
  6. well that's kind of the point with edits, you take out the bits you don't like and extend and stress the bits you do.
  7. couldn't live without playing them, I can go one or two nights but after that I'm chomping at the bit. I alternate between a variety of styles of music, soul, disco, funk. I usually play an album every, relaxing and reading when work is done, rock, pop, jazz blues. them a session later on the evening with 7's 12's and albums. feel like id be letting the side down if I didn't, its like I have to get a quota in! I also use mixcloud quite a lot nowadays, usually breaks mixes and people like scruff and Muro.
  8. really something Sadie was the b side ifi rememberriht, you used to get lads of demo's with it on both sides at Berwick st market

  14. the rise of Miami and New York as main players in the formation of the disco, along with the aforementioned and crucial philly sound. Prog rock and the general move towards a more sophisticated sound in all forms of popular music, that's not to denigrate soul, but think about easy listening listening as a force too. great topic with some excellent, very well informed facts and views.
  15. one of a few prev unreleased that is yet to really have its day.
  16. one of THE best 60's soul elpees imho. Twas a favourite of Led Zepplins to cover when they were still the new yardbirds, never recorded it but there is live version on the Utube
  17. Sadly I'm very familiar with said ginger prick, and his music is totally of 'the now' and would have done nowt in any other era, totally disagree with you pal, a whole lot has changed, most of the 6ts tunes we know and love are four on the fours for a start, you hardly ever here that timing in contemporary music, most dance is four on the floor before anyone counters.
  18. what makes a pop hit today aint shit all like what made a hit in the 60's or 70's. Song structures, tempo's and arrangements have in the main changed so much, ok, you get throwback traditional style compositions al la 'happy' but in the main its a very different market., image is so much more important for instance., so are we talking hit today, or in its original context? the time it was released?
  19. sure someone did a cover a few year back?

  21. bet the bugger was butterfeild!
  22. First heard soulful house, emotive, clubhouse, New york house around 92 at a nighter in Congleton, but I can remember Ion banging on about it back in 88 or 89

    rather disturbing, in parts
  24. at first I wondered if this was a new, retro sounding cut, but it just had something that Iv yet to hear in in a modern tune, a real honesty and genuine human quality that just 'soul' in its essence. is it commercially available on vinyl ian?

can I add, Cornelius bros, and sister rose, too late, Gloria Scott, Marcia Hines, Corey Blake. Cant see them elsewhere and all were massive and typify the sound I think Chris has clearly defined. Yeah there are loads of Mecca tunes and modern northern oldies you could add but to my mind that misses the point.
