  1. Having taken the last 4 year as a sabatical from the soul scene to run a house classics night my perspective is that its far easier to get people to dance to music the've not heard before on the dance scene. NS is a record, ie specific tunes, rather than a music based scene, people go to hear and dance to specific records rather than music of a certain type.
  2. is that a crack I see before me.
  3. sorry but thats just dumb, the sequence makes a massive difference to a set, most northern DJ's havent a clue and it shows.
  4. the one i've heard had cue burn too.
  5. One of the biggest problems is most people wont dance to records they've never heard before, even if they love them, virtually very big oldie has cleared a floor when it was first introduced
  6. wasnt this place famous on the high energy/ gay scene?
  7. seen it clear the floor a few times, too fast, for most nowadays
  8. seriously, so many devotees, what maybe be 20/ 30 people under 30 who regualrly travel?
  9. the ultimate has to be the guy at Winsford and the legendary incident involving Butch and was is the then Del larks cover up. Might have the details wrong here, please correct me, I was going to winsford at the time but cant recall the incident personally.
  10. spot on mate, best comment on the thread.
  11. sad but true, the very term scene, in relationship to northrn is a misnomer.
  12. Christ that Evette Busby is shite, sorry Guys i like my soul with balls, whatever the era. If thats typical of the modern scene, I'll stear clear.
  13. Funnnily enough I was reading a biog of Janis joplin last night where they clamed these guys were into Dylan and the folkies rather than soul and funk
  14. top find, ace!
  15. ther'e a BB king version on his MFP lp too. not v good tho.
  16. ther'e a BB king version on his MFP lp too. not v good tho.
  17. they don't sound too bad, apart from the mix, but I don't know if its because the're on a small stage but the seem so static for a soul band, just not dynamic enough in the performance department.
  18. its all in the past tense this underground debate, lol.
  19. isnt 10 just about the abnsolute minimal legal requirement for an event that size? doesnt seem like a lot to manage that size of venue with that amount of people in it.
  20. It should do, but to most Upfront means, non northen (mod, latin, R and b, ect) 60's Dancers, Ok you get the odd earlly 7ts funk thing thrown in, but lets be honest here, the upfront and apparantly open minded crowd, dont want to hear anything that sounds like modern soul. When you going to hear a Boggie record at one of these events? or even a 9ts garage record?. honest answers please.
  21. that's nice, its got a great loose feel to it, but the band can really play, jazzers on their day off, I guess.
  22. thanks dave, always wanted to know the back story, any official release? it was on a bretby boot lp wasn't it?
  23. It was massive at the 100 club at the same time.
  24. I can remember hearing this played at Keele, what's the story on this one Dave? I wasn't really into the scene at the time.
  25. hope you were taking the p Adey, the decline in quality of Beeb 2 directly coralates to its celebritfication
