The enduring nature of the NS is down to the way it has constantly evolved, rather than being like bugs in Amber, or teds in drapes, Northern has always shirked a retro tag, instead opting to be still relevant and contemporary whatever the era. Trouble is in the past the evolution was in the hands of DJ's and collectors with a certain degree of musical knowledge and credible but uncompromising taste. With the demise of the rare scene and the annexing of the upfront and moderns scenes respectively its now in the hands of CD and pressing waving sad sacks who are in the main youthclub wannabe's, who's kids have grown up. Filling the floor with lowest common denominator shite masquerading as innovation is the name of the game.

some damming opinions on this, not hot on it myself, but I've heard some awful soul and funk records played out too and the northern scene has always been a dance scene first and foremost so why the hell shouldn't there be a place for tunes like this. Is it really pushing the envelope any more than playing ten year old,bad house records? or even black rock and roll tunes from the 50's? or yet another tune that's a version of tighten up? variety is the key for me that and tolerance, it may lack soul but is does have a certain sense of atmosphere and probably enough momentum to carr it on the dance floor so why not!

I really follow you on this feel the same about loads of tunes, spinners- i'll be around, bobby reed- I'll find a way are two that spring instantly to mind, Del larks is another, I believe it got really hammered at Wigan, justifiable, but a shame it ruined it for many.
