  1. Think this is the disc Maria and Karl had or another cut of it. If I remember right, it came from a west mids collector who had an indiscretion and this was all that was left of it after his missus caught him, as she couldn't snap it!

    Exceptional talent, irreplaceable
  3. Seem to remember maria and Karl, rest his soul playing an acetate credited to a willingham, and saying that sharing a surname it made it particularly special to them. Could it be related?
  4. Poor old Dave, what a palaver for him a Sarah

Really saddened by the loss of one of our regulars and local nighter stalwart, Joey Owen. I amongst myself others will certainly be dedicating a tune to him.

Please read above just a little DJ update for you.
  7. Ok thanks folk
  8. Is the stax copy of Otis redding/ Johnny Taylor blues in the night legit? Anyone? I know the album was the original source of this unissued track. Many thanks in advance
  9. In a word derivative
  10. Despite agreeing with many here I can't help but recall nighters 87-89 and thinking most I went to were as sparsely populated as nighters today, often moreso. I can recall a Blackburn with around 20 in. Some seem to elevate this era as a golden age. I'm having more fun on the scene now than then and personally the variety and range of quality sounds are better, but then I've always had a wide taste in music. Positive news with the addition Alternator in Burton cropping up, again Midlands but positive nonetheless. Id say I've seen nighter atendendence rise over the last couple of years too.
  11. Remember boots are welcome on the dancefloor but not in a record box! 😁
  12. Lots of interest at Dark horses Saturday, shaping up to be a blinder.

It's been a very busy month on the event calendar forany but despite that and in hospitable weather Dordon still rocked last night. This event for me is one of few places I can really rely on to deliver the goods musically. You can be assured both the guests and residents will offer something you haven't heard and can dance too. It comes from genuine passion and insight, simple. I got there pretty late but caught most of jafon Hodges excellent set that showed a collector of great taste but he also managed to keep the floor busy. Next up Ethan Howard, best I've bread Jim play, he reminded us all why we got into it, rammed the floor with sterling classics then kept us there with a selection of magnificent soulful house. I e waited a lifetime to here it done as well as they, credit to you lad! Les Norman is a consummate professional loon😂 but he's got some ace tunes I don't own and want😭 any road he played a great set, pitched just right for the time of night. See you at the end of March! The end o
  13. Well if my mate Jim is 60, I'm in. Bring it on, i expect a party atmosphere
  14. Wow, I was at St martins doing fashion, 87-90, london clubbing in 1990 could no way get near what was going off in the nortth west at that time, in terms house music, so i scarped back up there at the end of my course
  15. I always say I don't like it, then the legend that is Gospel Bob, Robert Cornock, blows away with one of his sets again. The very best to play this genre IMHO
  16. I did get to drummons once but that was even worse, I had jeans in they weren't going to let me in until Allen Hanscom vouched for me!
  17. I moved to london in september 87 myself, just as i was getting into Northern. I'd been a couple of local nights and the wheel revival nighter at the place mate 7, usually with my brother and his mates. My first nighter solo was in Holborn, something Ion put on and I had a positive experience on meeting a guy ive never seen again who introduced me to sedge Dave Carne and a bunch of people. Kev Moore came into my university and we got talking which also helped. But to be honest I totally agree, 100 club late to mid 80's was full of mods who sneered at anybody who didn't have a well fitting suit on. Alan Hanscome and some of the skins were friendly but it was tribal, cliquey and intimidating.

Looks fantastic, heard it's a great night right in the heart of the city
  19. Rugby had some great nighters last year looking forward to the first of the year

Massive massive thank you to all who attended Macclesfield masonic last night. What a top night, amazing to be involved with the revival of this great venue. Our honourable guests Ethan Brent James Howarth, who had me deserting door duties to race to the dance floor for 'Nite people ' and Jordan Wilson who has become a real force of nature in terms of selection and confidence or delivery. Both brought their A game to keep the dancers happy and create a real buzz on the silky dance floor. My back was proper done in but I still couldn't resist a shuffle😁 Music wise, the emphasis truly is on the dancefloor, everything from big current sounds, quality oldies to out and out classics from the roots of the scene, it all goes down. Always room to try something fresh though and great to see the below get a great reception. PXL_20250117_221537366~2.mp4 Our next is March 21st, proper Northern soul for dancers, simple!
