  1. BEN SHERMAN- ORIGINAL?- not really, its been done to death, oh and people on the scene, well they don't like the commercial exploitation of it, unless there being commercially exploited and they not really the types you want to wear these clothes! cheesy and tasteless. I did my Northern soul collection in 1990, when the UK moved to a different beat!
  2. Probably one of the most influencial producers all time Great loss indeed.
  3. some top picks ao far but top of the tree has to be Gladys knight) - walk in my shoes, cant see it picked so far, testimony to the quality!
  4. a few alternatives from me, cant rank them though! Cameron/ David ruffin- no matter where sisters love- giving me love Eddie Kendrick - going up in smoke Eddie Holland - outside looking in Liz lands midnight Johnny Marvin Gaye - right on (johnny beggs version) underdogs - love gone bad Thelma houston- I'm here again temps- you know I'm losing you Tammi Terrell -all I do
  5. looking to sell my copy of you gone, its a solid and honest vg. Light marks and a couple of heavier one, just a little noticeable noise in the first 30 seconds or so, label is writing free but shows a little wear and has some edge lift around ring. Played out on a big system a couple of weeks backs and can honestly say it played with no noticeable noise. First realistic offer gets it, will try to post some photos later.

  7. What a dam shame, sounds like another fine band I'll never get to see.
  8. That's great didn't know it, but I but suspect I have a copy lurking in a box somewhere, but I will get digging the afternoon!
  9. Got my last copy around 1999,and paid about a tenner, and both sides are great. At £58 for a demo, the with current prices its value for money!
  10. two from me, probably both well known to most, but ever been massive? well they both deserve to be, both up there with any female vocals in the top 50, nay top 20 northern oldies! got to better than Holly St James again anyway!
  11. repeated tonight on gold, for anyone who needs another cringe, at least this is funny.
  12. look at the girl, has been played in the past, been told it was a wheel tune? I've played his version of "papas got a....". Boston monkey, off the unreleased album is a passable dance track. There's another great dance track by him that I can't remember?
  13. love this due for a revival, but prefer the alternate take off the album.
  14. think this was first shown on Dave last year, its on gold at the moment. Couldn't believe we've not commented on this is the past given the fuss that strictly created, but can't see a previous thread on here. Anyway watched an episode of this geriatric comedy the other night where he and a mate attend the soul patch, " the finest northern soul, mod and vintage r and b club on the soul coast". His daughter comments " it's just a pickup joint for Horney pensioners". The clubs scenes are priceless and chillingly accurate for my money. Can't see a clip on youtube, can anyone help?
  15. I hardly know anything played on the show! Thanks for the link guys will check it out.loved the tunes from the scene when they go to the black biker party in oakland. Some awesome funky rock tracks. Wonder who the music advisor was? And what's their pedigree? Now I'd pay good money and travel to hear that dude spin.
  16. will try to post one later, wondered if they knicked the backing, or is it a different backing anyway?
  17. Come on geezers, someone must no the crack?
  18. jclml- linda jones is a really good call, esp that note she holds in the breakdown, just about my favourite passage in a NS track
  19. my son wouldn't let my sell my pressing of the 'joker' he just loves that manic laughter
  20. Just had the excello release of the rose Davis removed from 'ogs. For copyright infringement issues, why? I assumed that this was a legitimate release, or was it realsed to cash in on the Northern market?
  21. Is it the same Lisa fisher that had successful solo career as a solo r and b act in the 90's?
  22. For me it would have to be stax studios. hard to pick a single recording, maybe otis doing tenderness, but or just hearing cropper and the boys laying down time is tigh or bootleg. Ruthus doing itch and scratch possibly, and it would have to be stax though.
  23. Never seen one? Iove it and own it but wouldnt have thought it was exactly ripe for booting, but to good for the trousers brigade!
