  1. think we'd have a far better soul scene personally, the NS baggage isn't helpful. Hey maybe we'd even have a retro influenced yet progressive, cool, upfront scene where people could play what the hell they liked without someone saying "this isn't Northern!". People might actually know what soul is at local nights instead of confusing it a few colloquial pop records that were big in a few discos in the 70's.
  2. £400-450for a quick sale sounds realistic
  3. Love it, quality 70's pop rock. But at a soul night??
  4. The most insulting has to be 'got anything good?'
  5. Don't think Marvin would give a shit personally,. But the house I danced to 25 years ago had far more bollix than this insipid, smooth fm, fodder. Its not offensive, just bland, it's really in that, 'crazy world' groove, but it really lacks bite imho.
  6. what you need with that oatcake is a milkshake
  7. deffo a torch discovery,
  8. Good trade, dogs is far rarer surely
  9. A stock reply you hear on this site, would be, Don't buy records that have been hammered to death over the last 40 years and therefore bootlegged or reissued. Try buying lesser know but great records that can be a fraction of the cost of the top 500 biggies. Just get digging on YouTube or discogs, check peoples play lists. There are literally millions out there.
  10. Used to be really into 'almost grown', a US 90s TV show, one episode is about him searching for a stash of cash he'd hidden in a record years ago, from his vast collection, it ends up being stashed in a copy of 'fist full of dollars'. Obviously!
  11. Rare isnt a permanent term, count boxes of in demand items do turn up.
  12. Certainly an amount of vitreous indignation that's not becoming of the elder generation of soul purists and someone so respected and knowledgable. Leave it out chalky, you sound bitter!
  13. It's not a great record to dance too. Hate the bloody record personally. Rarity over quality, OK it's got soul, unusual production etc, but in terms of groove it ain't all that and certainly never a dance floor winner. The scene is just so fractured now can there be a single big tune, what's just breaking in the mainstream is past its best before in the upfront.
  14. But supermarket chains manipulate the price they buy there stock at too. Do you think record dealers have this luxury? Buy in prices are rising for dealers at the same time, surely this has to effect the retail price for punters. This thread just seems like its having a pop at sellers, but so many of us that trade records are equally guilty. I've passed on loads of tunes that are in demand, based on wants and sales on here, and I've been astonished at some prices, I've got. I'd prefer a pile of semi knows with potential to one hot, or let's face it, hammered over played record, that the oldies lot have just picked up on.
  15. Thankfully the record collecting world is not based on nearly as much bulls thither as the art world
  16. I think issue is rarer than the demo, price above seems about right, doesn't come up all that often.
  17. Not used for a number of years, but we're great when I did, timmion of Iceland,? If I remember correctly.
  18. Potentially a lot of its collectable. Some of the early UK independents, new Jersey stuff, early Chicago House has already started to rise in price. As for a scene we'll there a are plenty of revivals around and just a few, that as we used to do at lovehouse, push the boundaries a bit. It was always great to see the expressions on faces when I played one they'd forgotten, but a recollection was secretly stashed somewhere in the ghettos of their minds.

  21. Hendrix and chad chandler didn't think they could break hendrix in the states and focused Initially on the UK market, thinking us more more progressive in our outlook.
