  1. Lots will hate this but this, but it's brilliant to me and has a whole lotta soul IMHO.
  2. https://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2020/04/the-bizarre-story-of-the-imitation-queen-of-soul/ Mention of lavelle Hardy in there.
  3. Personal favourite
  4. Possibly it's a much needed distraction ATM.
  5. Some excellent folk art there, thank you.
  6. That's a re press isn't it? Did this come out originally on soul potion?
  7. I wonder, working in a mainstream record shop at the time, if you were registered for chart sales you literally got 100's of singles given to you every week. Tihings like this were never full price to customers either, usually 99p in attempts to get them to sell. The whole industry in the 90's was seriously currupt. Sol I wouldn't treat any chart as an accurate record of real sales. Brian Adams, no 1 for all those weeks, yet you never see it in a charity shop, odd that.
  8. Wonder if that included 12 inch sales, I'd say at that time that s would have sold more on that format, I bought on a 12 the time, and I honestly was interested in 7 inch singles at that point. I exect it's more common on a 12. I don't have a 7, never seen it at car boots ect, but I'm not trying to big it's rarity, tis common as Corona.
  9. Wonder how many were issued? I hazard a guess of A minimum of 10'000. Most probably agent out free to shops on billboard.
  10. Thanks that's a great starting point. But do collectors agree with it nowadays?
  11. Couldn't find anything on a search, so how about some of you British collectors inform us what the rarest on this s legendary imprint is. Rarest demo?rarest black one? And what about the other Uk labels Detroit's finest was issued on, Fontana, oriole ECT.
  12. Is the outside looking in the same as Eddie Holland? No writing credit on the label.
  13. Don't mention Craig Charles, things are bad enough..
  14. Have to say I was really disappointed, as I generally am with the BBC and especially BBC 4. It was like a Poundland soul compilation IMHO.
  15. Maybe totally unrelated but I get a buzz from this underground house label with many future collectables on it. https://www.discogs.com/label/3460-Bumble-Beats-Records
  16. Great female vocal I'm afraid I don't know, looks like soul Sam on the decks though. Although there's a fair few bespectacled bald northern djs.
  17. Interesting that the same area was so good influencial in the late 80's and early 90's great to see the region is finally getting bthe recognition it deserves. https://daily.redbullmusicacademy.com/2019/01/doug-smith-interview
  18. https://daily.redbullmusicacademy.com/2019/01/nick-the-record-interview Not specifically soul but many interesting parallels. Loved the bit where he mentioned seeing all those p+p sleeves.
  19. Your right Mike, don't see why you need to out other publications down in the process though, which I feel makes me valid in reviewing the review.
  20. Rather harsh on other books, 'turgid affairs'. 'the beast it is today', well that would be a toothless and impotent beast that's a shadow of its former self IMHO.
  21. I'm sure Dave and Pete will correct the details. . And old friend of mine and many other regulars in the 80' s was a youth from Leicester. He had a great collection which he left with a friend whilst on her majesty's pleasure. When he got out, just one record was missing, Joanne Courcey. His pride and joy. Can't think of anyone I've met who was more dedicated to what the scene used to be. He quit the scene, never to return, his illusions of brotherhood shattered forever..
  22. Thing is a lot of people assume this is about a Thief robbing for profit. Knowing human nature, it could be done out of spite, envy or a host of messed up reasons.
  23. I was surprised by that, but c+ c could afford to drop a hundred grand they way they were turning out tunes back then.
  24. Thought the s might be of interest to some.A true soulful dance music pioneer. If like me you love the new Jersey sound, you will be aware of his influence and contribution. Many talk about Chicago tracks but for me house music starts with 'visual's - the music got me. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/01/obituaries/boyd-jarvis-whose-synthesizer-fueled-dance-music-died-at-59.html
  25. The Soul Majestics - I Done Told You Baby / Missing You (7", Sty) really clean copy. NM £100 PLUS POST. PM If interested, atb. Geese.
