  3. I mentioned tailor made's earlier, usually derided. Reaching for the best some consider an exception, personally I think that's tripe too.
  4. You speak about it like its a prize. You only have to look at contemporary music to see how damaging a limiting genre can be. Musical formatting on the radio and elsewhere is a scourge that's results in little creativity.
  5. I really don't mean to be pedantic, but it is, actually a really important point. The term northern soul was and is imposed on certain records, regardless of genre, to a certain extent. Records that set out to be 'northern soul', are the exception, derided, in the main, and know as tailor made's. If someone ones looking from a sociological viewpoint, it's crucial to understand context. Northern soul is British, not from the United States!
  6. It's not a genre, it's a musical scene, that draws on a range of genre's, the most important being upbeat 60's soul.
  7. TBH, I can see the future owner playing it at a local soul night and it clearing the floor, surely they'd be gutted.
  8. Another Stoke soul brother gone, a sad loss of a real character on the scene..
  9. It happened with the Paramount four on southern city, ok, it's rarer, but it certainly got more attention after, ' sorry ain't the word'.
  10. Be nice if there's a bit of a revival of the Vessie Simmons track, fantastic 70's dancer, deserves to up there with king Tut, flaming king ect with true classic status.
  11. Thought the same, it's very similar to summat!
  12. Never attended but have always tried to collect oldies from the club, it's local and part of my heritage. So here's a list, I've been told were played, and I think most torchites will associate with Hose street in tunstall. Fuller brothers- time's a waisting Patti and the emblems- gonna love you a long long time James bounty- prove yourself a lady Patti Austin music to you heart Jimmy soul Clarke- come on and be my sweet sweet darling Lee David- temptation- is calling... Major lance- you don't want me no more First choice- this is the house Cooperettes- shingling Fred Hughes- baby boy Duke browner- crying over you Rose Batiste- hit and run It's by no means exhaustive but it's a start.
  13. Both side are great but ' classic example' is simply amazing and must surly go in the same direction as Carla, Ben e king and the Paramount four.
  14. You can here plenty this weekend at the class of 72, reunion this weekend.
  15. Just seen a young kid, maybe 17, in patchwork jeans. Maybe a revival is upon us.
  16. It has to depend somewhat on the crack, some you can barely see, others are much more noticeable and audible. The general condition also has to have an impact. Cracked record that's otherwise NM, and plays greator a really grubby copy that's G+ to Vg-?
  17. You can't talk about fashion, without context.
  18. Well thanks for this at least, I've got a red one, but have always wanted the yellow one with photos, just love artist photos on labels. Better play the flip then after 30 years. .
  19. Don't think anyone has got a problem with promos that are genuinely used for that purpose. It always perplexed me in the 90's when house and contemporary soul promos were always for sale, allbeit at reduced prices, on some cases far more available to buy than actual issues of the 12.
  20. It reminds me of buying house tunes on the 90's, half of the new UK releases I bought were on promo copies, usually at reduced prices to get them to chart and pick up sales. Dumped by reps as sale or return.
  21. On fb mate. Apologies, 'get him off my conscience'
  22. Just seen Dave pinches put a want out for this, did I miss something? No US copies on discogs, but I thought this was still a cheap record. When did it shoot up? If it has. Surely this must be one of most common records to gain value.
  23. At least the 70's reissues have proper labels, at least. Just hope some label owners are reading. I wonder how many of these are actually used as promo and sent out to club or radio/ podcast DJ's?
