  1. I got a bobby off here for £100 a few year back think that was the rock bottom price for such a great record, it's only risen since, seen it sell recently at £175.
  2. I assume there is no way of definitively knowing where a certain record was pressed in the run?
  3. Really interesting read, I assume those numbers are theory, can the stampers be pushed to make more copies? Does the sound deteriorate? I can imagine some producers pushing those limits.
  4. There are some great call's here, Eddie Parker, del parks, top shouts, epitome and superlatives, Bah, too close to Motown to be definitively 'Northern'. The okeh's again, very apt. However, I think you've missed this. Definitely from way before my era, but from that galloping piano intro that seems as though it's about to topple over, Chuck takes us on a manic ride that can only mean one thing- Northern soul. If you'd never heard it before, can you actually imagine that? it would literally blow your head clean off! https://youtu.be/IjJ8OfeeNHw
  5. What's the dead wax on those razors? like like boots to me.
  6. There's loads of records I'll can't bring myself to buy because they were so common at nighters in the 80's. Valantino' s is a good example. Few others like George Kirby, are relatively cheap.
  7. Hate to be so negative, Nothing offered remotely does it for me tbh, I really do find contemporary releases, shallow, lacking in authenticity, and just a bit plastic. I haven't got closed ears and I'm willing to eat my words but even if I like them on initial listen they quickly fade into oblivion in terms of my taste. McDonald's music.
  8. Well I for one will try to get down. Looking forward to some quality underplayed.
  9. I've got hyme of the 7th galaxy, by return to forever band, think I've topped you there.
  10. I voted sack second rooms but on reflection, certain records, from a wide variety of genres, only work in certain settings. Some great tunes are destined to be second rooms some sounds, not because of quality, but production or just sound and feel. I've had some great fun in back rooms, spinning and dancing over the years. Long may they continue.
  11. If theyve just spent a silly amount on a record, they want to get there money's worth, it's the obsession with rarity, even if all the djs present gave a copy with them, that determines what most DJ play, ego, pure and simple.
  12. Pro and cons on both sides as well highlighted in the conversation, on the weight of it and for the reasons soulacola highlighted, I'd take pre net. tastes change, the mainstay of my collection had been the left feild things you used to be able to speculate on. Their is a value to everything now, less real shops, junk shops ect.
  13. Country boy hadn't had the attention it deserves yet, possibly due to how big his others have been.
  14. It's on Tim Ashley's FB page apparently.
  15. Heard on FB this well known stoke soul lad has passed. An amazing dancer and promotor of the bear, soul night in Newcastle under lyme during the 80's.
  16. Think the use of the term, Northern soul, is ambiguous in this case, it should be straight forward but isn't. . For me Northern soul has always included a healthy element of sounds from at least the 70's, if your talking rare soul or oldies. Are you asking people to state if it's an oldies night where only 60's are played? Honestly don't think you'd find many, unless it was a wheel revival. Because as stated initially, 70's, what I assume you're referring to, as modern, has been played since the torch.
  17. Just been reading the thread about the biggest ever nighter, which seems to many there worst ever nighter! Atmosphere is generally created by folk being in close Proximity. It doesn't have to be more than 30, in the right size of venue. Personally I'm dying to get out again, especially as I'm going to be facing 150 kids on Thursday, but I think I'd hold out till things are done properly.
  18. Most clubs were on there knees before this, how can they possibly make money with these kind of restrictions?

  20. Used to hear amazing things about dingwalls at the 100 club.
  21. Changing demographics of the soul scene, lots of old scooter people on scene nowadays, one reason not enough 70's and 80's material is given the chance imo.
