  1. I studied fashion in London from 87 till 90. Returning home at weekends some of my northern soul friends had started to go the hacienda. Mike Pickering, talked about the musical split between north and south clubs, with the north being first to accept house music. For a short time there was a definite split between the type of house being played, Sasha and others initially pushed a soulful sound that contrasted sharply with the 'headf**k' as we termed it, that Fabio and grooverider offered. Shelly's Friday night attracted people from all over the north west, Saturday's eclipse crowd was drawing ravers from the south and Midlands.
  2. Really heart warming this, these old ladies will always be young, the music is timeless.
  3. Well, I'll quote my brother who attended the Torch was there when Major played, plus many Wigan nighters. We stood on the balcony at the hac and said; ' the young ones who missed the torch used to ask how good the torch was, when we stood on the balcony at station road. This, he said, as we looked down on the madness of a 'nude' night, is on another level.' The halcyon days of house, were truly something else. But atm going to Burnley, or the hundred is so much more musically satisfying than any retro house night, for me at least. That would be something if we could see a renaissance of modern and northern played together in one room in a big venue. Just think, JJ callier and Michael proctor on the same playlist.
  4. Be great, as you say to get Pete, for a date next year as we have plans moving forward with this night.

  7. I heard great things about this night before COVID. Hope to call in tomorrow.
  8. Great to have a local legend on board for this. 'going to be a big thing's as they say!
  9. Think your right there, thought it had been pressed, officially elsewhere.
  10. Right, might have brought this up before but I'm convinced that the soul fox boot is an alt take. For a start it doesn't have that the first drum strike, as in the red coach release. The intro sounds slightly different, it's in the bass and use of snare drum in one section. I've compared the two, wonder how this came about? One of the few boots I've kept, its on the flip of, ' change your ways'. It t has Dean Courtney, then the Carstairs on the other side. Anyone else compared the two?
  11. It was a quality nighter, couldn't get off the floor for most of the time I was there.
  12. Both Simon and Amanda are top of their game in terms of upfront sounds. Can't wait to here them this weekend.
  13. Butch obviously, mark Jones blew me away last month. Man of the match at Burnley was Chris Stanley, aka, doc pickles, closely followed by Amanda Cottrell, who is not a man
  14. Anyone know this? Had it? trying to think about value, non sold on discogs, not on popsike or YouTube.
  15. Tickets available from the venue soon, or from me or jez out and about, or via post. Pm me of interested.
  16. Classic Northern soul and Motown returns to Biddulph, at knypersley cricket club. With Geese, jez and guests playing proper records.
  17. Darrow is top of the tree for me, everything they did is sublime imho, carl good but not in the same league to these ears. Darrow has a distinct and unique voice that's easy to recognise. Female I'd go for Rochelle Flemming, of first choice, hope she not too mainstream.

  19. I was going to use that as another example. Well, initially at least. In 88/ 89 you would have heard; Belgian new beat, US house and freestyle, break beat, UK house, Italo house, new Jersey garage and even street soul at a rave. The genre didn't start till late 90/91, by then it was almost over for those that started the scene.

  22. I mentioned tailor made's earlier, usually derided. Reaching for the best some consider an exception, personally I think that's tripe too.
