  1. To be clear I agree it's nowt like a Levine job. I like it regardless of its origins.
  2. Puts me in mind of 'eye of the tiger' with that chugging baseline. Have to say I agree it sounds like nothing typical I've heard from the era,79? I have my doubts tbh
  3. Possiblity discharge today Kevin so you never know, I really don't want to miss this, event of the year for me.
  4. Sad loss, never really had the credit he deserves. Was really into many of his releases in the 90's especially this https://youtu.be/9IwbrhRcS6Q
  5. Anyone discovered who she is?
  6. It certainly is building, a real legend of the underground coming to the most humble and honest venue, conna wait!
  7. £5 from king bee a few weeks back!
  8. The scene has become obsessed with rarity to the extent where its stifling anything fresh or progressive IMHO. If you look at the foundations of the soul scene in this country how many of those records played were financially unavailable? Certainly good DJs had their exclusives but what proportion of the records from the torch and wheel were out of the reach of the average punter if they really wanted them? 10%, maybe less. Compare that to say Ted's set last weekend or any DJ working nationally. Martin Ellis would never get gigs now, or Evo for that matter, if he was starting out, and yes I know Dave's got an amazing collection, but he's always championed cheapies, Spyder turner for example. Bring out the ten quid tunes and let's get back to exciting DJ sets.
  9. Perhaps you'd like to expand on this history, I'm curious. As to what your saying, what percentage of these unrealised tracks from the halcyon days of the scene were first played off Emidiscs? I never realised how influential they were, I've obviously been sold a lie by my soul brothers; on the value of collecting originals and how exploring record collecting through listening to records on obscure labels trying to find something fresh is intrinsic to the scene. I could have saved a fortune and just bought a pile of emi's or carver's!
  10. until

A true reunion, I was three when the torch closed, but the nearby venue has cast a long shadow over my life ever since. Proud and honoured to be asked to play some of my favourite records in my collection from the halcyon days of the legendary venue.
  11. He's from new Jersey isn't he, that's saying a scouser's a yokel
  12. Well.he couldn't do a worse vocal than Frank, could he. Bruce is getting on but at least sings within his limitations and is in key, unlike Mr Wilson.
  13. Conna wait for the next installment!
  14. At last the return of this legendary venue.
  15. Played this out after times in the last ten years, always goes down well, the origin of 'that' sample, so it's instantly recognisable.
  16. Listened yesterday, what a story.
  17. It's like asking if I prefer salt or pepper, both are essential to enhance the food of life.
  18. Wow, been playing elements of love, at FTMNTC, paid a just over £100 last year on discogs.
  19. I like it, and in the right room, sound system ect can see it working for dancers.
  20. Thanks to all involved, it's brought intrigue, laughter and frustration at times, long may it reign.
  21. Over the moon to play at this venue again. Always a challenge; be bold, be daring but don't play anything crap.
  22. This night has really built over the past 12 months. If you say you're looking for something truly different, rather that the same old rich guys playing their nob wavers, this is actually it!
  23. I'm not saying it's not a good song but it's so light it could blow away, I can imagine 5th dimension doing a version or Patti Boulaye, in some ways it's more poppy than BO. but we are comparing pop and soul from different years, must be ten years between the two songs.
