  1. It got played a lot ten years ago but seemed to have passed its peak. Mind you there are loads collecting now who weren't back then. Seems every town has a Johnny come lately with loads of cash and zero Imagination that just wants boxes full of known rare soul to fill the floor. Hence the demand for what should be a dead record.
  2. Good point, tbh the whole presentation looked cheap and tacky. The design seemed non existent, something I could get a bunch of year 9 lads to knock up in an afternoon. The amount of creative people on the scene, it really was piss poor in every way. the Azov boys logo was just part of it. If you saw it at a local carnival it would be the worst float there, let alone the jubilee.
  3. I totally understand your sentiments but changing the format, to mp3's, wouldn't necessarily mean that a DJ would play a request at an event, you'd have to find a selection from the 7'000 that the DJ supported and would be convinced that people might dance to. They might hate it, and it might clear the floor.
  4. Just plucked out of the air, should have said Guy Stevens maybe? although there of course many other worthy candidates. I'd propose '63 as the start date, the year he started his r and b night at the scene club.
  5. Some excellent post thanks folk, keep them coming. It is a ' how long is a piece of string discussion', but very interesting non the less. I don't really want to pin the to thread to either that narrow definition of uptempo, black or at least black sounding soul records or the wider definition mentioned above, I'm interested in both and to throw another idea into the fore; how many have been played on the scene from Rodger Eagle to the current day?
  6. Fair point, that's the rub, really. Seems like it nowadays.
  7. Hopefully it would have been dismissed. It's not like the media have ever really represented scene in an accurate or complimentary manner in the past. It's really just virtue signifying on part of all that took part. 'Look at me I'm into northern soul'.all should have known better.
  8. Wouldn't have made any cash out of it.
  9. I remember Tim Brown speculating on this point in his magazine, early 2000's. Think he estimated around 10'000 known uptempo soul tunes from the 60's, obviously that would widen massively if we include modern and other sub genres such as R and B. Personally I always thought that estimate was on the high side, especially if your just looking at uptempo 60's soul. what do you reckon?
  10. My other main interest is BMX, a group called the ROM riders also featured in the parade. How the hell did a bunch of grown men riding kids bikes, one with ET on the front! Look more dignified than the clowns that represent a scene I associate with? The facist debacle just sums that element of what the parody has become, cultural ignorance is nothing new, anyone remember Northern soul gollywogs?
  11. I love throwing in here say and half baked theory, it seems to always bring out the distinct facts.
  12. I heard a guest, from Detroit, on Richard searling's show say he'd seen kids rolling the master reels down the road. He went onto imply Berry Gordy had laid waste to golden world studios, leaving it intentionally uncared for, to stop anyone else using it. Seen Hayley promoting an unreleased version, with false start of Al Kent recently.

  15. Oh come on, there's a big difference between a big Money auction item, thought not to exist, and someone flogging a Salvidor's boot, as just that. I didn't and I'm not having a go at John who made a genuine mistake. We should all know by now, why boots are a considered a bit off. it just gets a bit childish when members on here try to score points on issues like this .
  16. What a great line up, breadth and quality!
  17. I'd not seen this before, seems so apt. I'd love to know who did it, I'd love to buy them a beer!
  18. IDWTSM, was all over the soul pirate stations at the time as well as getting sounds in West end clubs. Big club sound in London.
  19. Great to see the buzz on this night steadily build, looking forward to another great night of amazing musical diversity.
  20. I was heavily involved with 'oldskool house' events. It just hold attraction for me any longer. It literally is the top 50 house records over and over. It just seems like a big cynical cash grab.
  21. Stopped drinking brandy last week, possibly the DT's. Funny thing is, I'll concede, but I'm still not convinced, I can see the grainy scan on an old list, in my mind. Might book a holiday in Athens and get digging .
  22. Apologies folk, think both our memories are addled. Maybe you're right and I'm just confusing with Frankie Beverly, I do find it odd that we both confused the two and and chubby is a Philly record, though. I'll file my copy next to my Trends album then.
  23. We'll both myself and John manship seen to disagree
