Less than two months to go for this first foray of the gathering. New venue that harks back to our gis of our scene, an underground basement with a cool courtyard and upstairs bar. Lots of buzz about this on social media and with the line up we've selected it's not surprising.
I was starting to give up hope, but finally arrived, outstanding new release from cannonball, both sides great, but below will surely reach classic status
Honoured to be asked to spin a few tunes down at this great venue. Stylish but homely bar that's expansive. Hope to bring some fine selections of soul and funk.
But you wouldn't find a record like the mello souls on a major label or the del larks for that matter. There's nothing commercial about it, I'm unsure of what market it was aimed at, a happy accident by made by some kids. That raw sound that's still sophisticated it's truly a rare quantity in the genre.
I'd like to add that this practice doesn't work without discretion, well know classics are to be avoided IMHO, it's a technique that works best with less familiar titles. I appreciate peoples more purist perspective and it's not something I ever do listening to albums at home but playing out is a different matter.
Aye up all, insomnia has given me time to pose this question; what was the first venue or and recording to use additional pitch to enhance a tune. I know many will deplore the tactic but personally my slider is seldom at zero. I've even been known to pitch down.
I've said it before, can't believe I have this event on my doorstep, you simply don't hear the quality and diversity of music, anywhere else I've been, that you'll get at FTMNTC.
