Just where is NS heading in the future?
Mate when as the media ever portrayed the scene in nuanced and balanced way? if they call again tell them to funk right off. Whatever this scene needs or has ever needed it's not media attention. One thing old and young should agree on is the intention to keep it underground and not part of mainstream culture, that is the the defining element that's kept it alive so far.

Did James Fountain seven day lover change the scene?
Seems also to be a shift in tempo, or time signatures between the earlier period at the wheel and what was being played at the end of the wheel/ begining of the torch nighters. A good example is the okeh stuff, early wheel- the beat, rhythm ect opposed I do t want you more and sani Sheldon

Just where is NS heading in the future?
I think the thing that's been missed across this conversation is that the people who will be around to carry Northern Soul on, weren't around when it was at its prime. They didn't get to experience what most of you have had and won't ever get the opportunity to see, feel or even really understand it from your perspective When that then? Wigan 78😁 see other thread, torch 72? Tiles, 1964? Stafford 82? Plenty of young uns think the early 80's was the zeitgeist. It was ace back in the early 2000's at the Ritz and Prestwich. It's all context and perspective, in sure the south London nighter will be full of young folk who think it's now.

I was scared to articulate that as I'm too old, but spot on mate. Someone like Pete Lawson or tommo would have scared them all shitless.

Just where is NS heading in the future?
I'm thinking, your off the mark on this Paul, surely it's only a handful of people. Then I actually watched the clip and wow, more on the dancefloor there than at many venues! When do we have a time when this becomes the norm and if you're not doing it you're the one looking odd, scary, it's real cultural appropriation in action.

Vondors rich girl
Anyone have the above or heard of it, white group, dark red label. My brother had it in the 80's can't find a track of it on the net. I'm 100% on the title, 90% on the artist, possibly vondelles or similar, any help appreciated.

Just where is NS heading in the future?
Lot of opinions from folk on here who onna going out much anymore. I've had some great nights at venues over the north west and midlands over the last 18 months. Heard loads of fresh tunes and danced a lot. It's more social than it's been in the past, less clicky and there a better mix of male to female, Mr brother used to moan he felt he was at a gay disco in a soul night in the 80's. Some folk only want to hear their own definition of what NS is or can be, but as been pointed out before, it's not a genre, it's a dance music scene, and if its danced to it, it is NS! 60's Garage, funky soul, the stax sound and rhythm and blues all have heritage on the scene along with many other styles, their popularity has ebbed and flowed, some don't dig it. Sod em!

A very well put together piece. This venue has real heritage on the scene and deserves to be supported.

The end is nigh.
I'm not picking on Wigan, you make a fair point, some amazing records discovered there..

The end is nigh.
I get it's all new to them, I loved oldies and the stuff Guy and Ion were playing when I first got into the scene. I still love oldies now, especially torch and wheel era. However I hated most of the poppy shite that was played at Wigan from the get go. I went, and still do, for music with bollox and an raw feel to it, not pop records or love boat music which is often what I hear associated with the 'apparently' burgeoning youth scene. I say apparently, because the clips I've seen frequently show the same handful of costumed actors dancing their (hands on!) hearts out, Surrounded by loads of pissed locals who possibly show at that venue every week for whatevers on. Now I may be way off the mark, I've not attended these events, but that's what it seems like to me.

The end is nigh.
Very good point, the folk left on the scene, generally still are music focussed and obsessed, the youth version of the scene seems as happy to dance to Jimmy James or 'love don't come no stronger', as something rare, great and underplayed.
