  1. I'm always suprised by how much and how well certain modern tunes go down @ oldies soul nights. Especially considering how hard it is to break new or current 6ts spins. Handbaggers seem eager to dance to the likes of Micheal Proctor, Kenny Thomas, and DJ Gemini when the likes of the Parisians clear the floor.
  2. Two records that would still get me up for a shuffle .Donnie Elbert Little piece of leather . Sorrry but, someone else played it on sat, for gods sake this man cant sing!!!! his voice is so irritiating I said to Jez, if someone found another version of 'do i I love you' on acetate, I'd buy it to snap, so no one else could ever play it. The only soul singer that you could compare Ce lo Green to, yes that bad imho.
  3. Cheers Dave.
  4. They did on a sundays, I can remember been really sneared at by the london mods, but the skins and suedes were ok.

  8. Good pick, on Broadway was big at Wig, wasnt it as well?
  9. oops, I've bought the bleeding thing in single a while back too!
  10. A trusted freind told me he first heard Del larks of a tape Levine sent from the states, before he was back around 71, was it a mecca record? I'd always assumed it was wigan.
  11. heard Drifters - Ghetto child today and it reminded me it was often the last record at peterbourgh fleet in Bucky's day, could I, should I? hmmmmh?
  12. Ironic really I've heard wooden nickels at the last 3 soul nights Ive been to, and If I hear Delagates of soul again I'll scream, certain rare soul tunes are as over played as Frank wilson.
  13. After raiding me motown and 6ts youth club classics on saturday for a oldies night, , I was wondering where's the cut off for some of you lot? Where do you draw the line? the snake? landslide? Chairmen of the board? Band of gold, LOL. There's tune's we'd all cringe at, but, what do you think you can get away with? or again where is the cut off, as someone once said 'I'd do anything for northern but I wont play that!' Perhaps some alternative ideas on familier ( to everyone) but not so overplayed tunes might be a hoot too.

  18. Come on Chalky it is rather predictable.
  19. just looks like a fashion shoot to me, the only thing missing is, tank top by slarty Bartfast, £12000.99. liners underneath.
  20. I'll have dig and I'll have dig and post some on tis thread in a bit.
  21. yet they dismiss proper roots-of-soul rhythm & blues as rock n roll and country music. I lot of what I hear played of this ilk are tin pan alley also rans and have less connection to black music than music made by black musicians, frequently from detriot and chcago, for black audiences in the past 25 years.
  22. pete I can honestly say there'sa absolutely nothing constructive about this comment, Why?
  23. I notice no one mentioned 90's or even Y2K indie soul, for me there's probably more miliage in street soul or even what was on the fringes of the acid Jazz scene.
  24. sounds a great combination.
  25. same here matey, gave up northern in 89 to go to the Hacienda, Shelly's, Legends, shaboo ect, then just followed the soulful side of the music since then. Returned to the scene around 97ish after the best of it was done.
