  1. Pulled some choons off the shelves, to let go, last week and had to spin a few cause I couldnt remember them! thats one of the pleasures of collecting. Amongst then I found a couple of B sides that have since found thier way into the play box, just wondered if this is a common experience, What did you find when clearing the shelves to sell?

  5. be careful , most of the demo's are dubious to say the least!!!!
  6. well so do country singers and reggae artist, but its not neccasarly soul, blues tends to focus on one element of life, black folk tendend to express there joy of life through a different genre, gospel. Both gospel and Blues can be soulful of course but are not soul in entirley

  8. Byron is great, pity paris brightledge aint doing much nowadays, and I know su su pretty well, michelle weeks and obviously joi stand out from the garage crowd but its a bit more gospel influenced than straight ahead soul.
  9. Rapael is great, forgot to mention him, of course sharon and charles and notably James Hunter who's one of the best I've heard, but Celo, is a no no for me Jim!!!!!!
  10. Following on from the plan B thread, I 've heard lots of great white and black hopes over the last few years, Plan B, my comments have alrady been stated, Eli paper boy reid, made it through 3 tracks before I slat the CD outta the window in dispair, Fitz and the herberts, or whatever that're called, are you serious? and many more ( dont even mention duffy!) and basically apart from the Timmion lot, none of them do it for me. There are the odd exceptions, I really rate the cooking of 3 burners, and I'm willing to listen to others I dont know. Am I wrong to compare these upcoming retro acts to the greats from the 6ts and 7ts and if so who do I compare them to? Mick Hucknall and Lisa Stansfeild??????
  11. Sorry to anyone I caused offence to on here, I havent got a problem with the morning after pill guy, I'm just a little disanfranchised from contempory music. I just dont think that many of them can cut it, and of course anyone is gonna compare with the greats, or even the also rans we love so much from the classic era, why wouldnt you? those guys set the bench mark, so if you cite them as an influence your gonna get compared.
  12. What? as much soul as, say, Danny Wagner, tom jones or James Hunter Ted?
  13. What ever the're sh+te anyways!!!!!

  15. The sweet willl no doubt get a spin down @ Change, in July, by my fine self.
  16. This changes every month for me, there's always loads of great cheapo's I've never listened to before, 3 recent ones are; Gloria Gaynor- She'll be sorry Betty Wright- Sweet lovin' Daddy Eddie Purrell- the spoiler
  17. Kev, ive heard quite few big name collectors spin what I'd describe as nothing better than demo cuts, that lack a full production ( even a bleeding drum or bassline would help) to uninteresed dancers, a lot over the last couple of years, arrrh but the're only two copies of that! I hear them cry, thats an abuse of a privillage bestowed on you guys, rarity and exclusivity is great when combined with the discretion. that what makes butch so great! many others just dont have it. yeah Kev, empting a floor is a sign of a big ego, great dance records work on open minded dancefloors, sadly not all rare ones do!
  18. [Play what you love - recipe for disaster if the promoter wants a full dancefloor...
  19. lot of dj's have no imagination as George already said, it's sad reading others lists and copying there sets basically where is the enjoyment in that? would never want to play another dj's cast off's basically but hey ho each to there own... Play what you love, dance to great cover ups and have a great weekend y'all.... L As I said before, I think the focus on exclusivity aint neccasarly a great thing for the scene, for a tune to truely to crossover to the mainstream, it has to be about in multiple copies or sadly bootegged, cause every DJ wants their own exclusives, but tunes common to several dj's are just as important to the scene imho.
  20. Top pick mate, is there anyone who doesnt love this?
  21. Same here, but diversity be the spice of life too.
  22. Well there was certainy loads more young peeps on the scene in the 8TS when I got into it, and that was the beat ballad era! 'Panic is on' was massive along with kurt harris, jonnhy maestro ect, hardly stompers, but again I think was reactionary to what had gone before, ie wigan stompers. The re-assurgence in the late 9ts was about 5o somethings returning so maybe it was about satisfying that older crowd with slower tempo's and more soulful sounds?
  23. I think there a reationary element at play, for instance its not suprising that after a midtempo, tricky to dance to movement, like crossover, the next trends, latin and funky N, have an orientation towards the dancefloor.
  24. Bought the charley sampler and the stateside sampler in the 8ts, and still play them now, not particurly but some ace deep and slow stuff just for listening. Also the modern soul story vols 1 -3 are excelllent, if not probably legal. More recently the BBE series, funk spectrum, Soul spectrum and even the latin and jazz volumes hit the target fro me.
  25. lOVE THIS, ACE LP.
