  1. What this movie I hear you mention, youth?
  2. I suppose thats the real lagacy of this scene and back from the first mod generations, even surpassing the music, its the exclusitity the feeling of being into something different, something thats yours, or more importantly ours.
  3. cheers pete, that clear that one up.
  4. I've a vinyl copy on Canyon, the book says it should be styrene, but I query this as all the other canyons, chosen few for example are vinyl.
  5. A more serious one would be, Guy playing 'Down and out' to around 50 lost souls at the end of a blackburn nighter around 87.
  6. Butch playing the mello souls @ Jollies in stoke, around 88 and getting chairs thrown across the dancefloor at him by the stoke oldies brigade! PMSL. nothings changed!
  7. I know, I was amazed, but someone's covered it, LOL. .
  8. I used discogs a lot about 5 years ago to buy classic house and proto rave stuff, to replace the stuff i'd sold to buy northern, LOL. I could buy the same tunes now for around 1/2 the price of less!
  9. a few more that spring to mind from me; Jimmy Robbins- I cant please you (couldnt believe this was cheap when I first heard it in the 8ts) Fred Hughes- love me baby ( flipside to ooh wee) dirt cheap! Betty Wright- girls can do what the guys.../ sweet lovin daddy ( two great sides for around a tenner)
  10. Now yer talking keith one of the best, if you dont know this, get one, it oozes soul from every pore, an all time favorite of mine.
  11. Along with paypal fee's, I find for selling low value stuff, its absolutely an absolute rip off to frank, but thanks I'll be mindful of how good value they are next time I call at sotherby's.
  12. the bleeding prices they charge to sell things are mate, and there nowhere near as explicit as they could be about charges.
  13. Seems like there's a growning crowd looking for an authentic, credible, alternative to the ultra comercial, 3rd hand regurgatations that pass for youth culture nowadays, strangly enough as George pionted out in the excellent last issue of soul up north this seems to be concentrated in the more cosmopolitian city areas, just the kinda kids who shunned the scene in its hey day. When Northern soul was all about kids from the provinces. Thats only an issue as many city kid hipsters are notoriously fickle in there aproach to culture. Hope those on board, stay on board.
  14. I'd say a fair portion are bought by guys either djing @ or asspiring to play at soul and motown night/ disco's in pubs or function rooms.
  15. yep my crystal blue has ordinary on the other side if I remember correctly, but is it uptite not Fania?
  16. Thanks for that I have and love the 7 souls track, grt flip. Will try to hear this version on tube, thanks it sounds amazing.
  17. not aware of this one, is it the same song as Inez and Charlie Fox? I ask as I love Bataan and the afore mentioned song and can only think the combination would be sublime.
  18. just to confirm, were talking ska and reggae records here not soul tunes by Jamacian artists.
  19. I was rather suprised to hear, and see folk dance to an out and out Reggae record in the main room @ the kings hall sat, esp considering the uproar this apparantly caused at the Cassino when Mr Winstanly played Al Capone, as detailed in Dave Shaw's excellent Cassino. I just wondered if were all that much more tollerant towards other genres nowadays? Personally I'll stick me neck out and say although I'm fond of everthing from Bluebeat to Dub and lovers, I dont feel this kinda record has any place at a Northern soul alnighter, but found it strange, watching those left on the dancefloor trying to skank, rather than offensive.
  20. You taking the mick outta my relatives? LOL.

  24. Plenty of nights that feature this style, not sure if anyone would claim to play just funky northern, its a risk for any promoter to stick there neck out by pinning it down to just one style. Most of the more progressive nights advertise a variety of styles will by played throughout the night.
