Ok point taken, the fabulous counts tune is as far removed from traditional northern as a reggae tune, but but I'd enjoy dancing to the former more, just my taste, I know, but to me, although the counts record is only a distant cousin of say the salvidors, Dave and Ansell collins is from a different species altogether. Actually even tho the gal can sing, its a pretty cheesy idea really.

I was talking to a couple of old torch boys about Reggae and they said that no self respecting mod in 1970/ 71 would be seen dead listening to it or admit liking it. Thug music for footy hoodlems was how it was considered to many in the Stoke. Probably the same as admitting you like grime today, it had too many class conitations. Nothing against it personally but as so many have stated, it should have no place on the northern scene today, especially when so much fantastic, authentic, fresh sounds are derided by the oldies community.

First choice, my alltime favorite group, Rochelle Flemming is unbelieveable, and 'this is the house' still get regualr airings IMO atorch spin I'm informed..

Plenty of genre's are based around bedroom productions, its how modern dance and particularly house music started, often non musicians have a fresh attitude to music that proffesionals lack, I find that a pretty snobish attitude really. Morales, knuckles, chemical bros, fat boy all started out as bedroom boys.

It was spun a lot round the stoke area around 87/ 88, at keele, highland suite, longton ect

couple of thing I remember from the 8ts, Joe Stampley/ uniques- not too long ago and Anita Hulmes - what will I do Think the Anita Hulmes was a stafford track but was certainly a big spin around 87 for a while.

Brought this issue up a while ago, tis a pile, no large pile, of steaming turd and absolutly nowt to do with the Northern scene. I could go on about so called oldies fans being so ready to dance to this, and other reggae tunes along with Mel Torme and and Chris Farlow stating 'it was played it the wheel!' like its a defence! These same oldies punters detest any northern they've not heard before and would run a mile from any dancefloor that played any authentic 6ts, black, record they'd not heard of.

Got the black soul music and just bought a copy of mamma'a little baby, was wondering if they'd been played, when and where these two first aired? i think I'm right in saying soul saurce was a wheel thing though I know it was also spun at the golden torch too.

dustna spayke stowke youth? These records were issued nationally by larger lables rather than being reissued for the northern market in the early 7ts, think that the rule of thumb that I and others usually follow.

Its been said before mate, but its just pedantry to confuse this issue, national, local, it dont matter it was an origianl issue.

I was told that James Trouble used to take his own cart around with him for this reason.
