  1. do we include acetate's? or do they actually have to be on vinyl? lets face it even if they made onto a disc proper, and the're that rare they werent actually issued were they?
  2. pretty subjective debate, whatever your sentiments, that books already written, and apart from a few exceptions many of the top ten have, for me, lost the context of being a northern soul records,'tainted love', 'ghost in my house' and landslide are now, just former youth club records that enterain people week in week out at over 50's disco's.
  3. THATS ACE THAT IS, LOVE THAT TRACK.
  4. Black sugar's 1st - same, on sonar radio- no re's please and Billy Hawks- Heavy soul- prestige just looking for reasonable playable copies, cheers for looking.

  8. its interesting and maybe signifigant that the mod side of things sems to draw younger punters in, it certainly lured many a london mod into the 100 club in the 8ts. I wonder what will happen to modern scene? is there any interest in 70's to modern day soulful sounds from 'the youth of today' cor blimey I feel like Warren mitchell!
  9. not really but then again I'd probably still want an alretnative to the mainstream, comercial, or highly derivitive dance scenes that exist today. as uncool a choice as northern may seem, there certainly doesnt seem to be that much going on in terms underground subcultures and contemporary black music is generally the pits!
  10. my boss managed to buy a loud of maple flooring from a reclaimers, it had been used as a gym floor in a previous life.
  11. I've got that cut of it, and it sounds even less like that version than soulful strings imho.
  12. pretty sure it aint actually soulful strings now but its really close to it.
  13. I may of imbibed enough small square's of paper to make my clynically mental, Ian but I knew I'd seen it!
  14. is that a mole I see before me brandishing a burning spear? anyone seen this add, cant remember whats its for, even though its on all the time! anyway its got some animated mole jigging around to what sounds like soulful strings- burning spear, or is it? or could be a sound alike jingle made so they dont have to pay the royalties? its only a short segment at the end of the add so I'm not sure, any thoughts?
  15. really sad to hear that guys, and good luck in finding a new and even better venue, hope to make it down there soon, I've heard so many great reports about go go.
  16. I for one am sick to death hearing boot owners and players trying to justify using them over and over, Surely we all know the principles behind this, DONT PRETEND YOU OWN RECORDS YOU DONT!!!!! Isnt that what this is all about, carvers from acetate's or tape only track- not a problem, unless you just want to mudy the waters, you wouldnt even raise the point, imho.
  17. I think maybe the illustious mr levine may be a contender, not neccassarly in a direct way but all those disco efforts he produced and later the hi energy stuff were all influenced by N.S. He's always worn his influences on his sleeve, no matter what you might think he has been a rated and indemand pop producer.
  18. Ethically would it be something to be proud of making a mint from an underground working class scene? To many I'm sure it would be okeh, but the thought of it turns my stomach and makes me quite angry that the scene, so savy and credibility focussed, in some ways would allow it to happen, and maybe, perhaps, hyperthetically allow it to go on happening.
  19. Traditionaly bank holliday sundays used to be all about a single big event, the Ritz and then the wheel revivals beofre it. Sposse we should revel in it really though, like you say nidge. I'd love to be @ crossfire but sadly funds and family wont allow it, gotta see maxine brown sometime! Hope to be @ 7 inch soul on sunday though.
