good, interesting thread this, I've wondered about the majors too, I think we have to separate the wheat from the chaff though, or the desirable and pricey from the proper rare. I also wonder what sort of quantity the flops in general were pressed in, Say for a disc that sells for around £100, Bobby Sheen, Patrice Hollaway on Capitol or a cavilers on rca, 5000? 10,000 or more?

That why i gave up collecting about 10 years ago, everthing top dollar, more than in the, then new, book and rising all the time, it no fun skinning yourself to but a couple of tunes a month. Feel like I'm getting to the same stage again, its not great value for money in collecting terms, this soul lark!

I used to play both mixes in clubs as a new release, and was well into sanchez's sound at the time, but I dont think its dated as well as other mixes from the time.

is it on the lp they did?

I bought one of these blind in the 8ts from camden record exchange, and there must of been another 30ish copies in there, wonder who eventually had them all?

it would just have to be First choice- let no man put assunder, closley followed by 'doctor love'. There's loads of great disco Acca's on the 'anonomous' series, always loved the 'you aint really down' track, but cant remeber the artist, Ian? anyone? there not credited on the LP's.

Well said. and sadly the upfront scene is follwong the trend that the rare and oldies scenes started, everyone chasing the same tunes, anyone got a gey Imprint,LOL.

True, 60's lp's are as good as 7ts 12's in some cases, mono seems to work better as early stereo separation can be very ropey

Its tricky indeed Ian, but as I heard a promoter say recently' gain gain, f'christ sakes have you never heard of gain!' you can get equally as incompitant slots from the technically incompodent playing offa 45's.

I'd have to reconmend the soul spectrum series, esp vol 2, compiled be Keb on BMG, some top tunage on there.

I certainly didnt want to offend either, I said the've lost their context, and despite having upmost respect for those tunes, and those that heard them in their original context, i call them youth club because I've played at oldies venues where many heard those records originally at youth clubs and well nether really got beyond the youthy themselves. Anything beyond the NS top ten is alien to said punters and would equally request 'love train' or other philly/ pop records alongside 'al mathews' and a host of other non northern pop tunes. Again absolutely no offence intended and I hope this tract's left now because i got the wrong end of the topic initially and this is all pretty off topic.

the one i remember was surly later than that, wasnt it shown on beeb 4 and had interveiws with the residents of the seaside town where he stayed, ate muscles and frites, drinking a rocky 8 hopefully, a lucky lucky man indeed imho to be staying in the home of some of the best food and drink in the world

I love this tune, though I know many dont, i first heard it spun at venues like, the ritz and prestwich around the late 9ts, when it was a big, big spin, not sure where it was spun first, late wigan maybe?
