  1. Its tricky indeed Ian, but as I heard a promoter say recently' gain gain, f'christ sakes have you never heard of gain!' you can get equally as incompitant slots from the technically incompodent playing offa 45's.
  2. I'd have to reconmend the soul spectrum series, esp vol 2, compiled be Keb on BMG, some top tunage on there.
  3. I certainly didnt want to offend either, I said the've lost their context, and despite having upmost respect for those tunes, and those that heard them in their original context, i call them youth club because I've played at oldies venues where many heard those records originally at youth clubs and well nether really got beyond the youthy themselves. Anything beyond the NS top ten is alien to said punters and would equally request 'love train' or other philly/ pop records alongside 'al mathews' and a host of other non northern pop tunes. Again absolutely no offence intended and I hope this tract's left now because i got the wrong end of the topic initially and this is all pretty off topic.
  4. the one i remember was surly later than that, wasnt it shown on beeb 4 and had interveiws with the residents of the seaside town where he stayed, ate muscles and frites, drinking a rocky 8 hopefully, a lucky lucky man indeed imho to be staying in the home of some of the best food and drink in the world
  5. I love this tune, though I know many dont, i first heard it spun at venues like, the ritz and prestwich around the late 9ts, when it was a big, big spin, not sure where it was spun first, late wigan maybe?
  6. do we include acetate's? or do they actually have to be on vinyl? lets face it even if they made onto a disc proper, and the're that rare they werent actually issued were they?
  7. pretty subjective debate, whatever your sentiments, that books already written, and apart from a few exceptions many of the top ten have, for me, lost the context of being a northern soul records,'tainted love', 'ghost in my house' and landslide are now, just former youth club records that enterain people week in week out at over 50's disco's.
  8. Black sugar's 1st - same, on sonar radio- no re's please and Billy Hawks- Heavy soul- prestige just looking for reasonable playable copies, cheers for looking.
  9. Thats just brilliant Aday, amazing track, wish I could be there tommorow to hear it in full, maybe next month!
  10. Lithuanian soul power! seriously I know loads of old soul boys round my way with eastern european linage.
  11. Myron and E, on timmion are a new group I think.
  12. its interesting and maybe signifigant that the mod side of things sems to draw younger punters in, it certainly lured many a london mod into the 100 club in the 8ts. I wonder what will happen to modern scene? is there any interest in 70's to modern day soulful sounds from 'the youth of today' cor blimey I feel like Warren mitchell!
  13. not really but then again I'd probably still want an alretnative to the mainstream, comercial, or highly derivitive dance scenes that exist today. as uncool a choice as northern may seem, there certainly doesnt seem to be that much going on in terms underground subcultures and contemporary black music is generally the pits!
  14. my boss managed to buy a loud of maple flooring from a reclaimers, it had been used as a gym floor in a previous life.
  15. I've got that cut of it, and it sounds even less like that version than soulful strings imho.
  16. pretty sure it aint actually soulful strings now but its really close to it.
  17. I may of imbibed enough small square's of paper to make my clynically mental, Ian but I knew I'd seen it!
  18. is that a mole I see before me brandishing a burning spear? anyone seen this add, cant remember whats its for, even though its on all the time! anyway its got some animated mole jigging around to what sounds like soulful strings- burning spear, or is it? or could be a sound alike jingle made so they dont have to pay the royalties? its only a short segment at the end of the add so I'm not sure, any thoughts?
  19. really sad to hear that guys, and good luck in finding a new and even better venue, hope to make it down there soon, I've heard so many great reports about go go.
  20. I for one am sick to death hearing boot owners and players trying to justify using them over and over, Surely we all know the principles behind this, DONT PRETEND YOU OWN RECORDS YOU DONT!!!!! Isnt that what this is all about, carvers from acetate's or tape only track- not a problem, unless you just want to mudy the waters, you wouldnt even raise the point, imho.
