Be great to be back at the cygnet after maybe ten years. One of few events where I can play an accross the board selection under heard tunes. Bring it on youth!
  2. I've not watched this and after recent BBC fare I'm hesitant. It's a subject that's already well documented, especially in book form. Looking forward to some detailed coverage of disco's roots at the sanctuary in San Francisco. I thought 'rock you baby' was considered the first disco record?
  3. Just seen Amp fiddler, Detroit producer, has passed, some may know for his waltz of a ghetto fly track. A true innovator in a world of clones.
  4. They were dead stock, but I think I ended up trading for 'tune up' on British, to minshull, who Tim owed.
  5. I got a epitome of sound, stone mint in 87, off Tim A, £20, he had a stack from the states.
  6. Seems to be a growing buzz on this nighter. Great line up in two rooms at this iconic venue that really stirs memories for so many, bring it on!
  7. Left field but this had to been in mine, loved the original but Charles does a great turn on this black Sabbath tune
  8. Can't remember the artist but always liked the female version of ' got to get you into my life' on scepter, if I remember correctly. And this The best version for me
  9. The record is symbolic for me really, I always wondered if they actually thought it would be a hit, even locally. That atmosphere of menace and the attitude it's played with, tbh they actually sound like there on amphetamines, it's got an almost punk or metal attitude that elevates it to mythical status. I said to someone I love it so much because it feels like it's going to topple over and collapse at some point. Butch was wise to cover it as the del larks, it has exactly the same kind of low fi magnificence, that destined it to commercial failure, yet eternal obsession so many years later.
  10. Blew my mind first time I heard it at Bradford queen's hall. I was always really dark there, the floor cleared and just a few stayed on, the dancing, that fast floaty thing, you never ever see now, amazing memory. Good call's!
  11. A lot who were around at the time say that original copies were considered a bit passe after a tune was booted or reissued, still desirable but the turn over was high, people moved onto searching for the latest sound rather than something that now deemed an oldie.
  12. Representing music from the across the spectrum of soul, funk, rhythm and blues. Jez Jones Martin Farmer Diane Naylor Andy Peake And gospel Bob.
  13. Another for the bassline initially, then those piano stabs, so atmospheric one I remember from the 80's again with those evocatively atmospheric piano chords
  14. Well said! It's getting harder to challenge these issues but it has to be done.
  15. Carl Davis! I was thinking there nobody from Chicago in there and he pops into my head https://secondhandsongs.com/artist/21034/all
  16. Little anthony- use your head, what a bassline!
  17. No this is well worthy, I'd definitely add; David porter/ Isaac Hayes, Steve cropper, Dan penn in the first instance but let me ponder this some more oh arh, and gamble and huff!
  18. It's one of my favourite albums, but was this played out?
  19. I was at the cement works, think it was called the bee gees club. Got a lift with someone to Aylesbury but only had about £1.50, after records and other essentials my return from London to buzzard wasn't valid. got a train back to London anyway, tried to pretend I was asleep but those ticket inspectors are persistent, he asked where I'd got on, last station I said, the ticket was about, £1.48, close call.
  20. I'd heard about this incident from my brother's mate's. I asked about on a previous thread, the band was slaughter and the dogs, if I remember correctly
  21. Recently re-watched Elaine's Constantine's movie, with my son. I noted the disdain the characters give to a friend who wins the dance competition. 'dance competition! It's like Butlins' they exclaim. Was this your input Paul? Was that a true sentiment from the time? I have only a few vague memories of dance competitions in the 80's, generally thinking it killed the atmosphere at nighters, but saw it as just a part of the scene.
  22. Muck fe, that's familiar! I'm now sharing your frustration,
