Or 'Skip Mahoney - Janice' at The 100 Club following Andy Rix of all people - That was hilarious, apparently Ady was grinning from ear to ear! Len.
-
Hi Mike, Yep, aint it great when an 'upfont' type D.J drops in a classic that hasn't been heard in ages? - It always sounds so good. Not just because it hasn't been heard in ages but also in contrast to the rest of the set....The D.J is also looked upon as some kind of genius! Len.
-
Win - I think mores the point; we can forget how good some of these tunes are as sometimes too busy looking forward to the next fresh tune. Len
-
I have to admit, that may have been an 'emperors new clothes' thing going on there. I was guilty of buying it for the huge sum of £20.00 in the mid 80's. I was going through that 'Latin Stage' - It did work with all the other Latin tunes though (Somehow!) Len.

Absolutely nothing! (Well, as you say - most of them) That's what makes this thread interesting - I think we are all guilty of subconsciously thinking we don't like them anymore but when reminded, we all still love em. You can never forget ya roots. I'm still not sure about this one but it was played out for a short while (Round these parts anyway!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zse4ovu15I8

I can't believe I'm putting this b*stard up - It's not on my shelf and I've never played it, honest! What the f*ck? - It must have been from back in my mod 'heady' dayz...Oh deary dear....Just ignore this post (please!) Can anyone beat this for a guilty pleasure?! Lol I know someone who's selling one though....ahem....I think this Soul Pack was a rip off! Ooooh the 'geeeeetar' bit, it's sooooooo gooooooooood..... Len 'Guilty as charged' Dopson! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpnMvcRf4zY

Told ya! - Come on!!! Len. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEZ7L0ZPKZo

Tell ya what, I've had a scream tonight...and I ain't even scratched the surface yet! Lol Pssst, strictly between me and you Russ - Nina and Sam are out tonight on one of their 'guilty pleasures'......They're seeing Barry Manilow live at The 02! - Yes, Barry Manilow! lol As I said, that's strictly between me and you Russ as they'd go mad if I told anyone else..... Len P.s - Just going through my shelves, more to follow...I assure you! lol
-
I Love 'The Sweet - Broken Heart Attack', I remember you 'holding the fort' for me when I was late for my spot the first time I D.Jed at The 100 Club Russ. I was so unsure about playing it, I asked Irish Greg if he thought everyone would know it lol, he kindly replied " I think they might" - Mind you, in my defence, it hadn't been played in a good while! Anyway, how's this b*stard?! - I remember reluctantly playing this as a request at The Ely All-nighter and could not believe how the floor got absolutely rammed to it...I found it quite unnerving as that is something I'm really not used to! lol Len
-
F*ck me - Why has this thread made me REALLY want to go out? - That's ridiculous! Can't go to The Wilton - Nina's Aunt's over from Canada (Party!) Can't go to Burnley - Our 10th Wedding anniversary (Ok, not a problem - ahem lol) Life-line it is then - Hurry up!!! Cheers Russ and the other two 'original' posters on this topic, I'm now gonna dig all my 'old sh*t off the shelves and replay them to death - Fantastic! Len. P.s - Russ - K.T.F!
-
Awful record!....What a great record to dance to?!!! lol Len. P.s - Yes Russ, sometimes I think "you had to be there" - There's no other excuse! lol
-
Wouldn't it be great to have a 'Guilty pleasures' event? As long as all D.J's didn't 'crumble' and they stuck to the script! (I couldn't find the 'Cheese' icon, it would have been the first time I'd ever used it! Oh well) Len
-
Just about mate - Crazy! Len
-
YOUR ALWAYS HAPPY GOD DAMN IT! ....Great tune though - Absolutelly fantastic to 'give it some' to! All the best, Len.
-
Can you 'Merge' the threads Chalky? I think sometimes it just depends what mood everyone's in! Is this the 3rd try at 'Guilty pleasures?...I can't believe I'm on a 'Boot' thread - Nice one Russ! Len.
-
I would have loved to have seen you 'at your prime', 'Shaking a hoof' to thisun Russ! lol - I thought you were the 'bees knees' at The 100 Club, can't imagine you in the 70's! - Great stuff! Len
-
Hi Russ, Two for me if that's ok and 'up yours' to all that gave me stick all weekend at Cleethorpes when I bought Mainchange all those years ago! (Everyone that entered our caravan had to listen to it and give their honest opinion before entering!) lol Both tunes are my earliest memories of Northern Soul All-nighters - Rob Smith playing Mainchange at Leicester and 'not sure who' playing Gypsy - Drywell at The Fleet Peterborough - Both shouldn't work...But they do for me god damn it! All the best, Len. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-9XhOF0TBY

Ref Terry and Jem, I know (as Terry said) none of it is personal; they actually share the same views on lots of things. I know Jem will gladly admit to the fact he has said on several occasions "I hate to say it but Terry's right"...But what Terry and many others have seen in the past ref Northants, is an area at logger heads. Unfortunately any feuds make all involved look bad and that results in all venues involved suffering. This I'm afraid, is the reason The Pemberton Centre couldn't attract the 300 people it required - Simply because the area wasn't 'as one' as it should be, at least for the 'greater good' (All involved are to blame and what a shame as that could have been a great venue) I think what happened in Northants in the past was really sad, pathetic, ridiculous, embarrassing and short sighted and I'm not talking about just one person or side. Thankfully, I'm pretty sure most of that is behind us now and that all venues in the area are supported or at least not sl*gged off (All flyers are welcome at any venue I'm involved in or I wouldn't be associated with it) I don't think Northants is the only place where people have 'had a war' though - War, huh, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing etc.....J Ref above (people not getting on) is this why there are sometimes too many venues in close proximity to each other or are there other reasons?.......Or is discussing this a waste of time as it's not going to change a thing?..... All the best, Len.

I'm gonna be professional and get to this 'event' early doors so I can hear what everyone else plays first....I'll post a play list in a few days I think this thread starter (allnightandy) means well by this thread and I don't think for one moment he wanted anyone to start putting their 'most expensive' records up. I do understand the comments made ref this being a chance for people to 'show off' though as unfortunately that's the world we live in now ain't it? But this thread could work if treated correctly I expect there's also another 'event' like this just down the road clashing on the same night! By the way, where's the nearest train station? All the best, Len.
-
Bet he didn't walk around the room as well whilst singing though - He can sing AND play the guitar?!!! - What a God! lol Len.
-
Great stuff - Wouldn't it be just brill if our D.J's walked around the venues singing along with their tunes? ....ok, maybe not.... Len.

How Has The Northernsoul Scene Changed Since Getting Older?
Len replied to ImberBoy's topic in All About the SOUL
Yes, that's definitely a big difference and is sometimes a negative change, as you say Win, a review 'based on your own experience' It's like that web site that has ruined some B and B business's, can't remember what it's called but one person's bad experience can put loads of people off and it may have just been down to a clash of personalities with the proprietor. Ref a review of a soul event, posting on the internet is the equivalent of - in the old days, having a bad night then immediately getting on the phone and calling 300 people to make sure they know! It's funny, I have a friend (Who I won't name) that, if he says a place is brilliant, I will make a point of not going and as soon as he says a place was sh*t, I'd do the complete opposite and make a point of going - Guaranteed the latter will be an absolutely brilliant night! lol All the best, Len. -
Well if you're ever in that 'dark place' again Dave, don't forget no matter what time of day or night it is, there will be some sad b*stard on this site you can 'link up' with...Probably me! lol All the best, Len. P.s - Are your parents going to The Mars Bar All-nighter?
-
Thanks for that Mell...um, I think I'm 'still learning' Nina wasn't impressed when I put 'Lake Placid 2' on - oops! Lol Len.

Len replied to ImberBoy's topic in All About the SOUL
Sorry youth, you're far too positive - try frowning a bit more, you'll soon get negative like the rest of us.....and you can shut up Joan (Mrs Happy!) lol .....Not sure how old you are 'Young Soulie' - But I thoroughly enjoyed using the word 'Youth', I think it's a first! All the best mate Len.
