  1. Wouldn't it be great to have a 'Guilty pleasures' event? As long as all D.J's didn't 'crumble' and they stuck to the script! (I couldn't find the 'Cheese' icon, it would have been the first time I'd ever used it! Oh well) Len
  2. Just about mate - Crazy! Len
  3. YOUR ALWAYS HAPPY GOD DAMN IT! ....Great tune though - Absolutelly fantastic to 'give it some' to! All the best, Len.
  4. Can you 'Merge' the threads Chalky? I think sometimes it just depends what mood everyone's in! Is this the 3rd try at 'Guilty pleasures?...I can't believe I'm on a 'Boot' thread - Nice one Russ! Len.
  5. I would have loved to have seen you 'at your prime', 'Shaking a hoof' to thisun Russ! lol - I thought you were the 'bees knees' at The 100 Club, can't imagine you in the 70's! - Great stuff! Len
  6. Hi Russ, Two for me if that's ok and 'up yours' to all that gave me stick all weekend at Cleethorpes when I bought Mainchange all those years ago! (Everyone that entered our caravan had to listen to it and give their honest opinion before entering!) lol Both tunes are my earliest memories of Northern Soul All-nighters - Rob Smith playing Mainchange at Leicester and 'not sure who' playing Gypsy - Drywell at The Fleet Peterborough - Both shouldn't work...But they do for me god damn it! All the best, Len. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-9XhOF0TBY
  7. Ref Terry and Jem, I know (as Terry said) none of it is personal; they actually share the same views on lots of things. I know Jem will gladly admit to the fact he has said on several occasions "I hate to say it but Terry's right"...But what Terry and many others have seen in the past ref Northants, is an area at logger heads. Unfortunately any feuds make all involved look bad and that results in all venues involved suffering. This I'm afraid, is the reason The Pemberton Centre couldn't attract the 300 people it required - Simply because the area wasn't 'as one' as it should be, at least for the 'greater good' (All involved are to blame and what a shame as that could have been a great venue) I think what happened in Northants in the past was really sad, pathetic, ridiculous, embarrassing and short sighted and I'm not talking about just one person or side. Thankfully, I'm pretty sure most of that is behind us now and that all venues in the area are supported or at least not sl*gged off (All flyers are welcome at any venue I'm involved in or I wouldn't be associated with it) I don't think Northants is the only place where people have 'had a war' though - War, huh, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing etc.....J Ref above (people not getting on) is this why there are sometimes too many venues in close proximity to each other or are there other reasons?.......Or is discussing this a waste of time as it's not going to change a thing?..... All the best, Len.
  8. I'm gonna be professional and get to this 'event' early doors so I can hear what everyone else plays first....I'll post a play list in a few days I think this thread starter (allnightandy) means well by this thread and I don't think for one moment he wanted anyone to start putting their 'most expensive' records up. I do understand the comments made ref this being a chance for people to 'show off' though as unfortunately that's the world we live in now ain't it? But this thread could work if treated correctly I expect there's also another 'event' like this just down the road clashing on the same night! By the way, where's the nearest train station? All the best, Len.
  9. Bet he didn't walk around the room as well whilst singing though - He can sing AND play the guitar?!!! - What a God! lol Len.
  10. Great stuff - Wouldn't it be just brill if our D.J's walked around the venues singing along with their tunes? ....ok, maybe not.... Len.
  11. Yes, that's definitely a big difference and is sometimes a negative change, as you say Win, a review 'based on your own experience' It's like that web site that has ruined some B and B business's, can't remember what it's called but one person's bad experience can put loads of people off and it may have just been down to a clash of personalities with the proprietor. Ref a review of a soul event, posting on the internet is the equivalent of - in the old days, having a bad night then immediately getting on the phone and calling 300 people to make sure they know! It's funny, I have a friend (Who I won't name) that, if he says a place is brilliant, I will make a point of not going and as soon as he says a place was sh*t, I'd do the complete opposite and make a point of going - Guaranteed the latter will be an absolutely brilliant night! lol All the best, Len.
  12. Well if you're ever in that 'dark place' again Dave, don't forget no matter what time of day or night it is, there will be some sad b*stard on this site you can 'link up' with...Probably me! lol All the best, Len. P.s - Are your parents going to The Mars Bar All-nighter?
  13. Thanks for that Mell...um, I think I'm 'still learning' Nina wasn't impressed when I put 'Lake Placid 2' on - oops! Lol Len.
  14. Sorry youth, you're far too positive - try frowning a bit more, you'll soon get negative like the rest of us.....and you can shut up Joan (Mrs Happy!) lol .....Not sure how old you are 'Young Soulie' - But I thoroughly enjoyed using the word 'Youth', I think it's a first! All the best mate Len.
  15. Well, I've just had a wholesome family weekend......Jeeeeese! God give me strength!!! Blo*dy kids! - They're sooo Childish!!! When's the next nighter? - I need a rest! To anybody else 'out there' who has gone 'N'WOL ('Normal' without leave) from the scene - How do you cope?! Surely you must be longing for a soulful 'release'?!.... Len. N.B -It did have some high points really, snuggling up on the sofa with my three year old daughter watching 'The Wizard of Oz' (For the 15th time!) Closely followed by 'Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory' while it was piddling down outside.
  16. P.s - Nothing wrong with being a 'snob' mate - You're just trying to keep standards up really, that's all. Len.
  17. I think the dancing has got a little slower as well....Also I'm pretty sure there's a lot less hair about! lol All the best, Len
  18. The f*ckin' internet! - Ruined it as far as I'm concerned! Anyone can buy a record off 'e' bay. Like all of society - Anything is accessible now at the touch of a button as long as you can afford it! - No soul in that! All the best, Len. P.s - There are positives ref the internet of course (Ahem) Soul-source has been brilliant for info and keeping us all in touch.
  19. 'Crying Clown' - Mid-tempo (I also mentioned that btw) 'The Drifter' - Ballad. Chalky's right though, a lot are Midtempo and the topic starter asked about Ballads. Len. P.s - Joan, there is a call for the slower tempo....you just can't hear me calling over all the blo*dy loud stompers that are being played!
  20. - So true! Has anyone heard of 'Prog Northern'? - It's the future I tell you! I can't wait for 'Northern - The Concept Album'!!! lol This is nice by the way, All the best, Len.
  21. I think discussing what we label types of music would be another thread and by the end, still wouldn't make any sense! - I'm still convinced 'Popcorn' has just recently been made up by someone! lol. Len.
  22. That's in between the two Joan....um...Crossover?......Gawd ain't it confusing sometimes?! Len.
  23. Hi Harry, We met briefly at Soul Essence (I was with Gouch) Sorry to hear you unfortunately may not have the choice soon, it's a reminder that we're all lucky to have that choice. What your friend said is so true, I was chatting to Gary Holyman yesterday and he said he sometimes 'falls out with soul' but very soon after, gets 'withdrawal symptoms' Isn't it amazing that music can have that effect on us? Len.
