  1. Mr Dopson......Oh actually it's Mr Dobson......Sooooo close All the best, Len 'D'
  2. - Great ender though, it just needs one of the Top Jocks to take a chance on it All the best, Len
  3. I just did a You Tube search for this and couldn't find a sound clip - This popped up instead! Great Mid-tempo Sorry guyz, I just cried with laughter - Was this played anywhere? Mmmmmm All the best, Len
  4. I'm not quite there yet, but I am finding I can handle it a bit easier than I used to.........People have got to know me now, so have stopped throwing things All the best, Len
  5. ...Or I stand corrected .....I was answering from my experience. All the best, Len
  6. As a complete guess, I would say 2005 onwards - But that's just a guess, others may say different. I'm not saying it didn't happen before then, but if it did it was a shock. I remember Dave Flemming coming up to me at The Embankment Club to let me know that one of the D.J's was playing a pressing of something he was going to play, I was shocked and a bit embarrassed - He was ok with it, as it was also a shock to him. There was no need to 'check' in those days you see, I just presumed the man in question played by the rules - Well I didn't even presume, I didn't give it a second thought. All the best, Len
  7. This came up a couple of years back, and I can categorically say Winston Heath coined the phrase. It was on a thread that kept repeating ‘Original Vinyl Only’, so on Winston’s next post he stated it like this - “Original Vinyl Only (O.V.O)” Then everyone ‘adopted’ it from there… ..... I have searched for the said thread, but to no avail I’m afraid. But thinking about it — It must have been the ‘Original, ‘Original Vinyl Only’ thread! Well done Winston As far as the actual policy for events goes, it was just one of the ‘unwritten rules’, the ‘norm’ if you like, it simply wasn’t an issue until quite recently. All the best, Len
  8. Is 're-activating' records ok on this thread? - I haven't heard this 'out' for years. This was also out on two labels - First release was on Baby Luv, second release on Era, still both originals, the Baby Luv one being the rarest. 'Othello Robinson - So In Love' Fantastic tune, I'd like to hear again in 2013. All the best, Len
  9. Great tune as is 'So Rare' on the same L.P - Would love to hear both 'out' lots more. Sorry, I couldn't find a clip of 'So Rare' All the best, Len P.s - I managed to completely clear the floor to 'Take A Stand' at The Pemberton Centre lol
  10. You haven't bought the 'wrong one' - They are both originals! It also came out on the British Action label. It's amazing that this record hasn't been massive, then died down, got massive again etc over the years, like for example 'The Exits - You've Got To Have Money' isn't it? All the best, Len
  11. Hi Boba, Yes, Mary Wells is the original and it's an L.P only track......If I'd heard the Mary Wells first, I'd be shouting about the Patti Drew! - You know how it is. Both are great. All the best, Len
  12. Maybe one more, not sure if this will be masssive though - It's 'massive' in my record room at least. Verble Domino - Faded Memory All the best, Len
  13. Ok, one more from me, I'll be playing it at 'The Den' next Saturday in Rushden (May speed it up very slightly) 'Mary Wells - He's The One I love' (Same record as Patti Drew) All the best, Len https://www.youtube....h?v=5DrUebUlsiQ
  14. Here's another that should have gone absolutely massive by now, I had it covered up for a while (For a bit of fun!) I suppose ‘September Jones - I'm Coming Home' took 'Centre Stage' over it, but this is so powerful 'BILLY SHA-RAE - DO IT' All the best, Len https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCtFOiTrH6Y
  15. Shant! Nice one All the best, Len
  16. Blimey, that's a 100 Club record if I ever heard one mate! All the best, Len
  17. Brilliant, ain't it nice when that happens? - You've more than likely got most of my 'plays' but don't realise as yet, I've always been an 'other sider' - Trying my bestest to be 'cutting edge' All the best, Len
  18. Oh, ok then Sean; you’ve talked me into it.... My sound for 2013 is this, ‘Billy Stewart - Count Me Out — Chess’ I'd be very surprised if this hasn't had an 'airing' at some venues before, but I haven't heard it out or at least I don't remember anyway - Out of interest, please let me know if someone else has 'championed' this and where they played it, I’d guess Bretby would be a good contender. All the best, Len
  19. They'll catch up one day Great record. All the best, Len
  20. I recon this was a bargain (I.M.H.O) of course! All the best, Len
  21. Well there's the 'same ol, same ol' or the 'same new, same new' and not forgetting the ‘overplayed, underplayed' ..... ....I wouldn't give it too much thought mate, just try and make the most of where you do go - I tend not to analyse things too much The 'Public' do get what the 'Public' want, unfortunately it's not what I want..... All the best, Len
  22. You don't need to explain yourself Ralph, it can't 'happen' for every D.J all of the time - If it did we'd soon moan because we would have nothing to moan about! All the best, Len
  23. Another time (again at The Embankment Club) I had someone come up to me and tell me they were going to smack Butch in the face because they went to ask him to play some oldies, and he simply replied “No” and turned his back on them! — A panic overcame me, and I had too heartily agree with the person in question, saying “Leave it to me mate, I’ll have a f*ckin word, you’ve paid ya money, I’m in charge” etc, etc …..Then of course not doing a thing…. All the best, Len
  24. Hi Ralph, Thanks for responding and I hope you don’t mind me bringing Lutterworth in as an example. I was simply demonstrating that sometimes everything doesn’t go right, this is why I said in my earlier post “I think this set of circumstances was just ‘one of those things’ and not to be picked apart” Let’s be fair here - You have always promoted Lutterworth as somewhere that won’t make too much compromise, so really it did do ‘what it said on the tin’ Maybe some folk wanted it slightly different that night, that’s all. Years ago, I had a night at The Embankment Club entitled ‘Albrighton Comes To Wellingborough’, long story, but it didn’t work and I had a f*ckin’ nightmare explaining to loads of people that the reason I put ‘Albrighton Comes To Wellingborough’ on the flyer was because the theme of the night was ‘Albrighton Comes To Wellingborough’ FFS! — A crowd of people walked across the (empty) dance floor to my table with their coats on and said “We didn’t travel all this way from Bedfordshire to hear this Sh*t” and went home……Nice…… ….My mistake was not seeing that I was one of only a few from Northants that travelled at that time, so lots of my regulars would never have heard of Albrighton……But I did put it on the flyer! — It wasn’t all bad, in fact this was all in the first half of the night, the night ended fine and Chris Anderton had a very busy dance floor — But, the negatives is what I will remember which is a shame. …..I hope that has deflected things away from your event a little mate All the best, Len
  25. I think what the original poster meant by people accusing D.J’s of ‘Playing for themselves’ is when someone thinks the D.J isn’t interested in sharing the enjoyment he gets from his choice of tunes or even cares if people are enjoying them — To me, this is just yet another Northern Soul ‘Urban Myth’ anyway. The other take on D.J’s playing for themselves is of course the correct one — This is when they play their own choice / taste of tunes and hope others enjoy them too. All the best, Len P.s - Enjoy your retirement Jocko, but I will try and tempt you out of it once in a while Heck, the venue is at a Bowls Club after all
