  1. ....and in addition.....I take offence at 'Mid-tempo Tosh' (Obviously) All the best, Len P.s - At 'The Den' I played 8 'Midtempo Magic' (Which I prefer to call them) records to not just a packed room, but a packed dance floor.....I really should have taken a photo (that had sound)....
  2. I knew what you meant Barry......As for the rest? All I can say is - How many times have you lost the remotes? - It’s sooooo annoying, especially when you end up finding them right next to you after all!..... .....Now, that's cryptic! All the best, Len
  3. Yes, once you can’t smell the sweaty socks of the people dancing to your records, you’ve lost touch - Adam has never done that..... .....I know what I mean Len
  4. Well done Len
  5. Brilliant - Not forgetting 'Atlantic Star - Circles' of course. Cheers, Len
  6. Didn't you all back then?! lol Everytime Nina and I watch one of the many documentry's that feature Keb Darge, like clock work Nina always says "Look, Keb with hair!" - Brilliant! Len
  7. Hi Kev, 82' - You beat me Kev, I was only 12 then and not even aware full stop! Yes, Nige knows his stuff, and has got some awesome tunz himself. All the best, Len (You should do Modern Kev, it's not that bad honest mate) Dopson
  8. Is Marc Farley the dark haired guy who used to run Morecombe Pier? - This info is only going by my Black and White 'Archive' Video tapes All the best, Len
  9. Hi Neil, The first time I saw Adam D.J, he was doing a true ‘Adam set' - ‘Doug Parkinson — I’ll Be Around’, ‘Skip Mahoney — Janice’, 'The Dells - Your Song’, it absolutely blew me away at that time — Fantastic stuff! Len 'The Dells — Your Song’
  10. Well I like him already! If one day I actually get to meet this here Rob Marriot, apart from thanking him for the tapes I indirectly acquired which have influenced my music taste immensely, I’ll ask to meet his older brother - No, I’ll ask to meet his whole family as it seems to me that they are of good stock! All the best, Len
  11. Yes Tats - Great Ol' Boy! What's his history? As in, was he a regular D.J at one particular club? I know he's still doing 'the rounds' everywhere and was kind enough to D.J at my 40th which I really appreciated. Len
  12. Come to think of it, there were a couple of girls who danced in front of the stage at The Fleet, Peterborough who also danced in unison, they wore tennis skirts which was something a teenage boy like me noticed!....... ......I’m talking about the fact they danced in unison of course lol - this would have been the late 80’s, so maybe different girls. ‘Soul People Of Interest’ to me anyway! Len
  13. He was pretty much the main man in most Modern Rooms for years, but those rooms got replaced with R 'n' B or 'alternative' rooms mainly, which I think is a shame because it strengthened the divide between Oldies and lesser known stuff, when they should all be played in the same room (Just my 'Off Topic' opinion) Len P.s - I'm now on a differnt computer and can only do '' for some reason!
  14. Can anyone comment about what part Adam played as far as Stafford goes? I'm guessing he played stuff like 'Rumours' etc there. All the best, Len
  15. Fantastic - Now that is a 'Soul Person Of Interest!'....."Have you met the wife?" All the best, Len
  16. Hi Joan, Um, I'm confused now (It don't take much!)......I'll go and read the opening post again................................................................................................... ...............................................Right, yes....No, hang on...............................................................Yes, that's it - The thread can be about people who have influenced you, which would go hand in hand with 'People of Interest' really - You would hope so anyway! No need to apologise Joan All the best, Len
  17. Hi Ed, I don't know Chris Marriot or Dave Molly - Who are they? / What did they do? / Where did they play? / What tunes did they play? etc. All the best, Len
  18. Who? Yes, I knew Shifty when he was an apprentice - I've always said he'd have spoilers on his record box if he could, bless him All the best, Len
  19. Yes, I admire anyone who 'goes against the grain' sticking to what they believe in. All the best, Len
  20. As I've said before, I've never met Rob Marriot, but know him and people like him have heavily influenced my taste - So you have them to thank! I don't know of Ady Harley or Glyn Reardon - I thought I knew of most influentual people on the scene, are these well known or 'Under The Radar' 'heros'? All the best, Len P.s - Ref your 'Messy' line - I like Rob Marriot and don't even know him?!!!
  21. Yes, I don't want this to be a 'back slapping' exercise, It’s just that I and others weren’t there to see, for instance, my example Adam when he was breaking new ground, and it’s nice for us to hear from people who were there. All the best, Len
  22. ‘Soul People of Interest’ Hi Folks, I was playing a few 70’s tunes at home the other evening and it reminded me of a time when I was a young lad just getting into the Scene, seeing Adam Buchanan as one of my hero’s as some of you guyz would have looked upon the likes of Richard Searling (or whoever) I don’t see Adam's name about as much nowadays, but thought it would be nice if anyone else can remember how ground breaking he was back then. I never went to Leicester Odd Fellows, so it would be good to hear what he meant to people who did see him ‘in action’ there, and other places such as Stafford of course. Now we’re ‘all grown up’ Adam and I can laugh about my ‘hero worship’ of him. Years later, he was D.Jing at me and Nina’s wedding and he played ‘Shaft’ as we were cutting the cake - Great stuff! I find it interesting to hear what people have done to help form the tapestry of the Scene, you may want to put other names forward for discussion, but please keep it kind folks -”If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say nothing at all”.... ….So, in the words of Barry ‘The Thread Starter’ - Discuss! All the best, Len P.s - Photo's would be a welcome addition to the Topic.
  23. Don't close it mate - The thing is, of course some topics will be repeated because some people may have missed it the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or whatever time round, but while people are contributing, it's not hurting anyone....mostly anyway! People need encouraging to open up discussions, not put off just in case it may have been done before. If you missed a topic, so what, have a chat with someone else about the subject (All except the 'you know what' subject) I love Crossover!......If Crossover is what I think it is - Monotonous and goes absolutely nowhere - GREAT! A D.J's job is.......b*gger I forgot again! All the best, Len
  24. Or an 'OpooO' Thead! Sorry - Not very constructive....Ummmmm, I'm still trying to find out what a D.J's responsibility is..... Len
  25. Yes, I’ve said this before — The people who are at the top of their game are usually the nicest, most unassuming people you could ever meet. I think (know) some people judge them by their own standards and presume they are ‘up themselves’ — That, they are not! Example 1 — Butch at The 100 Club came over to ‘our side’ (just the once!) and says to Nina “Lenny’s after a record, but I have to say, it would help if he knew what it was called or at least who it was by” …..(No ridicule whatsoever) Example 2 — 100 Club (again) Sitting next to Keb Darge (Yes, me next to Keb!) lol Someone was playing ‘Love is Serious Business’ me (a bit blocked) “Keb, have you heard the 12” of this?”…..he replied “No”…..Me, realising what a mundane thing to say, quick as a flash said “Mmmmm, well it’s like this, only it goes on a bit longer”….”Oh, I’m glad you shared that with me” he replied (Both seeing the funny side) My point being, a lesser person would have ridiculed me for such nonsense, but he knew what place I was in and it really was hilarious! Dean, was on the list anyway, hence my ‘et al’ …If anyone would like a copy of the full ‘Lenny List’ you can ‘e’ mail me at len@lowercaseyesthatsalllowercase.com and I’ll be happy to oblige! One of ‘the characters’ of the scene I will always remember is Mad Mick from Burton, not that he would remember me if he were alive today but there are reasons why we remember such characters. These are just a sample of the things that have made my personal journey special to me. All the best, Len P.s — I won’t go into the ‘Forgetful’ conversation I had with Russ ‘The Knowledge’ Vickers at Life-line…..but it’s these moments…… P.p.s - Steve Smith — On the list mate (The Stoppers) ....If you are the Gloucester / Kettering Steve Smith that is!
