  1. Not forgetting Ady Croasdell. Discovering records is a separate thing to breaking them, although this is often 'hand in hand' of course (Discovered and broken by the same person) Len
  2. Lots of us do care, and are very interested in who discovered what / who did the hard work of breaking what. But there are also lots (like Steve) who are not so interested. I remember a quote someone said a while back......."I've been doing this for over 40 years, never learnt a thing!"....... Len
  3. I know exactly what you mean, and heartily agree ref 'me, myself and I through the tinternet' - It's stomach churning at times, it really is. I can see how what Sean states shown in your above post could come across as maybe a bit of a 'brag', but in this case, Sean is relaying an achievement he is proud of (not bragging about it) I suppose because there's so much self promotion that goes on via the internet, that in itself stops genuine people daring to state anything they are proud to have done. Len
  4. Sean is a modest fella, and wouldn't for one moment knowingly take credit for someone else's discovery / or hijack someone else's record that they happen to be championing at any given time (Which does often happen) Quote off the article from Sean......"although I’ve djed over 30 years nearly all the records have always been spun by somebody else"..... Sean's just picked up on this particular record at a different time, and to be fair, it seems he has broken it to different audiences, of whom associate him with it - Sean being the first person they have heard play it. That said, I also like facts to be correct, and I'm sure Sean does too. All the best, Len
  5. Yes. Always loved the other side - 'Melinda Marx - It Happens In The Same Old Way' Len
  6. 143 If I was the 3rd DJ on and they have played 30 of my tunes - I would have a hard think as to why I was DJing full stop All the best, Len
  7. I can't understand anyone selling them full stop. An event such as The 100 Club 40th Anniversary is something that will never be repeated (Hence the prices I suppose) Nina and I would get one each when we went to the anniversary's, so sometimes we would give one away to friends - No regrets as they went to good homes. Len
  8. Just listening to the show. It's really moving, and a lovely tribute - Thanks. My heart goes out to everyone who knew John - His family should be very proud. Len.
  9. I don't think there's a collection in the land without a record sleeve with 'Soul Bowl' stated on it. I fondly remember going through soul packs, putting them in my different stacks, and even up to today I still re-visit records I filed that now sound brilliant, which back then I 'shelved' and forgot about. RIP John Anderson. Len.
  10. I met Sean on The 100 Club dance floor - My first time there. I was 'ok', but knew I was honored to be there (if that makes sense) Sean must have sensed something because he picked me up and span me around whilst giving me a massive kiss on the lips! How weird you might say - But it made me feel welcome. Like I said, the music is the best, as is the team that puts it all together for us, along with such an iconic venue. But in addition to that are the many attendees who help make that 'magic' happen - A perfect storm Nostalgia is a strange yet pleasant thing - I can't image how Ady must feel looking back over 40 years of The 100 Club (Let alone his 25 years of running The Cleethorpe's weekender) Happy memories indeed. He is also looking forward for future generations which must also be applauded. Len
  11. A great article, that sums it all up perfectly. I wasn’t going to comment as too much to say, but I just stopped welding and walked back in to my office muttering to myself that I have to write something. So many people are truly grateful for their individual memories of The 100 Club - The music, the faces, friends, husbands, wives, and even children! At our wedding I remember Ady smiling and saying to Nina’s mum……”It’s my fault”….. I’ll keep it short as I’m sure many will want to add their comments. I must just mention the legend that is Sean Adams (100 Club member Number 1) He was one of many attendees who added so much to the ‘magic’ that is The 100 Club. Thank you! Len ‘n’ Nina.
  12. Yes deep condolences Dave. My Dad passed away 4 years ago, and I have mentioned him a few times in my posts on here recently. Up until then, I hadn't really spoken about the subject, and when I did mention to various people about my loss, they shared their stories. I don't think you ever completely get over losing your parents, but learn to live with it, and cherish those fond memories. The day of my Dad's funeral was the proudest day of my life - All these people I remembered from my childhood turned up. I cried like a baby from start to finish, well until because it was such a hot day and the room was packed a woman fainted - Queue my older sister......."That'll be the other woman"...... For a while I've been thinking whether it would be an idea to start a thread on here for people to share their stories / memories of their parents - I think it would be nice. All the best, Len
  13. Hi Steve, There's an old thread - I think some names are still missing! (This is ref the DJ dance competition) All the best, Len
  14. I used to think that, but my experience of selling a few to pay for a holiday (rather than for feeding the kids as it were) was very liberating. So, choosing to sell to spend the money on something nice is something I don't think many would regret. Good luck with your sales Ian. All the best, Len
  15. Jeeeze. I sold mine for £1,200.00 not long back, and this was after the buyer suggested "between £1,200.00 and £1,500.00" - I didn't have the heart to take the latter! I'll stick to welding to make my money Len
  16. I had heard of 'Slayer', but not 'Tool'. Although my Son is only just 13, he said an interesting thing with ref to our scene - He said that it hadn't evolved, yet his music was constantly evolving (I know this could be argued to a point) But if you compare the metal type music of the early days to today with the likes of 'SlipKnot', they are very different, but still the same genre. There are loads of new bands they were talking about / giving each other recommendations to listen to, so it seems this 'racket' will go on forever (man) Oh god what's happening to me?!!! Len
  17. I agree - It's interesting to read people's views on this. Some people I know can't comprehend how on earth other people can feel the same about music other than soul, such is their passion. It's understandable though. Len
  18. I tell you what - When I first 'hit the main arena' (as they say) I thought what a racket! But by the end of the weekend I even had a head bang myself (Don't tell the others I said that) Albeit with ear plugs in (God I am old) I wholeheartedly take your point about not brow beating him in to being a soulie - He has to do his own thing (Fine had it been soul of course) I asked him what he would do with my records once I'm gone. He answered....."I'm going to keep them because they will remind me of you Dad"....... Ok, so maybe he was saying something to please me, and in reality will sell the day after I'm gone - But it was sweet to hear Len
  19. Ok, so I'm just back from an amazing adventure that was 'The Download Festival'.....In ref to this thread, I'd like to think the people I witnessed over this trip do get something similar to us from there 'thing' as we do of ours. I wouldn't go as far as to say they get the 'goose bumps' (as mentioned earlier) of emotion, but they do get the excitement. I'm soooo not a 'metal head', in fact I freely admitted I was a 'plastic' to everyone I met over the weekend (in the hope that me saying so somehow saved me from being one) Suffice to say - I was the embarrassing Dad. And this little story proves that (more than I like actually).........Bailey and I were walking back to our tent after seeing a band called 'Slayer' who had just finished their last ever UK concert (Which was a big deal) A security man asked me about the headline act 'Tool' who were on the main stage...."Mate, are the headline act using cartoons in their graphics?".....(I replied, but by this point of the weekend I was extremely tired)......."I dunno, we were at the other stage watching Slade"......(Queue Bailey)......."Slayer Dad! Slayer!".....All this in front a load of metal heads, who incidentally were falling about laughing - OOOPS!......"Really?".......(I tried to save)......."I thought they sounded different"......Off I and a well and truly embarrassed Bailey marched I think I will stick to soul, but it was good to see others enjoying their thing (As well as a great adventure with my Son) 'Embarrassing Dad' 'Their Camp Site' 'Our Camp Site'....Thank the lord I chose the 'Quiet Camp Site!' 'Bailey with some Metal Heads' 'Bailey hopefully getting something similar to what we feel'
  20. Congratulations Richard - As has been said, it's great to have good news such as this. One day I'd like to walk down Oxford Street and see one of those historical Blue plaques on the wall of The 100 Club with Ady's name on it, stating how many years the All-nighters ran for - Hopefully it will be something I see when I'm an old man 'cause it that ain't time yet Len
  21. I do - Seeing my parents in an amateur dramatization of 'The Sound Of Music' was absolute torture that seemed to go on for ever! (Bless em) At the (what I thought) was the end....."Phew, that went on a bit, let's go Nina"........."Len, it's only the interval, the Germans haven't arrived yet!"........"Oh god!" Len
  22. Crumbs is it 5 years?! I thought 'Northern Soul' was a good film, yes some bits / tunes were wrong, but that's just poetic licence, so didn't bother me in the slightest. Elaine may not have been there in the early 70's, but loads of films, period dramas etc are done on the back of research only. At least she had people around her who did experience it to get first hand knowledge from, albeit only their own personal experiences. Before it came out, I thought that to make even a half decent film about it all was impossible - I didn't particularly like the story line of the two lads wanting to be DJs because that is a nowadays 'disease' (Hardly any of the punters thought about DJing back then) but of course they had to have a story line - The finished product was a very good effort, and I don't think anyone else could have done a better job. Has the film effected the scene? Not much I don't think, maybe making a few young people aware of it, but that's about it - I think the young people on the scene today were introduced to it by their parents, then passed to friends. My Son (Bailey) says our scene is extinct - I say not quite Len
  23. True - In this case it's more like lad taking dad though We were all a lot more independent / worldly confident at that age than kids are nowadays weren't we? So many of us have told our parents we were staying at a mates and visa versa, and gone off 'in to the night'. Here's Bailey. Remember some time in the future - You saw him here first! Len
  24. I'm glad you said that - Not least because I am taking (enduring!) my 13 year old Son (Bailey) to The Download Festival to see his fave band 'SlipKnot'. Two years ago we bought Bailey an electric guitar, and he plays it every day from the moment he comes home from School, and looks up guitar stuff on You tube every morning. Although I can't feel it with his music, it is great to see his passion, and his obsession with it. Btw, we never had computer games in the house, and believe he is so much the better for it - He is one of few young people who can actually communicate face to face (He doesn't shut up sometimes!) I also never felt sorry for 'the outsiders', just kinda superior when I used to leave home near on midnight as they were all coming home (with their kebabs) Len
  25. The Fleet Peterborough 1985 (Maybe 86) 'The New Wanderers - This Man In Love' & 'The Lucky Charms - Tied To Your Heart' I remember wondering why all these people were chewing gum Len
