  1. Show off Hope ya well mate Len
  2. This isn't aimed at you 'Soul Trafford', but I think some simply 'judge others by their own standards'. All these 'ego's' must be blo*dy huge if promoting gives them that 'fix' because in the main, promoting is an absolute thankless task - Anyone that does it for that reason would soon get bored surely. All the best, Len
  3. The only way any friction will ever be avoided, is the day people realise that if a certain kind of event is already catered for, there's absolutely no point in putting another one on in the vicinity - be it the same night or not. Please let me know when that happens, and I will put my umbrella up to avoid the Pig droppings All the best, Len
  4. "Numbers were low" - Is the worse way anyone can ever start a 'look backs' post. It's best not to mention it at all, and focus on other aspects of the night. Mentioning that will put people off visiting the event. .....Hang on, I'm giving all my 'promoting secrets' away here All the best, Len
  5. I've had people 'pop' to venues I've run just to give out flyers many times in the past, and it didn't really bother me. They paid the entrance fee, and if they went home early then it was their loss. I did notice though, but just thought it a bit odd / cheeky, none were going to affect my event, so I had no reason to stop them doing it. To 'defend the practise' though, I would fully understand someone refusing flyers that were of a 'rivals' night - When I say 'rivals' I mean someone unnecessarily putting on another night that has a direct effect on the event / future events in question. There's a lot of it about and a bit of standing up for one’s venue is understandable. If it’s simply money orientated, I'm not impressed - If it's a genuine 'soul' sticking up for their event, then power to em. All the best, Len
  6. F*ckin’ ‘ell, you’re brave…..I RESPECT YOUR HONESTY….so much better than the frauds that are amongst us mate - I hope your venue goes from strength to strength. All the best, Len
  7. ......because they're only interested in themselves / their event.....(As you know) ‘For the record’ if anyone ‘out there’ has any doubts about me - ‘Not guilty your honour’ - From next year I’m giving up promoting, because I’m fed up with having to ‘compete’ with all these events. Shame really, because I’m pretty good at it - I'll put any 'efforts' I have left in me into supporting and 'spreading the word' about events that I believe in. All the best, Len P.s - After my 'Northern Soul Gap Year'.......
  8. I've sinse had a P.M from John (The thread starter) and know what event he is refering to, so to answer the original question - I think it's because your event isn't a 'run of the mill' soul event. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think it's more of a 'town' event, so the records you have named are most probably unfamiliar to your clientele that's all. As Brian pointed out, no matter how good a record is, some folk won't dance if they don't know it - depends where you go really. If ya clear the floor, don't have a panic attack mate All the best, Len
  9. I know what you mean ref 'liberty takers'......I also know what you mean ref you being 'awkward', people don't wanna be told Terry - truth can hurt folk! This may sound silly to some, but the word 'etiquette' yet again comes to mind. When I was a regular 'flyer putter outer' I always used to ask whoever was on the door at an event if it was ok if I put em out. One time the bouncer went to find the promoter to get his permision, which was fine. Later I learnt that they weren't letting people flyer the place if it was for an event within a certian distance radius - Which I thought a good idea, as it may have prevented too many events in close proximity to each other. This was years ago - That's out of the window now big time! (As is a lot of things) All the best, Len
  10. That's the 'thing' - It is working well, but for me I only look at events I know about. Before 'something' made me click on events I wasn't aware of. Mike, the poll would be to see what percentage of members have an issue with it, but yes you're right in sayng that if it went back to the old system we would have old issues back, such as 'bumping' threads - I didn't like that particular problem, but maybe it was just that 'problem' that drew my attention to other events. In hindsight - Yes 'Bumping' threads did go on, but that was to compete with the events that didn't need 'Bumping', and those events are the ones I used to get drawn to because people were commenting on them, so were highlighted. All the best, Len
  11. Something (not sure what) is stopping me click on any events that I don't know about, whereas on the old system I was often reading events threads that I had never heard of. I suggest your next poll question to be 'Do you think the old 'Events' system was - a) Better b) Worse c) Just as good. I feel for you on this one Mike because I know at 'your end' it's working fine, but for me and it seems many others, it's not - and I still can't put my finger on why either! Just a suggestion. All the best, Len
  12. Yes, one of many 'musts' that make a successful promotion....and if the 'product' is good, the customer base will grow because of repeat business.......I'm getting a bit carried away there - But it's true. There are so many minor factions that equate to a good promotion, not all are nessersary but no one knows which ones 'have an effect', so all must be done, and the 'before and after' reports are such obvious ones to do. All the best, Len
  13. Not so sure about 'Doc' - As I said, I would automaticaly read posts made by people I respect........ ....You know I'm joking mate! Len
  14. .....So just to be clear Joan - Do you like the new system or not? All the best, Len
  15. I'm 'well' aware....but I'm getting to enjoy that fact - It must be a 'pleasure / pain' kinda thang .....'tis a dangerious game mind, especially when one is playing with someone that is 'dead from the neck up'....which has happened on occasion ....By the time you read this...etc.... All the best, Len
  16. Ahem! - No it's not, it's because they are good and fill the floor - if played correctly!......(speeded up lol) All the best, Len P.s - Ok, you may have a point, but 'I'm not listening'
  17. I actually can't put my finger on why the new system is worse (It's not sh*t Mike) But for some reason you now only visit the events threads you know about anyway, whereas the old system, somehow 'drew you in' to events that you were unaware of. Maybe it was to do with what 'Doc' touched apon, that if say on the front page Mr / Mrs 'Someone I knew / heard of / respected' had quoted something, I would automaticaly want to read what it was, thus making you aware of a venue. Len
  18. Genuine consensus - It's now sh*t Mike - Change it back ...and for the benefit of this strange two dimensional world - That was me being facetious for the sake of it. I do hope you have a sense of humour in there somewhere Mike....I await my second warning.... All the best, Len
  19. ...and a very good read it was to - Well done "With the old system, if people i respected were talking about new nights I'd be sure to try it out" - That's a very good point, it gave a venue a 'seal of approval' and was worth over a ton of the b*llshit put on threads by some - I also take notice as you have described, but never actualy achknowledged that fact until you did just that (if that makes sense) Ref your 'last point' - Yes, it's the effect of 'over kill'.....but 'a level' will be found just as soon as the folk that do it for the wrong reasons (glory / 'The lights and the applause') don't get that 'fix' and get bored - as the realisation sets, that the 'real' Soul Scene 'don't get fooled'........It's not long now my friend..... All the best, Len
  20. Ooooo, you really should do, 'tis much fun...Just set your alarm clock for really early in the morning so you can edit before anyone sees - Oh the 'Cyber shame' - It can be unbearable at times! .....But ya keep 'coming back for more' - "For more baby" (Just 'keeping it real' there) Hope ya well mate. Len .....I'll now read the rest of your post
  21. Yes, that figures.....'Welcome to Northants - Rose of the Shires' Just kidding mate, we're all friends on here (honest) I'll reply your P.M now. All the best, Len
  22. I've heard of 'Overplayed, under played' records (at 'underplayed' nights)....But never the term 'Underplayed overplayed' records...I think I like it Len
  23. Yeh, The Plague was also infectious.......awful record in my book......but at least it cleared the floor which shows you can D.J..... ,,,,Confused? - You will be Len Actually, 'strike that' it's not a bad record, for some reason I was thinking of 'Saxie Russell - Psychedelic Soul' Hey ho - I expect I'm not the only one who's done that...ahem.....
