  1. I hope not, I've been one of the 'youngsters' on the scene for years.......and I'm waiting to have 'all' of the records! All the best, Len P.s - If this film takes any longer, the people in it will be too old to play their parts!
  2. I said 'eat some Porridge' Sooty! x
  3. ....You may wanna read post number 2 Steve Len
  4. "I beg your pardon Squire?" L
  5. ...It already is - catch up! Everyone keeps asking for 'something different', so there you have it - That's why we go! All the best, Len
  6. ....Why, didn't my first spot?! See ya soon mate Len
  7. Not enough though - There are lots of people 'waiting in the shadows' for this to 'happen' ....Actually, I think it is 'gradually' turning believe it or not - we're 'making steps' round our way. I really should write something 'on topic' - I would like to see Val Chandler 'released' on some major venues, great taste and one of the crowd that influenced me when I started out (Trev, Cliff etc) in a distant kinda way. I wouldn't have dared to speak to them back then - The way it should be! - Trev and Val did the early spots at 'SILKS' - Fantastic tunz. I know some think Roger Banks is an 'R 'n' B' only man, but he ain't. He can do some really soulful sets - great with the mike too ....Actually he's still D.Jing a lot, I haven't seen him in ages that's all - Worth a mention though (well, it would have been if he didn't D.J anymore ) All the best, Len
  8. 'Nowt' (how am I doing Chalky? ).....wrong in standing on a box when D.Jing! - Mind you if I didn't, at least I'd miss the tumbleweed 'slowly tumbling by' All the best, Len
  9. Eat some Porridge mate All the best, Len
  10. Mmmmm, I’m actually finding this thread more interesting by the minute….. So here goes with two more peneth from me…… Nev, Chalky is what they call a ‘Proud Yorkshire Man’, he calls a ‘Spade a Spade’, and ‘says it how it is’…….we down south call that rude He’s actually quite ‘cuddly’ in real life Chalky, “ey up, thar knows what thar can do dunt yer”…..probably upsets some of us ‘Southern Softies’….We don’t even know what ‘Thar’ means! …..and that’s the difference between ‘North’ and 'South’ All the best, Len P.s - If Nev is from 'The North' please don't anyone mention it!
  11. .......I don't know what you mean Barry.........Mmmmmm, or is that your real name? Right, I best spend some time with the family - Have a good weekend folkz. All the best, Len
  12. Arrr, I think you mean it went a bit 'bristly', or at least had the risk of going that way (fair point, if it came across to you like that, but I was ok with it) Ref your 'were's - They were correct actually mate - I also don't have a degree in English and even if I did, I would never pick up on something so personal as people’s grammar, that would be ignorant. Some people may not be that articulate, but as long as they manage to get their point across, it doesn't matter a dot. I highlighted them as a 'past tense' to make my point that's all. As you can probably tell, I really enjoy writing, and I actually find it easier to express myself though it better than in conversation. One thing good about this internet business, is that we get to chat to people that more than likely we would never have met, and (in most cases) get to know them that little bit better.....Or at least get 'an impression' of who we are talking to......One can be disappointed or surprised when you meet someone you've chatted to on line for years though! ......Now look what you've made me do - Completely 'off topic' All the best, Len
  13. I simply don't 'Double Deck'......unless the said 'partner' is willing to stay at my house for at least two weeks, working on the set with me 'of an evening' .....'Too many cooks' an' all that (for me anyway) All the best, Len
  14. Hi Nev, This reads a bit contradictorily (to me) You say “choices put forward were / are pioneers ,who have shaped the scene …..People who were there when a lot of records were discovered in abundance…” ….There’s three ‘were’s’ in there — nothing wrong with that, but surely we are talking about D.J’s “in the past” which were “the good old days” I genuinely don’t see anything wrong with the thread, yes, it may go ‘off on a tangent’ slightly (as they all do) but that’s all. I did say in an earlier post "Can we change this thread to 'D.J's I Would Love To See 'more' Behind The Decks rather than 'Back' Behind The Decks" for that exact reason. I think the thread is actually staying 'on track', but (like me) you would like to see other more 'up to date' suggestions of D.J's. All the best, Len
  15. A bookings a booking Terry! ....... Laters, Len
  16. I'd rather D.J's go into 'their own little worlds of music', rather than 'someone else's world of music' - D.J's who have their own identity are so much more interesting and enjoyable (to me anyway) ......Actually, that's not really what you were getting at were you? You meant, they would forget they were there to entertain. Still, I mean what I say in 'as long as they still entertain' kinda way .....God, I'm cr*p at staying 'on topic' of late - I do apologise! All the best, Len .....F*ck me, or am I 'on topic'?........I've confused myself now!
  17. Don't worry Terry, I'll bring a pillow for ya - I'm pleased with one of my sets if people stay in the room! Len
  18. No, but it works on Grass! .......a Cleethorpes Sunday Night 'After Party'.....a very, very long time ago All the best, Len
  19. See you at 'Snooks' Saturday mate - John's gonna ring ya All the best, Len
  20. Good man, I think what people are getting at (the ones that you say ‘sound like they are ashamed of admitting it’) is when they see people who dress ‘the part’ (etc etc) but never did it in the first place, trying to fool others they did. Reason being, is that it makes a mockery of the whole thing. Those people ain’t got ‘The Aura’ that’s for sure, and for the people that have - It ‘pains’ them. The Northern Soul Scene is renowned for exposing frauds; unfortunately it’s now ‘awash’ with them, so I guess this is why people strongly speak out when they can. I can see how it can be perceived as people denying their past, but I don’t think it is that. ….In saying this, life's too short (and getting shorter) and I’m finding it best not to get too 'het up' over these things anymore. Like you said it was a “youth culture”, and this is where this ‘talk’ comes from, it’s most definitely not something for middle aged people to fall out over. All the best, Len
  21. ......Oooooo, am I dreaming?!!! Don't worry Barry - You ain't seen me D.J mate All the best, Len
  22. ....and you shouldn't be mate! I don't think anyone is ashamed of how they used to be......Although what I'm talking about is before my time, I fully understand that back then no one knew what you were into except 'the others'. Walking down the street 'Soul Strangers' would recognise that 'Northern Soul Aura' in each other (Think of the old Porridge advert, and that warm glow around the person after they've had their breakfast).......I know what I mean. ....But know one else knew anything about it......How cool is that? All the best, Len
  23. Jeese! I just cracked up - I read your post so fast, that it read 'Clogs' instead of 'Clocks'! ...... 'Northern Soul Clogs' can you imagine?........Sadly.....yes......... I know what you mean. All the best, Len
  24. .....and to 'round up' .......It 'used' to be a 'cool thing'...even I'm not 'cool' anymore ......It's an enjoyable past time for middle aged people - Nowt wrong in that......I don't think..... All the best, Len
