  1. The Balance thing you point out is a very good point, D.Jing for example, didn’t cross most (98%) of our minds when we started out (no matter when that may be) This has to do with ‘Knowledge’ as we didn’t know what the records were, and were probably too scared ask! Another really good point is the ‘choice’ that people have made - some ‘wanting’ to learn, others not bothered, and I don’t see anything wrong with either (the point of the thread focusing on those that have chosen to ‘learn’ I know) A while back there was a thread about an event (it was Mick H’s 50th Birthday Party) this thread had the funniest post I have ever read, it was from a mate of Mick’s, he said “Had a great time, been on the Scene for 40 years, and learnt f*ck all! Lol”…..I loved and respected that view - He was basically saying, he loves the Scene, the music and everything else that comes with it, but hasn’t been bothered about the other ‘bit’. Where I’m disappointed is where some may have chosen not to ‘learn’ about stuff (their choice) but haven’t taken on board the ethos of the Scene (or have forgotten it) which is to respect these D.J’s that are trying to bring us fresh tunes - that is what the Scene is supposed to be all about, and they should have grasped that at least - On the contrary, they have attacked that ethos. Yes the ‘Knowledge gap between D.J and punter’ has closed, but it is more relevant in some places than others (the latter being the minority) and what that brings with it, is more of a 'connection' between the two. All the best, Len
  2. Yes agreed. I personally don't mean (as you say) 'D.J's ramblings', that's not what I meant, I mean the 'vibe' of a D.J, and that comes out in how they put a set together - their personality is just that. All the best, Len
  3. I've always thought D.Jing was an art form that comes to some people naturally, and others not at all. Some say "It's all about the music" - It's not. Experience makes them even better of course. All the best, Len
  4. Blimey Sooty!.........No, I didn't come from your 'Stables' I'm afraid mate - The Leicester All-nighter was the first time I D.Jed at an all-nighter (just before Derek Alan, bless him) It was waaaaaaay before your time ........Hey, have always appreciated being involved in your 'Roller Coaster Ride' though ........I think we 'bonded' when we 'bumped' into each other at The Keele All-nighter (literally) whilst we were both giving out flyers - we laughed, exchanged flyers, soon realising we had given each other the same flyer! (The Eely All-nighter) ......Not forgetting those 'infamous' Mini Bus trips - Jeeze, put some petrol in next time, rather than risk actually running out completely as we pull up at the garage! Oy Sooty - Back 'on topic' please! .......and stop leaving those huge spaces, it looks like the top of your posts are the final post! All the best, Len (From a different stable)

Dave Vanner has done that - Surely this hasn't happened twice?!!! Len
  7. Lee Jeffries from Leicester mate - His dad is Steve. Yes a nice lad, he also did Cleethorpes when they had that really small modern room upstairs. It was a good move putting him on at the Ely Alnighter - He even 'upstaged' you mate! All the best, Len
  8. Oh god - Are they?!!! ....Is anyone gonna be serious on here?!!! ...Oh, you are? - Damn! Len
  9. .....I fear my mates will laugh, what with you being 13 and sounding sooooo much like me! ...The only difference being, that if a record I planned to play is played - I panic! lol......and if it's my opening record, well I just cry .....not really.....honestly...... Sorry, you've had to leave us mate - Enjoy School, and stay away from the Soul Scene....For your own sanity.......'Cuckoo' All the best, Len
  10. ....Lots of places......I wouldn't recommend though........ Len
  11. Mmmm, ok you may have a point Len
  12. Well no one could have won in 'The Den' ....It wouldn't be worth putting it on if so! I know you're havin' a joke mate.....well trying to .......Can you imagine? - I really would be 'absolutely devastated!' ...."By the time you read this etc....." All the best, Len
  13. A good friend ‘e’ mailed me today with ref this thread (and I quote) “a good read but I think you may have left yaself wide open there, chr*st you like to live on the edge Len! Lol”…….I’m starting to think he has a point Ted Massey, Dave Rimmer, Kev John, Sooty, Giant, Terry and Garry Huxley I thought the subject interesting as I’m sure (well wondered if) other D.J’s do worry / care about doing an ‘original’ (no ‘pun’ intended) job of D.Jing……and if so, may come forward to discuss. …..It could be a ‘Northern Soul D.J Help Line’……..some ‘need help’ that’s for sure......Yeh, yeh, myself included (too easy!) All the best, Len
  14. Yeh, and ain't we privileged to have experienced that 'Magic' mate? ....Just wonderful...... All the best, Len
  15. Dave Clegg was 'part of the furniture' at The 100 Club for years. I last saw him at Hatty's (of 'Hatty and Andy') Birthday a few months back in Notts. I hadn't seen him in a long time, but we spent most of the evening together 'putting the Scene right' I class Dave as one of my few friends All the best, Len
  16. Doh! (again!)....Now I REALLY am! Len

He, he - You're welcome ......the last 14 years?......I dread to think All the best, Len
  18. I know exactly what you mean mate. Sorry if this post is very slightly 'off topic' but I think it validates your point - Lately I have been playing 'out' the other side of 'Jesse Fisher - Your Not Loving A Beginner', which is the instrumental (hence the 'off topic', because there is one) ........But you listen to it loud and all the way through - It's incredible! There's so much to 'getcha feet into' - I've been playing it at 'The Den', but it's a 'Big Room' sound really. Unfortunately I can't find a You Tube clip of it, but if any of you 'out there' has a copy - go and try it, you will be amazed. For anyone who doesn't know the record 'full stop', I've posted the vocal side, just so you know what record I'm talking about. If anyone can post up the instrumental 'Waiting', I'd be much obliged. All the best, Len
  19. Don't be sorry mate, you don't come across as (what I call) a ‘side liner’ that just criticises for the sake of it - I put “just out of interest” (to get that point across to you) It makes sense what you say, I suppose some of us have been spoilt and sometimes simply don’t settle for anything but ‘the best’, or ‘what we want’, if that makes sense. I don’t go out like I used to, and haven’t done a 100 Club all-nighter for a very long time, so now I would except, really enjoy, or even ‘want’ Ady to play that kind of stuff and thoroughly enjoy it. As Russ Vickers pointed out a while back, “The 100 Club must be the only club in the world to have its own Oldies” (That many at least) And Ady is obviously is a major contributor of them, I find it best to always bare that in mind - It’s incredible if you think about it. All the best, Len
  20. B*gger! Len
  21. I like you already Len
  22. Hi 'geeselad' just out of interest, what did you expect him to do? All the best, Len

  24. ....I'm moved that you care mate Len
  25. Yes, that makes sense.......but I simply couldn't do it! .......Brian Goucher, I'm sure will explain All the best, Len P.s - The whole damn set gets changed every time!
