  1. Please! - carry on 'adding nothing' to 'any' thread! - It's got to better than the stuff I write (and deeply regret the next morning) As you say - Great tune mate. All the best, Len
  2. Great record! Len P.s - Do ya like this Peter?!!! (Cloth ears)
  3. I personally don't put play lists up because I strongly believe you can't tell what a venue is like by play lists alone - Some tunes sound so right 'at the right time, in the right atmosphere, on the right night'..... I finished a set with 'Chic - Good Times' the other night, everyone was dancing and smiling - It wouldn't have looked the same on a play list......Yes, I know there's 'general interest', but I think the latter cancels it out, so I don't do it (obviously I also don't want 'D.J's' nicking my ideas) All the best, Len 'Chic - Good Times' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8g6bUe5MDRo
  4. You never was mate -You can't help your taste Great stuff Len
  5. Doh! - you're the wrong Pete! Hey ho 'Pete' whichever one you are - Still in my good books anyway Len
  6. ....Oh god, I know exactly what you mean - That was priceless! - Consider yourself back in my good books .......I'll dance to 'Just like the Weather' (in a c*cky fashion as described) if you dance to 'Romana Collins' (As if ya really mean it!) All the best, Len
  7. No that's fine mate - I do prefer 'eccentric' though All the best, Len
  8. Hi mate, My point is, that I'm actually wondering if my taste is 'unique' I was having a 'discussion' with Pete S about 'Romona Collins - You've Been Cheating' - I absolutely love it - he don't, and with ref this record, I get the impression that everyone (except me) absolutely loves it. I'm aware that people's different histories influence their taste, and can relate to people around the time this was first played loved it then, so obviously love it now - especially with their memories attached. Does that make sense? All the best, Len
  9. Is this one of those records that are 'of a time', as in 'you had to have been there'? I'm not meaning this post to be one of those 'sh*t record' comments by any means, as they serve no purpose, that's not what I mean. I genuinely don't think much to it, not even Butch's one. I'm not knocking the record for the sake of it, I just wondered is it just me? If so, I really am 'the odd one out' All the best, Len
  10. ............I can't let Brian kill another thread - I'll 'take one for the team' Len
  11. It's a good question mate. This record is one that has been on my wants list for years, and one that I haven't seen for sale very often over this time. How rare is it? Well no one really knows that about any record do they? But how ever many copies are 'out there', I think they are 'holders', as in people don't normally part with them. Once you get passed £500.00 (or whatever) for a record, after that any price is amazing really, and to me (if I had the funds) I would pay a lot for this. Pete, if you have one, I'll take it off your hands (as a favour) All the best, Len
  12. ......Are we listening to the same record? "What a record!" Len 'Romona Collins - You've been cheating' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jL0Cki3jPDU
  13. The way I like em .......My main love being 'Monotonous and goes nowhere' soul All the best, Len
  14. .....and there's me all this time thinking you had decent taste I'll say it again - What a record! All the best, Len
  15. Absolutely, I really enjoy dancing to this on the rare occasion that it is played out. We always used to ask Mick Smith to play it at The 100 Club - I don't think he ever did! Probably having a game with us.......or he daren't Ted, are you coming to Soul in the Bowl with Lou and Woody this Saturday mate? Or are you going straight to Rugby? A few from the South pop in 'en route', but you're from 'the other side'. All the best, Len
  16. Yes mate, as hard as we try to be 'cutting edge' in 'The Den', we just can't seem to completely clear the floor, which is what it's all about!.....Brian Goucher being the worst in 'The Den', I've seen the dance floor absolutely packed in there to one of his sets - Calls himself a D.J........ All the best, Len
  17. I know, I've seen it happen, I suppose it depends who it's played to. I've also seen a packed floor to it - it definitely needs 'splicing' in though. All the best, Len
  18. As you know - They're the ones I like Ted Although not a 'dance floor death record' as far as I'm concerned All the best, Len
  19. What a record! ...I'm happy to dance whenever Arthur Fenn (or whoever else is lucky enough to own a copy) decides to pop it on. One of my all time faves - Still satisfied to have it on tape.....If only cars still had tape players! All the best, Len
  20. Me to Len
  21. This’ll make you laugh…….. ………Over the 15 years that I ran The Embankment Club, there was only ever one fight (different times) and it was between two soulies - You never know how you are going to react until ‘it’ happens……. ......I was D.Jing, and was facing the other way going through my records, Dave Vanner was with me, and he nodded at the dance floor and said “here it goes’, I turned round and saw the whole dance floor ‘move’, as in, the fight started at the back of the hall, and seemed to ‘surge’ forward to the front taking the crowd with it. I have only ever had one fight in my whole life which stopped because the School Bell rang, so if you don’t know me that tells you I ain’t a fighter!.....Anyway, god only knows what got into me, some sort of ‘Authoritarian Spirit’ or something, because I literally jumped off the stage, ‘reached up’ (As I ain’t very tall) and grabbed this guy by the throat…….wait for it……I ‘actually’ growled at him (whilst holding his throat)….”Not in my club!” (Gawd, I am cringing as I type!)…….That is not ‘me’ by any means of the imagination!......It gets worse……..at this point someone shouted…..“Len!”…..I turned round (still holding his throat)….”What?!”……..”Len, That’s the wrong bloke!”….Doh! ……..I let go of this poor chap… “Um, sorry about that” …..He was fine about it, and we have since had a few laughs about that night “Not in my Club!”….Oh deary dear Len
  22. Yup 'A Promoters lot is a Promoters lot' I'm afraid - The people that do it for the right reasons know this, and they stick at it because their heart is in it. After reading this thread, I'd just like to add that I hope the Easington Welfare Soul events (as have been discussed) all the best for the future (or other events they may be involved in) I don't know them and have never been to the event, but on reading this I can tell they are 'on side', and care very much about what they are doing. As a promoter one has to be able to take all sorts of criticisms and not all are constructive (to put it lightly), also they can be 'thrown' at you in a very aggressive manner. This and many other things just have to be dealt with......but every so often one gets through and hurts - It's bound to if you put your heart and soul into something All the best, Len
  23. Thanks Billy.....um, best not mention this to Nina (the wife) All the best, Len
  24. Great tune - Tell her, I love her Len
  25. They usually conduct themselves correctly. All the best, Len
