  1. No, that'll be me Len
  2. Yeh I know, the correct order / time / tempo / moment, etc, etc - 'The way they play em', and I mean any soul record that they choose to play. Ahem, see my signature All the best, Len P.s - The 'Top' D.J's that you refer to, aren't 'Top' as far as I'm concerned, but I know what you mean.
  3. ....and the people who are somebody, didn't go out to be anybody - They just 'do what they do', and to me it shines through. Records even sound different played by different people - It's the way they play em All the best, Len
  4. You obviously have the same taste as me - Well done Len
  5. Well done for a good try that man I just wish 'some' would realise that D.Jing ain't that easy, it takes years of experience and mistakes to be half decent (always exception to the rule I know).......But I'm afraid pleasing the masses don't take much talent. I've always said that if 'to be a D.J' was still very 'Tony Blackburn', we wouldn't have a problem, but as soon as it was 'cool' to be a D.J in the mainstream, that spilled over. Chr*st in my early years of 'Soulin', I didn't know who the D.J was, or the Promoter for that matter - I think that is Cool. All the best, Len
  6. I can't be bothered Win Len
  7. Hi Win, If most did just that, the music would be so much more interesting - That is the point, 'some' just buy the same records that are being played already. I started D.Jing because I wasn't hearing the tunes I wanted to hear, and I'm more than happy as long as someone is playing them. All the best, Len
  8. Cover ups to me, are part of the mystery and fun. There are two sorts - There are Butch type cover ups that are rare....and there are my type of cover ups that are not! But I love the mystery both bring, even if for a short while..... All the best, Len P.s - As long as you are capable of laughing at yourself when some 'bright spark' comes and tells you what you are playing!
  9. I used to say the same thing about tapes!.....I'm still here though .....Kind of anyway Len
  10. Well put (not even angry) and saves me writing anything. I'm enjoying things where / when I can, hopefully (to quote penny) in a dignified manner, simply ignoring anything I don't like. Phil, I'll look forward to seeing you at 'The Den', for a very 'odd night out' All the best, Len P.s - To the thread starter - Correct me if I'm wrong here (not that it matters at all) You are relatively new to the scene, so if you are feeling disillusioned already, I suggest having a break for a few weeks, then you will come 'bouncing back' for sure (especially if you only have recent years to judge on) P.p.s - I mean - 'to quote Mik' .......I like 'Penny' though
  11. Saw him live at The Forum in Kentish Town - Now that guy had 'Stage Presence' One of the Greats. All the best, Len
  12. No a D.J doesn't 'just play a record', he has read the moment, got the tempo right, and 'hit the spot' with that someone who applauds - that is why they applaud (unless it's a slow clap) Of course anyone can play a record, but there's more to D.Jing than plonking a record on, then standing waiting for it to finish (Well, there is to me anyway) As for the film? I think Tony does All the best, Len
  13. I don't ...... ......If a D.J pleasantly surprises me with THEIR OWN initiative I naturally applaud it, of which obviously goes hand in hand (ged it?) with liking the tune - I applaud the D.J's choice, and timing..........I used to clap loads........ All the best, Len
  14. Yes I did have him in mind - again! God this is confusing at times Neither Pete's (Or any other Pete's for that matter) are in my bad books, and never were (Just thought I'd confirm that) Right - Out tonight, so 'we'll meet again' on Wednesday......or as the last time - Sunday night! Have a good weekend everyone. All the best, Len
  15. Please! - carry on 'adding nothing' to 'any' thread! - It's got to better than the stuff I write (and deeply regret the next morning) As you say - Great tune mate. All the best, Len
  16. Great record! Len P.s - Do ya like this Peter?!!! (Cloth ears)
  17. I personally don't put play lists up because I strongly believe you can't tell what a venue is like by play lists alone - Some tunes sound so right 'at the right time, in the right atmosphere, on the right night'..... I finished a set with 'Chic - Good Times' the other night, everyone was dancing and smiling - It wouldn't have looked the same on a play list......Yes, I know there's 'general interest', but I think the latter cancels it out, so I don't do it (obviously I also don't want 'D.J's' nicking my ideas) All the best, Len 'Chic - Good Times' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8g6bUe5MDRo
  18. You never was mate -You can't help your taste Great stuff Len
  19. Doh! - you're the wrong Pete! Hey ho 'Pete' whichever one you are - Still in my good books anyway Len
  20. ....Oh god, I know exactly what you mean - That was priceless! - Consider yourself back in my good books .......I'll dance to 'Just like the Weather' (in a c*cky fashion as described) if you dance to 'Romana Collins' (As if ya really mean it!) All the best, Len
  21. No that's fine mate - I do prefer 'eccentric' though All the best, Len
  22. Hi mate, My point is, that I'm actually wondering if my taste is 'unique' I was having a 'discussion' with Pete S about 'Romona Collins - You've Been Cheating' - I absolutely love it - he don't, and with ref this record, I get the impression that everyone (except me) absolutely loves it. I'm aware that people's different histories influence their taste, and can relate to people around the time this was first played loved it then, so obviously love it now - especially with their memories attached. Does that make sense? All the best, Len
  23. Is this one of those records that are 'of a time', as in 'you had to have been there'? I'm not meaning this post to be one of those 'sh*t record' comments by any means, as they serve no purpose, that's not what I mean. I genuinely don't think much to it, not even Butch's one. I'm not knocking the record for the sake of it, I just wondered is it just me? If so, I really am 'the odd one out' All the best, Len
  24. ............I can't let Brian kill another thread - I'll 'take one for the team' Len
  25. It's a good question mate. This record is one that has been on my wants list for years, and one that I haven't seen for sale very often over this time. How rare is it? Well no one really knows that about any record do they? But how ever many copies are 'out there', I think they are 'holders', as in people don't normally part with them. Once you get passed £500.00 (or whatever) for a record, after that any price is amazing really, and to me (if I had the funds) I would pay a lot for this. Pete, if you have one, I'll take it off your hands (as a favour) All the best, Len
