  1. "I will never give up!"......He simply has to be stopped You're 'one of us' Steve Len P.s - I did like the phrase Irish came up with, describing us as 'The Tempo Twins'
  2. Me and you have very different 'histories', so are obviously influenced differently. I know if the two tunes that I posted above were played at The 100 Club (in my days there at least) the dance floor would have been packed - So in my opinion they are both dance tunes that sound fantastic at the right moment.......For me - at 4.00am......For you - in the car on the way home.....just before you sling the C.D out of the window! I like your opinions though - Keep em coming (Need not that I ask you to!) All the best, Len
  3. .......I was 'Bracing' myself for something Terry Len
  4. Good man - 'Soul in the Bowl' is where it's at! Sorry Jocko - Couldn't resist All the best, Len
  5. I know some may think 'The Festivals' track isn't a dancer (I disagree) So here's one that I think more would like. ‘Lee Williams - It’s Everything About You’ All the best, Len https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQOHZZo7QRs
  6. I suppose I better put my 'head on the block' as I gave my opinion on the last two records...... ......This is my 'Heaven'.......Just TRY and imagine it being 'spliced' in at the right time (and that everyone liked it!) 'The Festivals - You Got The Makings Of A Lover' Enjoy! (I'll get me coat) All the best, Len https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUWV1qhlt6Y
  7. I call that 'Gotcha Gotcha' Soul - I like it (but not all night) It certainly keeps a place 'going' - I'll give Gordon that. I didn't like 'The Majestics - Strange World' at all (My 'difference' I was talking about Terry) Just opinions guys All the best, Len
  8. Adam has been playing 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' for years, and always when it was right to play it - The greatest record on a Sunday night at Cleethorpes All the best, Len
  9. .....and I thought I was alone on that one Len P.s - Welcome back Terry - We missed ya
  10. Me and Nina's Wedding record that - A 'tune and a half' All the best, Len P.s - Followed by 'Jackie Wilson - Because of You' - Floor 'suddenly' rammed with folk 'itching to dance'.....for some 'strange' reason
  11. A few words about ‘Sooty’……… Sooty is a f*ckin’ good salesman / businessman - I love it when he says his soul nights were a sell out every month, and the All-nighters had 1000 people! (They were very busy mind) ……This (as you called it Chalky) ‘bravado’ works with some people (the masses) I have never met anyone like Sooty before ref his ‘selling’ - he tackles it with an ‘American Selling’ approach, and gets results (to a point) .......The only thing that lets him down slightly (meant in the nicest possible way) is his lack of history, which isn’t a criticism, it’s just a fact that he always points out to people - at least he’s not trying to tell folk (or believing himself) that he is, or ever was a ‘Top’ D.J……It was funny as hell to see Sooty ‘bounce around’ the Soul Scene - some people really couldn’t handle his ‘bold’ approach - It was against the rules! If anyone can ‘bring it all together’ Sooty can, but I do think it is a tall order, even for him…..But I’m sure he will be doing his ‘home work’ on what has changed since he last ‘appeared’ Good luck Sooty - You’re gonna need it All the best, Len P.s - Ref his posts - I have had many say this and similar to me (and I quote)........"I find his posts an absolute scream"
  12. Well they're definitely underplayed! What fun we all have! Len
  13. I've been waiting for whoever has events where they put the records on a screen to give the actual reason for doing so - I'm not saying it's a bad or good thing, it certainly doesn't offend me. I think it's just a gimmick to add 'something' to an event - Nothing wrong in that (I prefer the Glitter Ball myself though) An 'aside' note - As a D.J, I have welcomed these new Electric Cigarettes - God I missed smoking two fags at a time when D.Jing All the best, Len
  14. .......The days of the "dog eared note book" are long gone mate - It's now just "pestering the dj" I'm afraid....... Len
  15. You can say that again......It certainly was for me........I suffer from what is termed 'Dry Eye', and I can't open my eyes in the mornings without putting drops in......I also now only smoke one of those vapour electric cigarettes, which you fill with a 'very' similar bottle to the eye drops.....the most noticeable difference being the picture of a dead fish on the side, with the words 'very toxic'........Yup, you guessed it, I reached past my alarm clock and gently squeezed the 'juice' into both of my eye ducts, and 'waited' for it to 'work it's usual magic' - AAARRRRRRGHHHHHH! I can't tell you how much it f*ckin' hurt! I very nearly went to A and E - You should have seen how red my eyes were! Ouch....... .......Sorry, what are we talking about? All the best, Len
  16. ....and I would have been 'right behind you' Chalky Len
  17. I knew what you meant - There is defo a 'trust' bond between most, and as always, there's bound to be an exception to the (unwritten) rule. All the best, Len
  18. Not an event most of you would have gone to, but it's interesting ref the Art Work / Letraset Wording - It took hours! I remember having Mace D.J at this Club back then. Btw - It's on my wall All the best, Len
  19. A little 'off topic' this, but I wanted to share this experience - Last night I went to an event at The Nags Head in Wollaston (Northants). Now, to the 'untrained' eye, it would have looked like a 'Handbag' event, it was a room full of 60 plus year olds, all reliving their youth. I had a brief chat with this guy, he said (and I quote) "I was here 45 years ago, every weekend off me nut - I loved it".......and to see these guys 'doing their thing' on the dance floor to tunes like 'Green Onions' etc was a privilege. They were 'doing it' before Wigan, and even before The Wheel - They really did have 'an edge' about them. Point being - Don't 'write off' all these 'old f*ckers' All the best, Len
  20. To be serious for moment, we do actually feel this way, and it shows in the way folk are so protective of it - I like that. But as I said, there's no point fighting against something we ain't gonna win, so 'flip it on it's head', and make it advantageous to us. All the best, Len
  21. Agreed, I think it beneficial to embrace this change rather than fight against it, because it is a fact. Excuse this 'blatant' plug, but we have done exactly that at 'Soul in the Bowl' here in Northants, advertising in local newspapers etc - The upshot being that we attract over 250 people, yes some we see as 'Bubble Wrap', but they come, they ad to the great atmosphere, and have a great time - Some of these newcomers seem intrigued with 'Len's Den' (which is the second room) and feel comfortable staying in there albeit 'sight seeing'. All this has got to better than a room with not enough people playing great music, with no atmosphere. It works well for us anyway. All the best, Len
  22. Damn right, I think in an 'ideal Northern Soul World' this may be the case......but I won't forget having me fags nicked at The Ritz in Manchester in the 90's, that incidently also had a nice Jo*nt hidden in there for the next morning - There has always been crooks everywhere, although the ones I refer to being somewhat 'relaxed' with a smile upon their faces All the best, Len
  23. I like it being a 'secret society'.....and it is 'our' scene. But everyone's welcome as far as I'm concerned All the best, Len
