  1. Well said mate - I get so p*ssed off when I'm at a SOUL event, and someone puts this (in my book) tripe on (maybe thinking they are 'cutting edge').......except for Dave Rimmer because his Mike work makes up for it - and he always apologises to me (over the mike usually!) It's a SOUL Scene! All the best, Len P.s - I must say, even Dave's 'awful habit' of R 'n' B is a lot better than has been posted - luv ya Dave x
  2. .....Only on this Scene!.......I was 'an event' a few weeks ago, and something 'kicked off'.......I then heard someone shout...."Leave my Dad alone!"....again - 'Only on this Scene' Great stuff Len
  3. Brilliant - So glad you have a sense of humour. That's the trouble sometimes, people take it so personally when someone questions their (bad) taste All the best, Len
  4. They haven't, and don't mate - But at least you 'like what you like'...god bless ya .....Try listening to some Soul music Len
  5. ......Still f*ckin' clueless Len
  6. I think I know who ya mean....but I'm still 'catching up' with Ion All the best, Len
  7. ....F*ckin' clueless.......... Len
  8. I thought he meant two soul nights in the week clashing Len
  9. You're probably right there - But he needs to stop listening to that awful R 'n' B stuff - ARE YOU TAKING THIS IN LINCSYOUNGSOUL?!!!! Confused? You will be mate Len
  10. I thought that was 'Northern Soul!'.........All part of the fun - waiting with bated breath at what the record is......."Blah, blah, blah-blah, blah"......."What did he say?!"......."F*ck knows"......."I'll go and ask him"......................(On his return)....."Sh*t, I 've forgotten what he said"........ Len
  11. Will do, and your points are valid - I'm sure he will see them as such. All the best, Len
  12. I think he's all ears mate, and will take on board what you have put across - There's definitely worse 'out there' All the best, Len
  13. As I said, I've met him, and think he's 'on track' ok, despite that one line. He likes to be different, and I see that as a good thing All the best, Len
  14. Oh you do have to complicate things don't ya Mark! You are dealing with an angry Len here - So watch ya step! .......Just kidding - Yes absolutely right mate, and none of what I said was aimed at Lincsyoungsoul - I have met him, and have the impression that he does just that, 'like what he likes' - So your point is a good one...but some do dismiss records because they think it's the 'done thing'........some also like records for the same reason All the best, Len
  15. Cool - Don't panic, crossed wires an' all that It does make me angry (apart from the whole world that we now live in) These people are basically doing a 'Carbon copy' of others that have been around for years, and are so missing the point. All the best, Len Grrrr!
  16. Yes I know this mate, I think you've missed my point - I'm talking about people that are new to the Scene writing off good oldies because they 'some how' see them as old hat - How the f*ck can someone see something as old hat when they have only been on the Scene 5 minutes? All the best, Len
  17. Abso'f*ckin'lutely - Well said that man! Also, they are missing out on so much by doing so. All the best, Len
  18. Yes I know some new folk who seemed to have quickly 'worked out' what they see as 'cool', and have written off all the Oldies when they didn't know a thing a very short while ago - Bit strange that, but true. Another 'strange' one - I knew this guy who had a box of pressings that he had accumulated over the years - I loved playing through them at his house......fast forward a year, all of a sudden he's a D.J, and all the pressings (his memories) have disappeared.....people get so confused...... All the best, Len P.s - I love my Oldies - We're still playing them because they are good!
  19. Do you think this is more necessary at a Soul night than an All-nighter? I feel it is needed / great at both, but have been to a nighter where the mike wasn't used much at all, and I commented on that fact - Answer being, the music speaks for itself, and going by the 'alive' atmosphere it was obviously 'working' for everyone there - A nighter situation is different, but I personally still like a bit of Mike usage wherever - If only to let us know what the records are called every so often....I also think apart from the music of course, the mike usage helps bring the D.J's personality across......If they're havin' a good time - so will we! All the best, Len
  20. Sorry mate, I normally catch anything you throw 'out there'....and return with something that bit funnier ....Alas, I I've had the kids (5 and 8) with me at work since after School, and they have 'f*ckin' worn me out That did cross my mind actually - Hey, I'm sure 'we'll meet one day'....and I'll tell you where the Bass and Treble are....I may even show you where the 'Gain' is.....and tell you what it is Ok folks, back on track - Carry on Very interesting topic this, and I do hope naming a few names as examples doesn't matter - When I say 'Classic' D.J, I mean the type that were doing it when it was so opposite to it being a D.J making someone 'God like' - as in the 'Fat Boy Slim Shape' era. They are a 'breed' that I fondly remember.....hang on, that don't read back right now You know what I mean All the best, Len
  21. ? Two dimensional world confusing me - I was giving out a compliment (without 'stroking' I hope!).....I'm not Butch, if you were getting me confused (Slightly different Sir names) To further explain what I mean - If Butch decided to retire and give me all his records (or anyone for that matter) I don't think 'Harrythehog' (post 44) who has been travelling to see him D.J, would travel to see me (or whoever) play his tunes - It wouldn't be the same. I love the old 'Classic' D.J's and is why I mentioned Nick 'Topsy' Turvey Len
  22. In this instance, Butch's records are all he needs, but I do think the work he has put in gives him a 'presence' anyway - He doesn't need to tell jokes like us lot! I do like a D.J to have a unique style that sets him apart. I often see people comment that some D.J's don't even know how to use the equipment - This may be important on some Scenes, but on our Scene you just need to know which sliders, where the Bass, Treble and Gain is, and that's about it - I'm no expert on all this new fangled kit, and have no interest to be - I just play my records and use the mike (Just enough I hope) All the best, Len
