  1. Welcome to my world! lol.....I find it quite a buzz really - 'S & M D.Jing' Len
  2. Yes of course mate - Just making a point (meant in the nicest possible way an' all that) but yeh, all done now Len
  3. ....and that is something I have never done - ref the event I help run, we promote the fact that these people are not idiots, and have proved such because they are enjoying lots of tunes they have only just heard. My point was, that Tony Smith would be looked upon as a newies D.J really, but we forget that 20 years have since passed, hence his comment that he is now an oldies D.J (albeit a different generation oldies D.J to the Wigan era) I thought Smudge was a mainly oldies D.J? (Nowt wrong in that, just saying) All the best, Len
  4. .....Well, it was the only way I could actually say those 'D.J words'......and I did apologise for any inconvenience caused (and any burns)..... ..... ..x.......x.......x....... Len
  5. A serious word about Charity gigs. I don’t know Toc, so this is completely unbiased…… He (she?) comes across as someone who is genuine, and absolutely wants to raise money for Charity, as does Sooty (that bit is in there somewhere) Unfortunately this charity ‘lark’ has been spoilt for me, by some using it either as an excuse to put ‘yet another’ event on, or simply as a ‘hook’ to get people through the door. I’m not sure how others feel, but I go to soul events for one person - me, and I couldn’t care less if my entrance money went to good causes or straight up the promoters nose - Point being, if an event is for charity then great, but it makes no difference to me whether I attend or not. Good luck to all that raise money because they care. All the best, Len ……x……x……x…….x…….x…….x……..x…… I D.Jed back in……..absolutely blew the roof off……….x……x…..he he…………
  6. Now there's a thought - Bring back the Mullet I say! Len
  7. I was talking to Tony Smith 'tuther evening, and he called himself an oldies D.J - True in the true sense of it. All the best, Len
  8. ....Or he's as mad as a box of bats...... Len
  9. ......I'm surprised, and disappointed in you Mick All the best, Len P.s - Hi Sooty btw......Good god man - 'Head on the block' or what!
  10. “Hey kids! Come and try this exciting Music Scene, ‘yule’ love it!”……….”Ok, we’ll give it a go Len!”………. (After the Soul event)....... ……..”So Kids?!”……..”Well, we ‘digged’ the music, and recon we could really get into that, but what spoilt it for us was the belligerent old men that moaned all evening, why can’t they just go out and have a good time with their mates?”……….”Yeh, you have a point”…… HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE.....and enjoy, wherever ya go! All the best, Len
  11. A Hypothetical Question If there was a choice between playing a ‘really good / very expensive / in demand’ record, and an ‘acceptable pretty much unknown’ record — which would be the correct option for a D.J to go with? (Forgetting the ‘depends on the situation’).......We need to be careful not to now attach a stigma to playing the ‘really good / very expensive / in demand records’…… ……Or is it already there?.........Funnily enough, just a few weeks ago I was discussing my thoughts with ‘Mr A Record Dealer’, about whether I should play ‘Andy Fisher - My Heart’s Beating Stronger’ (at a venue where it suited) I then went on to explain that it’s a record I have loved for years, and never did I think I would ever own one - but now that I do, I hesitate to play it out in case anyone thinks I’m playing it just because it’s a ‘biggie’…….I then shared, that I mainly play it under a quilt, whilst reading a copy of Tit-Bits - His face was a picture!….“Eargh, I used to love Andy Fisher, now every time I hear it, I’ll think of you and ya Tit-Bits!” So folks, a warning - Soon you will be ‘so last year’ if you own any ‘really good / very expensive / in demand’ records, so give em to me before it’s too late - and ‘stay cool’ Moral of the story - If a tune suits you, that’s all that matters, and its best not to give any other factor to much thought……luckily such deep thinking is completely out of Character for me……(Aye Spot ?) All the best, Len P.s - I did choose to play it in the end, and read Tit-Bits whilst everyone danced (No one seemed to mind) ïŠ
  12. You maybe right, you maybe wrong - luckily I have my monologues as back up (Mike work is 'necessary' sometimes) All the best, Len ('Of 'The Den')..............ahem.........
  13. I do....we go back a while...... Len
  14. I like it because it's a 'different version' ....I have about 5 versions of 'The Sweetest Feeling' - Earthquake being 'by far' the worse one I bet there's a thread about different versions of records - If not, there should be, it would be a giggle (along with the arguing) All the best, Len
  15. I'm really lazy now ref collecting (except I'm still searching stuff from tapes I've had years, once I've finally find out what they're called!) I normally just 'e' mail a record earlier if I have a want - So wrong I know! But it stops me buying that record that sounded one way at the nighter, only for it to be a completely different record once it's home! All the best, Len
  16. Of course (I bet Bazza disagrees though) ......but we do like our different versions don't we? - no matter how bad! All the best, Len
  17. ....and because the said record hasn't been slated, I will now share with you that my friend Rob Holmes introduced me to it, only a couple of weeks ago (credit where credit's due an' all that).....God it's tough on here sometimes - Do you know what? Although I had chosen not to put Robs name to it at first (to protect him from any flak that may come from anyone) I even worried that I was taking credit for someone else's thinking!.....Take the p*ss (of course!), but respect each others tastes, is the message here I think.........Yes, even Bazza's! All the best, Len
  18. Thanks Bazza - That was part of a post Mike removed! (I hope this part is ok and relevant Mike) All the best, Len
  19. Great post….But ref the ‘Hand Baggers’ - We do a lot of local advertising for our ‘event’ which attracts some of these so called ‘Hand Baggers’, because we recognised that without doing so it probably wouldn’t be viable. Gone are the days of attracting loads of travellers (every town has its own event), so embracing this change has been advantageous - over 300 people enjoying themselves and making that exciting atmosphere c/w a successful second room….It’s a pleasure seeing people enjoying it all for the first time (all ages) I do understand your point, and I was very protective of it all like you (and still am) but there are positives in embracing the change, rather than trying to stop it - Dave Vanner is now getting away with playing loads of unknown stuff in the main room, which we didn’t think was going to be possible when we first started. Our customers aren’t a load of idiots, some have no influences / pretence, and that’s great in my book. Maybe the Scene simply 'sheds it's skin' every ten years, and will carry on doing so forever All the best, Len
  20. Forget the tempo argument for one moment (I've Terry to convince yet) ....But your point of loads or records being cheap (and fantastic) is so right and I can't believe anyone thinks otherwise. It ain't even hard work - For example just ask Chris Anderton to send you a sales C.D, and I bet most people would find something fantastic on there very affordable - I also like the 'tease' if it's just a clip of a record 'cos that can catch you out You mentioned Latin (referring to people playing 'thinking man's tunes') So here's another example. Just see this as a 'piece of music' not heard out (much?) rather than your opinion on whether it should get played. I haven't a clue on value for this one mind - it's not and shouldn't be important (As you pointed out) All the best, Len 'Ray Terrace - Listen To Me' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfwiNXSGIeQ
  21. Mmmmmm, couldn't you now ........... We best start getting receipts after this thread being 'a wash' with laundering Len
  22. We do at Soul in the Bowl main room ........or do we?........ Len
  23. Yeh I agree, it has to be done professionally - Also, there's nothing worse than a 'shouty' D.J. If it's done properly I still think Mike usage is good, and adds something. All the best, Len
