  1. I remember making the fatal mistake of 'insisting' my work colleagues came to 'one of my do's'......What was I thinking?!!! - What an idiot!.......After they had 'settled down' after seeing a load of 'old blokes in vests' dancing on their own, they approached me absolutely crying'with laughter......"Look, look Len!" (showing me a poster)......"Special guest Butch!!! lol!" etc, etc.....You can imagine the rest.....god I hate engineers..... Len
  2. 'kin well said!.....Jimmy Robbins - fantastic R'n'B Soul record...then people 'scraped that barrel' to be 'cutting edge'......"Put Jimmy Mack on FFS!!!" Get me? Len P.s - I did a couple of The Embankment Club Posters with "R'n'B stinks". on them...they went down rather well....ahem.....well Roger Banks thought they were hilarious......as did I.....after the death threats......
  3. ....."If it ain't Soul, it ain't Soul"....... All the best, Len P.s - Meant in the nicest possible way
  4. Makes sense - I remember Cliff playing it in the late 80's......So Butch ain't that good then..... Len P.s - Great sir name though - 'Dobson', being slightly rarer than 'Dopson'
  5. 'Bobby Mac - Shy Guy' - To cheap! What a record!!! Len
  6. Good God - Does anyone know him really well?!!! I like him, and get the impression he can 'read people' pretty well (can't explain why I think that)......He 'does what he does', and doesn't expect, or want any 'kudus' for it - I remember saying a simple 'thanks' to him at The 100 Club 25th Anniversary for his 'service', he acknowledged it ok, but I know that's not what he does it for. "little bit more insight would be great"....... Without being to intrusive - Myself, and Nina (the wife) celebrated New Year in Cornwall a few years back with a hand full of people which included Butch and his Mrs, and I saw that he is a normal bloke (and can drink Whiskey without the coke!) He also has some great stories about trips to America. I remember him D.Jing at The Embankment Club, explaining that he had been playing football that day - Just a normal bloke (with 'tunes!') To me, he is what 'Northern Soul' stands for (along with Mad Sean from The 100 Club) - very unassuming, and just 'gets on with it' I hope the above is ok. All the best, Len P.s - He also made me feel ok when D.Jing at The 100 Club, which I really appreciated (Just a simple...."are you ok?"....worked wonders)
  7. 'ditto'......Mind you - I can now 'officially declare' it as a floor packer - Thanks to Butch doing the business with it again at Life-line last Saturday 'You're welcome' btw lol Len
  8. Dunno, but I thought he looked pretty cool (Not ironic btw) Right, time to get ready for Life-line......now what to wear?..... All the best, Len
  9. There was a fantastic piece about young people in Manifesto magazine years ago, written by the 'one and only' Mr Potato Head. It included them having to hide behind a bush on the other side of the road from the venue, and look at the queue for at least 6 months before even thinking about joining it!.....Be great if someone could post the article up.......I'll start wading through my pile of mags.......Hang on that don't read quite right All the best, Len P.s - Young people don't need, or ask for any help - The gooduns will find their own way (respectfully)
  10. One of those records that I understand people liking (especially those from 'back in the day') but always gave me a head ache - Meant in the nicest possible way All the best, Len
  11. ....Never apologise for R 'n' B - I love this stuff Len
  12. Huh - How times have changed........I thought it was a 30 year apprenticeship - Blo*dy government getting rid of City and Guilds Len
  13. ......very true...... I think what people can't handle (Have to include myself in this to a point) is that some feel it simply shouldn't be seen to keep it underground........along with all those good looking young people of course! I'll look forward to reading tomorrows 'papers' Night night. Len
  14. Congratulations Alison - Your positivity seems to have worked! Good on ya girl! All the best, Len

  16. .....no it's not Len
  17. The vat is worked out on the quarterly buying and selling of that period (3 months), but 'for arguments sake', John is correct on his vat summery (give or take) So what's the general opinion folks? - Which is better 'I don't Know About You, or I Didn't Know How To'? Answer - 'I Didn't Know How To' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZQRFuAdVoM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX7cHcSSvpw&feature=kp .......Actually, now I've had another listen.......I'm not sure again
  18. .....and Wellingborough.....20 years later..... Len
  19. Great record! (I got it cheap) Len
  20. They had the very early copies, I'm sure Carl said he got his from John Anderson (I could be wrong) I heard Gary Spencer play it at The Fleet All-nighter, which influenced me to get a copy. It cost me £70.00, plus 'Joanie Sommers - Don't Pity Me'. I remember ringing Pat Brady up to double check if it was a fair deal Still a great haunting record which I never tire of hearing. Len
  21. .....Ok just the one then (as the thread subject seems to have run it's course now) Len 'Bull & The Matadors If You Decide' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oj5j3KTF-Vk
  22. .....and a very rare one Dave! Len
  23. 'Strange Intros' - That could be a good separate thread (It may have already been done) All the best, Len
  24. ....In 'The Den' ......Ged it?....Pride......No? Oh ok.....that was a cheap 'plug' Dead right about the dance floor mate.....we are now managing to empty it most of the time.....well, up until Brian Goucher D.J's, and spoils everything.....when will he learn?! All the best, Len
