  1. Here's a thread I started a while ago that links to this nicely - It has a slightly different take, more focusing on 'nurturing' the Scene carefully (I think some may find of interest) All the best, Len
  2. .....Still watching you......... Len
  3. ...and a personality maybe? Not aimed at you Simsy as I gather from your postings you would agree - A C.D of tunes doesn't mean you can D.J / Choose the right moment to put an appropriate tune on. A D.J should be asked on merit alone - If not, it all gets a bit desperate. IMHO of course! All the best, Len P.s - No matter what age.
  4. 'Johnnie Hoyle - What About Me'......Just brilliant. Double that price if got more plays - IMHO of course! All the best, Len

All looks very serious......Until you clock the 'Shrine to The Handbag' on the right :D Some great photo's Steve  Len
  6. God yes, I remember getting my original (after 20 years of looking / hoping) and thought it a nice gesture to give my pressing to Ping (from Huntingdon area) as he liked the record - I joked around with both copies for a while, then........"Hang on, which was in which hand?!" ........I think I gave him the right one Len P.s - I expect the pressing of that is quite rare anyway
  7. .......It had better be..... Len
  8. I prefer Elephants.........have I mentioned that? Len P.s - Well done you brave lass, for coming on here and saying you done it - Glad you enjoyed yaself
  9. No Len P.s - Just kidding - I getcha point
  10. This is my ‘Soul life’ (Present time) I’m not interested in anywhere else (which includes the area in which I live in) To those events I may like but have never attended, a time factor is included (I also have a life to lead) The Life-line All-nighter - Because I strongly believe in what they are doing (Just need to turn those lights down guys) ïŠ Grumpy Soul - Because it has that ‘Magic’ that I used to feel every weekend. I put that down to the promoters - It feeds through the event (More Mid-tempo would be nice for me) Boomerang - Some seem to have the impression that this event leans heavily towards the modern side, it may have at one time, but my experience of the place is just good soul music and far from a Modern Night. I go here for the music - it suits me down to the ground. The Burnley All-nighter - A real ‘Northern Soul All-nighter’ Probably just the once a year for me, what with my ‘Mid-tempo romantic side’ an’ all that - that’s just about all I can handle! But I do love ‘blowing off the cob webs’ there. Burnley is the All-nighter that picks you up, takes you, and spits you out at the end. You don’t need to ‘Gee’ this event on - it does it itself. (John Mc, I hope there’s still room for me for another trip there again soon) The Wilton - A place I love, and will go to various projects that Boxy may come up with. The Wilton is a precious part of my Soul history. The 100 Club - Haven’t been in a long time and almost forgot to mention it! Such is the ‘Engine of the Soul Scene’. It’s that good we take it for granted (a bit like Butch) I hope to pop in a little more from time to time, even just at Christmas (Also a very important part of my Soul history) Once the above venues have gone, I’ll be gone……In amongst the ‘awfulness’, I hope they can last and keep their special unique identities - That is what the Soul Scene is to me. All the best, Len P.s - Thanks to all those involved in the above venues - I have made some very special memories at your places.
  11. 'Ding Dong!' Poor Ali - Bless her Len
  12. Good on ya 'youngun' All the best, Len
  13. Oh, I getcha - Easily miss-read on this thread (That rhymes!) All the best, Len P.s - I keep running out of 'likes' on this thread.
  14. Didn't the Mods have a better outlook though? I am from a generation up, as you are talking about 1979. My first Soul All-Nighter was in 1985, so I wasn't there to witness what you describe. What was the problem with that particular influx? I would have thought anyone coming into it in that era would have been like me (and many others) 'Wide eyed, and willing to learn' All the best, Len
  15. Good God you're right - Not an once of irony in there anywhere.......Maybe that's ironic in itself .........Must do better......... Len
  16. Hi Spot He does it so well though! Nearly as well as Lorraine Kelly in the mornings......."That's really goooooooood"....... ....Not that I watch such stuff - It's just on in the background as I'm reading my 'John Manship Annual'........honest......... Len
  17. Hello mate, I think you miss-read - There's only one 'g' in my word 'Youngun's', it's just slang for 'Young ones', an affectionate description at that. As Alison rightly pointed out, no one should get personal. I don't like the term 'Baggy Trouser Brigade' (Or 'Handbaggers') I have an opinion (as you have read) but an observational one, not a p*ss taking one. All the best, Len
  18. It's a nice idea - But you should never go back. .....I fear we are now flogging a dead horse. All the best, Len
  19. The young kids wearing 70’s clothes seems bizarre to me - After the 70’s lot, the 80’s lot developed into something different, and that ‘change’ kind of carried on right through the 90’s, until early 2000 (when it all went wrong) Maybe these people only have the ‘where it all went wrong’ decade to be their influence (Shame, but makes sense) It’s just an observation, and they are probably nice people, but if there was a load of young people taking it all forward, I would have loved them to be really sharply dressed, maybe a bit 80’s influenced, but most importantly something of their own, doing it their way - What happened to the Ivy League College Boy look? No offence intended to these younguns, and I welcome them onto the Scene - I just think they are missing out on the ‘magic’ that they could get from doing it their way. Maybe in time, they will. All the best, Len P.s - 'Positive Alison' - I'm watching you........
  20. I was at a 50th Birthday Party last weekend and my sister introduced me to this bloke (He was someone who was going through his ‘Modlife Crisis’)……Because he had a Scooter, she told him I was into ‘Northern Soul’, he said……”Great, put a bit of the ol’ talk down!”……then proceeded to do a ‘twist’ like dance c/w a stupid grin on his face…..I’m that close to completely giving up going out now - This show has bought me even closer; I don’t want to be associated with it anymore. Although I would love to say I don’t care anymore - it kinda saddens me……. All the best, Len
  21. I like elephants? Len
  22. God we're sad - A 'PHEW' from me to! All the best, Len P.s - Tonight's the night! (The One Show!!!)
  23. But which is best? Feminine Ingenuity for me - always has been All the best, Len
  24. Thank you Win Len
