I like reading the 'blurb'. I also used to enjoy Rudzi's of 'Boogaloo Records' (Leicester) N.B - (To all) Ref swearing. Just so aware - Doing so can damage the site / may affect its classification by search engines etc, too much may cause it to be classed as an 'adult site' Google adverts doesn't like it, now and again do get some pages flagged up as possible 'sexual content' and need to put in an appeal. Plus workplace filters may pick it up and put a block on it. Len

It is. So a quick reminder - Please keep out the swearing guys. Maybe putting a '*' in place of some letters if on the rare occasion you feel that strongly, that you feel the need to swear (Best not to really though) Thanks. Len.

Chandlers - Your Love Makes Me Lonely Instrumental
Len replied to Our Kid's topic in All About the SOUL
I think I like it! If I was dancing away at a nighter, and someone whacked this on, I'd think WOW! And would be taken up another level! Not the same listening on a P.C. Len -
Will covid spell the end of the nostalgia scene?

It's like being in a film it really is - I spoke to a lady about it all yesterday, and she very nearly burst in to tears bless her (I don't think the tears were just because I spoke to her) I said to her that it is difficult for everyone, but we're not at war, so we have to stay as positive as possible. Ref this thread (and 'tuther one) Obviously it's a guessing game at this stage, but the longer it goes on, we will see the inevitable result relating. Things will be different for us that's for sure, and we will all appreciatte each other that bit more than we did I recon Len -
I've told this story before - My best bargain is 'Chapter Five - You Can't Mean It' from a car boot sale. The lady said......"It's 50p for the big ones, 20p for the small ones".......(LPs and singles) 'The Embers' - What a result! One of my all time faves that. Len

Not me this week Len

Simon (Ingham) was quick off the blocks ref 'The Bury Virtual All-nighters'. He thought of it whilst walking his dog, and rang to bounce the idea off me. At that time I was still in shock at what had happened all around, and was about to furlough my two staff, so although I said I thought it was a great idea, I really meant I thought it was a great idea to those people that still 'live and breath' the soul scene. But deep down, thinking it wasn't really for me (Simon new that) It took me a couple of weeks to 'get in the zone', but I played for Simon on the show, and doing so turned out to be enjoyable albiet very strange pre-recording a spot - Especially any speaking parts (Believe it or not) Of course it's not ideal when comparing it to live events, but this Bury experience has turned out to be enjoyable for lots of people, enabling us to keep in touch through our music, plus the live chat room and the Soul-source thread when the show gets played of a Sat night have been a great laugh. They did an all request All-dayer where the listeners chose the tunes - Again, I thought Mmmmm, it could work, thinking I would most probably dip in and out throughout the day, but the sounds drew me in, and I listened to the whole show. Being a radio show has enabled more different tunes to be aired than at a live event, and people are more focussed on said tunes because they have no one to talk to (Most now not speaking to their husbands or wives by now) Take these things for what they are - It's all we have, so embrace them, and appreciatte the amount of work some people put in to them (Hours of prep work for each show) All the best, Len

Has Coronavirus sounded the death bells for NS live scen
Len replied to Hooker1951's topic in All About the SOUL
Hi Steve, I doubt any promoter is making money, most don't make any when there's no restrictions on numbers, so at 40% capacity, there is either a loss, or they a have a nice deal with the venue owner (They get the custom) This was bound to get worse (a second time) before it gets better - personally I am more concerned about people's livings over going to a do. Patience is a virtue - We're watching Star Wars (In the correct order) Len -
Jimmy Burns defo / The Brand New Faces last (Never liked that me) Len

Thanks Monny. Paul Panton is a name I am familiar with, and I'm certain I have met him. Although I was born in Harrow (Middlesex), I have spent most of my life in Northamptonshire, so have been to many events in the surrounding areas such as Kettering. You're absolutely right about just getting out there on that dance floor. I suppose the 'uninitiated' expect people to immediately take the p*ss, which of course never happens. Edit - Never 'usually' happens Len

I arrived on the scene through 'the mod route'. I did the '3rd generation' mod thing, which was after the '79 mod lot - A bunch of posers we were too! Lots of mods were in to that R'n'B stuff, Jimmy Mcgriff and what have you, but what always stood out for me were the tunes a great DJ called 'Dom Bassett' used to play - I know now that it was usually Northern, probably stuff he had been influenced to play by 'The 100 Club', being a London lad (In my young eyes, a very cool bloke was Dom) I ventured away from all the scooter rallies, and one night 'Steve Smith' (Kettering) took me to 'The Fleet' at Peterborough, which really was an eye opener for me (In more ways than one!) I soon realised that the mod scene and the northern scene were different things, although some of the music crossed over. In 1985 I went to 'Loughborough Town Hall', which was an anniversary, and I was in awe of everything around me. I remember sitting there wanting to dance, but daredn't. I sat there for so long, and in the end I said to myself....."Jeeeze Len, if you don't dance soon the night will be over!"......So I tentavely went for it, felt really uncomfortable, then looked around, and saw that no one had battered an eye lid at this young fool shaking his leg ('The leg thing' became a 'thing', but that's another story) Just one of my older mates looked over, gave me a quick smile, and carried on dancing. I (like everyone) matured, as in, got to understand how the scene 'ticked', picking up on those unwritten rules of respect / the way to conduct myself, and my appreciation of the music really started to develope - My beginning was very exciting of course, but I would say the 90's was my best time. I'm 50 years old tomorrow, so hopefully I'm not still known by those that do know me as (in John Manship's words) 'The little boy that never went away' Great thread Mick. I love to hear of people's different routes, and as you have asked - Their fav eras. All the best, Len

Hi Mick, Yes, I think it will be the end 'as we know it', but that doesn't have to be a bad thing. As you say, the clock is ticking, and the longer this goes on the more different it will be because (as has been mentioned in ref to football) some people will get used to their different past times at weekends, and won’t be bothered about coming back out to play. Lots of on-line events may well continue after this virus is long gone too, thus giving some people enough of a soul outlet. Not all doom and gloom though - Change can be good Len -
Maybe, but if (again as was stated in the article) this latest sale has had world wide attention, it may well go to 'silly silly' (not just 'silly') money - People literally buying it as an investment. I do like the record (Indeed I do) Len

If (as Lee mentions in the news paper article) he has been offered more than £100,000.00 already by several collectors, it really takes this to another level where the sky's the limit! Maybe it will end up going for prices like some paintings do - It will be enjoyable to watch anyway Good to hear of Lee's success in business Len

Not sure who played Roosevelt Matthews first, but my influence for wanting it was after hearing 'Mick 'n' Mo' play it (@Skegsoul) So, a big thanks to them from me Len

Yes, praying that we will all be out soon mate. I think I'll play the damn thing 3 times at The Bury Virtual All-nighter on 29th August! I'm looking at this purchase as a 50th Birthday pressy to me I've bought high in this instance, I freely admit - But pleased I have it. Len

'Guilty as charged' and suitable embarrassed - I had a limit of around £500.00, went to a cheeky £603.00, but then got carried away towards the end, thinking "Surely it can't go any higher!" and won it (Not really feeling the word 'won' being fitting) That said - I really really rate it, and if needs be I can always sell somat else to compensate. An exhausted Len

It's not actually like me to be so 'to the point' So I have to add that I wouldn't want to offend a working band, who's musicians probably put a lot of work in to what they do - I just don't like the tune (Both of em) Len

Tommy is featured in the actual video Chalky (Not singing) 17 seconds in, then again 1 min 10 seconds in. Len P.s - I don't like either version
